The Time 4A Pint Podcast

by Time 4A Pint

The global watch industry produces an estimated 1.2 billion units a year. With around, 7.5 billion people on the planet, that means that over a 6 and a half year period, enough are made for every one of us to go out and buy a brand new watch of our own. In reality, that’s not what happens. For starters, just because all these watches are being churned out, doesn't mean that anyone is actually buying them. Lots of people can’t understand why you would spend money on a wrist watch. After all, with just a couple of taps, your mobile phone can tell you what the time is anywhere in the world - and you can catch Pokemon on it. You can’t do that with a watch. On the other hand, for some people, one watch isn’t enough. There are those among us that hunt out, capture, collect, catalogue, and show off their watches to others who share the same passion. On internet forums, Instagram, and even at in person meetups. For those who collect, watches are kind of like Pokemon, they’ve got to catch them all. And that’s what this show is all about. Watch collectors. Not Pokemon.

26: Stupid. But Incredibly Lucky.

55m · Published 20 Oct 00:00
Welcome to Episode 26 of the Time 4A Pint Podcast - this week I sat down with Jason to talk about his watch collecting journey, the lessons he's learned along the way, the ones he hasn't, and to remind him that watches are not investments.  When I'm writing notes before and interview, I try to build a theme around the collector in question's watches. It could be that all the watches are from a brand,  that they came from various trips, or milestones, or just that they're things their owner was drawn to. This week, things seemed to split into 4 distinct groups: Stupid but... lucky? Seamasters for Fathers Down the Internet Rabbit Hole Future Classics I'm sure we've all bought and owned watches from the first and third categories, and hope we're currently holding them from the fourth! Watches on this week's show: Girard Perregaux Seahawk 7100 Omega Seamaster Day-Date Quartz Omega Seamaster Automatic Crosshair Omega Seamaster 30 Omega Seamaster Automatic Chronometer (Ref. 24: Enabled Through Instagram

37m · Published 06 Oct 00:00
Welcome to Episode 24 of the Time 4A Pint Podcast - this week we dragged ourselves off the sofa, got dosed up on cold and flu remedies, and headed out to meet Nathan, who like us was valiantly fighting a serious case of man-flu. And, very much like us, spends hours looking at shiny time keeping devices on Instagram. After discovering the shear volume of watch pictures being shared by collectors, dealers, and enablers alike, Nathan's collecting turned from fashion brands, to an eclectic, but well appointed selection of timepieces old, and new, that appeal to him. Great Stuff. Watches on the week's show: Rolex Submariner 14060M Rado Captain Cook LE Ref. 01.763.0500.3.130 Jacques Monnat Chronograph (Valjoux 7736) Breitling Sprint Chronograph Ref. 2010 aka.
