Keeping Up With Chaos - From the Booth & Beyond

S 4 | EP 131 -  This is a personal one. The group chats about representation in media and why it is such an important conversation. Many of us who grew up in the distant 80's and 90's  can recall that the TV and Film landscape looked very different. Mostly all the protagonists looked the same and most shows reflected a very limited view of life and culture in America. For those growing up Black or Brown, or as child of immigrants, or as part of the LGBTQ community, or any other marginalized group, they rarely saw themselves represented in the media or more often than not, negatively represented. As adults, we can see the impact lack of representation had in our lives and how detrimental it is for young people. Representation can serve as opportunities for minoritized people to find community support and validation. And while things are slowly changing, we still have a lot more work to do.

Jozlyn, Gaby & Angela chat with hosts of Modern Dadhood podcast - Adam Flaherty & Marc Checket. 

Jozlyn met Adam at Podfest and immediately thought him and his co-host, Marc, would be great guests to have on our podcast.  They started their podcast, Modern Dadhood, a bit before the pandemic. Adam and Marc celebrate dads as they navigate the joys, challenges, and general insanity (CHAOS) that comes along with being a father. They explore the fatherhood experience through authentic, not often had, conversations along with a healthy dose of laughter, sincerity, vulnerability, and 80s/90s nostalgia.  They have spoken with dads from all walks of life, from SNL alum Bobby Moynihan to MSNBC news anchor Craig Melvin and Sesame Street's Emilio Delgado.  Adam Flaherty is a dad of two daughters and a director and editor of video content. Marc Checket is a dad of twin boys and an art director at a marketing agency.

Jozlyn & Gaby chat with voicer Jodi Krangle! Joz and Jodi met and bonded at Podfest 2023. Jodi is a voice over artist, self-taught and self-proclaimed computer nerd, a musician (Filker to be exact), and a podcast host! We take it all the way back to how Jodi got her start in computer sales and software and how that led her to an entirely different creative world. We also talk about how she gained extensive knowledge about SEO and Marketing and how she made the switch to Voice Over in 2007. Since, she has done work in the healthcare, corporate, hospitality, political, and non-profit sectors, among others. And some of her clients include, Dell, Bose, Subway, Bissell, Unisom, HGTV, and more. We go into VO beginnings, audio, accents, branding, and so much more. This was a very interesting conversation that was filled with nuggets of great information and advice for voicers and performers in general.
