S2 Ep7: A Stone Roses history lesson from biographer John Robb (Series 2, Episode 7)

1h 28m · Published 05 Nov 12:00
This month marks the 30th anniversary of The Stone Roses' seminal track Fools Gold. With this in mind, we got band biographer and music journalist John Robb on the line to give us the inside story on the creation of the song, along with tales from the legendary Manchester band's formative years in the early '80s.

Rick and John also reminisce about both having front row seats for the Roses' 2011 reunion press conference and subsequent world tour and discuss guitarist John Squire's recent comments confirming the band had split again. Will the Roses ever return?

Elsewhere in the episode, Sarah explains what happened when Jeff Goldblum appeared in one of her dreams and Rick runs the rule over Tame Impala's long awaited comeback track 'It Might Be Time'.

Do get in touch if you know what the hell Jeff Goldblum is doing at the start of this trailer by the way: https://bit.ly/2r9Na9M

S2 Ep6: Interview with The Twang's Phil Etheridge (Series 2, Episode 6)

1h 29m · Published 28 Oct 12:30
In this episode Sarah sits down for an interview with The Twang frontman Phil Etheridge as the Birmingham band prepare to release their new album 'If Confronted Just Go Mad'. Given the Brummie baggy rockers have racked up 15 years in the music scene, there's plenty of ground to go over and Phil pulls no punches.

Heralded as the best new band in Britain by the NME when they emerged in 2007, The Twang hit the upper echelons of the albums chart with their debut album and sold out huge tours. But almost as quickly as they hit the heights they came crashing down when they were dropped by their label after releasing a second album and were written off by the music press. Phil talks us through it all - the interband splits, why they're still releasing music 12 years on and how a gammon steak played a part in them getting dropped by their label. It's all well worth a listen.

S1 Ep10: Johnny Marr Interview (Series 1, Ep 10)

53m · Published 04 Dec 06:00
This week we're hitting rewind on the career of one of our all-time musical heroes, Johnny Marr. Rick has unearthed a previously unheard archive interview with the legendary Smiths guitarist, recorded in 2011 as he recorded his classic album The Messenger. Originally intended to be a comeback record with Johnny's band The Healers, The Messenger ended up being Johnny's first solo album proper and was a brilliant statement of intent which firmly put him back on the map. The interview also sees Johnny talk about whether The Smiths will ever reform and his hatred of "lame acoustic music".
