Joshua Lucas

In less than 21 years, Joshua Lucas has blazed his own trail of a career in the music and entertainment scene in Toronto. Known as the “future”, Lucas has taken a role as a cultural preserver of authentic Jamaican music and culture through deejaying, live music, event promotion and music production. Driven by the record collection of his family, by the age of 3, music became Joshua’s favourite thing to do and see and by the age of 9, Joshua had begun deejaying and playing drums and piano. In the years following, Joshua continued to refine his skills and also created his own design, A/V and event production company Avalanche Productions in 2012.

His music selection, versatility, mixing and knowledge began getting attention from hearts around Toronto including industry heavy hitters such as Jones and Jones Productions, which led to his premiere on JAMBANA One World Festival at the tender age of 15. He has shared stages with many international artists and deejays including Shabba Ranks, Yellowman, and Marcia Griffiths to name a few. Lucas’ career has not been limited to just the Reggae community as he has spread his talents to the soca scene through Jamaal Magloire’s Toronto Revellers Mas Band, corporate events for companies such Bell Canada, Revera Living and CIBC, weddings and private events, and several school events for a variety of school boards. Today, Joshua continues to preserve and promote Reggae culture through his own event “Skankin’ Sweet: The Spirit of Reggae Music”, as well as a soca and throwback party “Carnival Inception” and “416 & Park”. Throughout the COVID19 pandemic, Joshua has expanded his endeavours to livestreaming through the Twitch platform and soundclash culture through the newly organized National Soundclash League.

16. Rachael-Lea - Real Talk

Guest: Rachael-Lea

Theme: Real Talk

Host(s): Kurt Henry & Asha Lapps

Rachael-Lea

I'm an Artsy Farsty Toronto Girl, who has a creative brain that never shuts off. Like EVER! Why Real Talk Candles? I suppose it was one of those things that you stumble across.

About a year ago, I was decked in the face by a complete stranger. Just standing there waiting for an Uber. "Why the hell me!" I thought. And like most women, we just figure, "ah, it's no big deal. I'll get over it!" Well, it wasn't that easy. Getting more and more afraid to walk freely in public, I took to my candle making as a way to avoid the building anxiety. It was the one thing, I knew, would bring me peace.

I'm also a writer, a playwright, and I hosted a Facebook show called "Real Talk with Rachael-Lea" for two years. Well known by my followers as being "unfiltered", I took my love of Real Talk and controversial conversation and slapped them on my candles. And so "Real Talk Candles" was born.

The goal of Real Talk Candles is more than just a scented candle. It's a statement. It's the kind of candle that causes conversations. Some funny, and some heartwarming. But always REAL.

Each one of these candles is hand-poured with love, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

I truly hope you enjoy these candles as much as I loved making them. May they shine light on your day, and give you a little laughter in your life.

Love and Light,

Rachael-Lea
