MMH 22 Blame the Victim!

If you're a victim of illness or violence or deceit, should we blame you?

Many stories are on all types of media question whether victims of sexual harassment, rape, bullying, poverty and more are at least partially to blame for their circumstances. How often do oral health professionals do the same, blame the victim for new or continuing conditions?

MMH 21 Are you overpaid?

Dental hygienists are overpaid if they do the bare minimum.

One of the big mysteries of dental hygiene practice is how some hygienists are highly paid and some are not. Even people from the same class with the same grades have a per-hour discrepancy that defies logic. We bet there isn’t a dental hygienist reading this post who thinks they’re over paid. So, really, what does being over paid mean?

MMH 20 Ignore that biofilm and calculus

Continued learning and a growing knowledge of all causal triggers (risk factors) is crucial to changing the course of chronic inflammatory periodontal disease through targeted care.  While most CE courses continue to focus on the elimination of bacteria as the clinical goal, these narrowly focused methods and philosophies fall short in the successful prevention and treatment of periodontal diseases long term.  We can do better.

MMH 19 - 3 ways to participate in the dental practice

Most business today, including dental practices, are run using a factory assembly-line model. Active participation makes so much more sense. This means, as a hygienist there at least 3 (and probably many more) way to be active, productive and financially well compensated while making meaningful contributions to patient and more importantly your own health.
