Beers and Beers Podcast Episode 114: New Glarus Staghorn

1h 14m · Published 27 Oct 02:22

David has graced the podcast with his presence after what seems like a month vacation following his birthday. He hit his 500th brewery milestone while travelling to Wisconsin. While he was there he picked up a bottle of New Glarus Staghorn and gives it a try this week on the podcast.

Prior to the big road trip Mr. McKinney hit up Lexington, KY for a trio of breweries and a distillery tour.

High notes this week are the release of a couple silly offerings. Arby's is coming out with a bourbon. Will it be any good? Dr. Pepper is coming to shelves with a bourbon flavored soda but sadly, no bourbon at all in it.

Beers and Beards Episode 111: TX Bourbon and Blue Heron Octoberfest

1h 5m · Published 23 Sep 12:31

On this week's episode, we discuss Gary's surgery and announce our next live show. David also drinks some TX Bourbon as well as a special Blue Heron Octoberfest that he got in his box from Rivalry Brews.

David starts off this week drinking TX Bourbon from Firestone & Robinson Distillery in Ft. Worth. The distiller wrote a book called The Terroir of Whiskey, which David read. TX Bourbon is definitely a unique tasting bourbon, and David can't quite put his nose on the exact taste.

In the beer segment, David drinks Blue Heron's Oktoberfest, and talks about his love of Oktoberfest beers in general.

We chat about the crazy growth of non-alcoholic beer, and specifically craft non-alcoholic beer, which grew 102% over the latest 52 weeks ending August 20. Is NA beer becoming a thing?

We also talk about Ohio Pint Day, which is Sept. 27. You can get a special glass from participating breweries all across the state of Ohio.

Beers and Beards Episode 110: Yellowstone and Brink Brewing Company's Jackpot Joey

1h 6m · Published 09 Sep 20:38

After a holiday weekend and some hectic days we are back with another combination of beer and bourbon. Did you know that breweries are all on the bandwagon now that the AFC champion Bengals are back at it. So many beers in their honor and this week David tries Brink's Jackpot Joey. It wasn't even gameday but he opened it up. If you wanna see a bunch more Bengal themed beer click here.

Gary is about to have bariatric surgery so its about 6 weeks of no alcohol and David is putting the weight of the show on his shoulders as he tries a 4-7 year blended bourbon in Yellowstone.

People seem to like MMA stories so each week we are now throwing in some from our past. This week David talks about getting scammed by a fan to get in as media for a big event back in the day.

Beers and Beards Episode 109: Sixth Sense Brewing's Sportsball and Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond

1h 18m · Published 26 Aug 01:32

This is the 109 limited edition podcast. Well that seems to be the thing that's hot right now. This week was a fun back and forth as always with some good spirits as we head into football season and some tailgating hopes.

David went to the lake. He didn't fish but he did go to Sixth Sense Brewing for some Sportsball which was on theme with the conversation tonight. He also brought up Dogfish Head's new beer and cheese pairings which didn't sound too bad at all.

Gary went to the shelf for another pour of Old Fitzgerald Bottled In Bond 8 year old. His days of drinking are numbered so this was a good memory with a good bourbon. It is also probably one of the coolest bottles out there.

Four Roses and Yellowstone are about to drop their limited editions for the fall. It's the season of bourbon as we have already talked about Old Forester's Birthday Bourbon raffle. Four Roses is following that blueprint as well with their 2022 release.

Beers and Beards Episode 107: Puncher's Chance and The Noid by Fibonacci Brewing Company

1h 22m · Published 10 Aug 23:21

Hey, welcome back. We have to get back to the basics so no funny business with seltzers this week although we reserve the right to become a seltzercast.

That time has come again as we announce the Goose Island Bourbon Stouts of the year. This is our third time doing this and the selection returns with a coffee offering, the first since 2017. Some good stuff in this lineup that drops on Black Friday.

A government official in trouble? Yes a Virginia ABC official has been busted for profiting off insider information with the state's rare bourbon allocations. He betrayed the beloved bourbon community for profit. Seems about right.

David in his attempt to avoid real sports completed a Triathalon and didn't finish last. He was close but the main thing is he paid his money and finished with a medal, that he paid for. His efforts earned him a little treat of Fibonacci Brewing Company this week and their The Noid. Job well done David.

Gary had to detox from all the seltzer so it was back to bourbon. He may or may not have caved to peer pressure that Uncle Mike put on him by calling him names. This week the combat sports inspired Puncher's Chance was a surprisingly nice change up from the bubbly frat boy drinks of weeks past.

Beers and Beards Episode 106: New Holland's Bourbon Barrel Seltzer & Topo Chico Variety Pack

1h 12m · Published 01 Aug 20:34

Thanks Uncle Mike for checking on us, we are still kicking. Gary went on vacation while David has been training for some kind of physical challenge so we took a a small break but we are back.

David breaks down his love of boy bands with a review of a Backstreet Boys concert he went to. There may even be some singing at some point so listen for that. While at New Holland Brewing he picked up a Bourbon Barrel seltzer that he tries this week.

Gary went to Florida but couldn't talk David into investing in a small 8 million dollar vacation home. He drinks a Topo Chico variety pack and is not that impressed.

Beers and Beards Episode 105: Bang MIXX Seltzer and Yellow Springs 'Raise the Sails'

1h 15m · Published 11 Jul 12:00

This week we return to some hard seltzer and craft beer. David has a movie review and accomplishes something he rarely does.

Bang Energy drinks are a staple for some but the Bang MIXX hard seltzers come without the caffeine but plenty of taste. Gary samples Frose Rose, Purple Kiddles, Pina Colada and Strawberry Blast.

David made the trek to Yellow Springs, OH where he visited the Yellow Springs Brewing company and brought back some Raise the Sails, a lager worthy of any good summer outing.

Two movies were seen this week as David went solo to catch the new Top Gun Maverick flick and Gary took the family to see the latest Minions movie.
