Moviegoing at the time of Corona

It's a special 3WCC x Pervision crossover! John Tawasil, the co-host of the Filipino film podcast, Third World Cinema Club, joins Armand and Tristan to chat about what moviegoing might look like in what appears to be the tail-end of COVID-19.

About our Guests

John Tawasil is from the film podcast, Third World Cinema Club, a show he-costs with our friends at Film Police Reviews. He also runs the film blog, Present Confusion. Tristan Zinampan is Rappler's resident film geek. He heads the brand integration, of which — fun fact! — I'm also a part. Translation: he's my boss.

About today's show

Per the IATF, Filipino moviegoers are finally allowed to watch movies in theaters again. That, however, is only true for you provided that you follow safety guidelines and have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

All three of us have reservations, especially with how the theater owners will implement and enforce the new safety guidelines.

OTJ: The Missing 8, Midnight Mass (ft. Tristan & Jason)

This week, we're taking on Erik Matti's On The Job: The Missing 8 and Mike Flanagan's Midnight Mass.

Erik Matti's long-gestating On The Job: The Missing 8 wrapped its first season at HBO GO today; and Netflix has dropped one of its best shows of this year, Mike Flanagan's Midnight Mass. Armand sits down with Tristran Zinampan and Jason Tan Liwag to discuss!

About today's guests

Jason Tan Liwag is an openly gay scientist, actor, and writer. He is one of six emerging international film critics part of the Young Film Critics Programme of the 50th IFFR (International Film Festival Rotterdam).

This week's films

On The Job: The Missing 8 is the follow-up to Erik Matti's 2013 modern classic, On The Job. Inspired by true events, the film chronicles the story of Sisoy Salas, a corrupt journalist seeking justice for his colleagues, and convict Roman Rubio, a hired gun who is regularly brought out of prison to perform assassinations.

Midnight Mass is the latest from Netflix's resident Stephen King fanboy, Mike Flanagan. In it, an isolated island community experiences miraculous events - and frightening omens - after the arrival of a charismatic, mysterious young priest.
