In this inspiring interview Karina Murray talks to Susan Smith Carey about her journey of autism with her three sons which has resulted in a book about her journey.  “From a Moth to a Butterfly”: A Journey of Autism,” is an honest memoir based on Susan’s experiences and events that occurred throughout her sons’ lives. The book tells how a mother creates the very best life possible for her three sons. Susan wrote it in the hope of helping other families. Since this programme was made, Susan has written a sequel –  “An Autism Journey to Acceptance” €5 will be donated to Irish Autism Action for each copy of her books sold.

Niamh Kelly, B.A., H.Dip., M.B.S. and BSc. is a qualified person-centred, humanistic and integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist that has spent over fifteen years in human relations. She has experience of working with a wide range of life issues such as stress, anxiety, grief and loss, managing change, personal development, health issues, realising potential, low self-esteem, identity issues, spirituality, relationships, workplace issues and communication etc. She is interested and trained in a progressive therapeutic approach known as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) that helps clients to become ‘unstuck’ by pursuing what it is that matters most to them in life by supporting them to achieve their goals with the help of mindfulness and acceptance based strategies. As a result of her background, Niamh is also interested in and has a unique skill set for brief therapy (circa 6 sessions) which can be ideal for clients wanting to work on a specific issue that is appropriate to this kind of therapy. Niamh is also a long-term student of Mindfulness Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh with the dharma name ‘Awakened Openness of the Heart’, has studied with Ekhart Tolle, and is a qualified trainer who offers a 6 week one-to-one mindfulness skills course which is tailored to clients personally as they are held within a psychotherapeutic space. She maintains a best practise and progressive skill set by continuously upskilling and training internationally with world leaders in their respective fields of wellbeing.
