Episode 2: Foster Dad aka Superhero

39m · Published 12 Feb 06:42

Episode 2 is a good one (biased), as I interview the world's best foster dad in the universe - my husband Chris. Chris shares his heart on what has been hard, and what has been great as a foster dad for the last 3.5 years. Tune in for a little behind the scenes look at our mediocre hearts, and terrible senses of humor. This episode should be livelier than my first one, but is just as unfancy - as Chris and I recorded this in our guest room, while sitting on the floor, with the mic perched on a box of brand new baby wipes (yay Costco runs.) I didn't do this for my first episode, but here is the intro to 'The (Good) Word of the Day", a time when I will share a Bible verse that stood out to me this week.

Today's (Good) Word of the Day:

"But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted;     you consider their grief and take it in hand. The victims commit themselves to you;     you are the helper of the fatherless."

- Psalm 10:14

God sees our hurts and our struggles, and we just have to lay them at his feet. Because He has the whole world in His hands. Thanks for tuning in friends! Find me on Social Media if you want to connect in between episodes. Fostering Voices on Instagram Jihae Watson on Facebook

Episode 1: Do Not Operate Heavy Machinery While Listening

32m · Published 30 Jan 21:32

Welcome to Episode 1

This episode is a long time coming. I kept waiting for the right time, the right place, the right mind frame to do this. I wanted my website to be ready, my iTunes settings to be set, and so on and so forth. And alas, I downloaded an app on my phone, and started recording in my guest room, on the floor, holding my 5 month old foster babe in my arms. The whole time. And she did not cry or make a peep! Also, please note that I recorded this at about 9pm, so I have my after-9pm voice. As in, the voice that often lulls my husband to sleep every night. So, you are definitely going to need a cup of caffeine before you start this. And maybe don't operate heavy machinery while listening. But I hope you enjoy it, and I am very very grateful that you are here to join me on this journey of providing a safe place for the many voices in the foster care and adoption communities.

In this episode, I make reference to:

  • Feed my Starving Children, an organization that I LOVE. Apparently they are also located in Illinois and Minnesota, as well as here in Arizona. You can go with your family, with a giant group, and pack dry food that will be shipped to different disaster, and impoverished areas.
  • Foster Arizona is one of my favorite foster organizations, run by the incredible Kim Vehon. I love her. And her mission to educate, encourage, and empower others to positively impact the lives of kids in foster care.
  • PSMAPP stands for 'Partnering for Safety and Permanence - Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting.' I mentioned it on the podcast and said I couldn't remember what it stood for. Turns out I never knew what it stands for. And I will definitely not remember this later.

Thanks for tuning in friends!

Please feel free to share this episode, or leave a comment with any questions or concerns you may have. And if you feel so inclined, please leave me a review on iTunes! Til next week. Peace out.
