In this Inbetweason episode we are joined by Bruce Bauman. We're on the scene of his annual event "The Community Share Fest", we dive into how the event got started as a birthday party with the intent to give more than receive and how it grew into the large event it is today with that same purpose in mind. We also discuss his growth and journey as an activist, even though he would not like to label himself as such. As well as touching on some interesting facts about himself like, suing the federal reserve, suing the Denver PD and why he felt it was important to see those cases through.

Russo Binks is a Denver based poet turned rapper. He has been busy working to take his career in Hip Hop to the next level. At 30 years-old he feels slightly behind the curve but he won't let that or any other obstacle stop him. It took him a while to discover the passion but he's there. After years of alcohol and drug abuse hindering his creativity and work ethic, he has now got his head on straight and is prepared for the road ahead. He started writing and rapping as a way to cope with life, his addiction and the loss of his brother. He vows to never lose that raw authenticity. No matter what the pressure to not be yourself in this industry may feel like, he knows there is a way to make it and still be who you want to be. Even when they tell you you can't. Russo Binks says, "Fuck a 'no'. Let's Get Bizzy".

MO SPKX is an OG of the underground rap scene in Denver. He has made a path for himself and for the people after him to find success in an industry that can kill dreams if not careful or persistent enough.

Babah Fly stops by for a discussion on what it means to come back to one's true self. Growing up in Little Rock, he found himself in a diverse culture of Southern white folk, punk kids and - in his words - the "knuckle heads" of the streets. Surrounded by this, he found himself involved with selling drugs and robbing, as well as being a conscience artist unaccepted by most of the population for his Hip Hop roots. Needless to say he has had a long powerful journey of self-discovery. One that has continued into his adult life. Something that comes along with being a creative as a calling and a career as well as experiencing life events such as divorce.
Now His goal is to help guide as many people into and through their own journey of self-discovery, healing and the art of choosing love. He does this through his Music which he has been known to describe as Verbal Reiki.

Poets/musicians/cypher curators Ahmad JP and 2B noquestion join the podcast this episode. The two guests this week were the hosts and creators of the cypher that many of Denver's most talented rappers have a personal connection to: The PHACT.
PHACT was a cypher where the main goal was to curate community between anyone and everyone that stepped foot into the basement of the Gypsy House Cafe while The PHACT was there. In many ways The PHACT was to the city what this Podcast is. A way to create a musical connection from within.
Addressing the theme of creating within, Ahmad talks to us about his journey with creating his own self liberation from within through the song we shares with us this episode: Dancing With The Enemy. He know helps others create their own healing from within through leading Reiki and meditation sessions with his own Medicine Music.

This boy is truly triflin. Through a little self-incrimination we get into how he managed to get into college and graduate college when he probably shouldn't have been able to.
We talk some about gentrification, what it's like to see it happen in an area you don't relate to and then see it happen in your own home. What it means to the cities it happens to and the native residents of those communities. How to approach it at as the gentrifying citizen and how we as the gentrified can approach it as well.

I don't like to promote the idea that you HAVE to sacrifice rest and self care for a successful life. Mainly because my goal is to create a path to success, through my own journey, where that is not the case. However, passion does come with hard work...uncomfortable work. Which often times looks like late nights. Late nights, usually followed by early mornings due to a 9-5.
Jelie, our guest for this episode, relates to that. She lives that. Jelie is a young and driven artist. She watched her father make music and was able to start creating on her own at a very young age because of that. She takes us through her 22 year journey. Which involves graduating with a degree in Audio Production from The University of Colorado at Denver. A degree she says has not much to do with her success now. She has created her own online community/business where she gets paid through sponsors to teach how to produce music in Reason (branching out to Ableton as well). Also accompanied by a growing and appreciated Emcee career here in Denver. And although being a young, black, lesbian woman in the music industry definitely comes with a lack of deserved respect, she does not allow that to slow her down.

Off the jump, Acuna starts teaching me. Acuna has been around the underground scene for about 20 years. Even so he admits that he is continuing to learn and grow himself. He has been able to generate a stable and successful career and lifestyle off of his music. He is now looking into helping Denver come together as a city to be able to generate successful and stable careers for Its underground scene entirely. Like me, he notices most artist in Denver wanting success for themselves. He breaks down how places like Houston and Atlanta have been able to create individual pockets for their city where many of their rappers can generate wealth without ever having to leave their city. We hope to do the same for Denver. Let's Get Bizzy

We had a great conversation about what being a musician means for us in regards of what kind of impact we can make on the people who hear us. We talk about cultural appropriation and that it is alive and well in Denver's hip hop scene. We talk homophobia in the rap community and in the Black community. The list of topics is heavy.
