Episode 10: Jen's Story for Mental Health Awareness Month

In this episode, Jen tells her story about her own mental health experiences, particularly around her dad's arrest and incarceration for producing, possessing, and distributing child sex abuse material.

It's been a journey. Thanks to all who listen to this one.

Episode 9: Helpful Advice for Managing Depression from Some of My Friends

In this week's episode, Jen shares her experiences with depression--and those of some of her friends--in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month. This week, I'm talking about some of the causes of depression and, most importantly, some tangible tips to help protect yourself from the risk of developing depression or how to move through it if that's where you find yourself right now. Some of my favorite parts of this podcast are focusing on relationships and things that bring us joy. I love creating a community around growth, even and especially when it feels difficult. To be a highly sensitive person, a person who has dealt with depression or anxiety or both, or someone who wants to grow but isn't sure how to make it happen -- these are all really emotional experiences. That's why I love sharing the hearts & stories of other people who get it, who have been there and can offer tangible advice for leaning into your authenticity, trusting what you want, and taking care of yourself. Even though today's episode is formally about depression, we could also say that it's about taking care of yourself & loving yourself. Every wise piece of advice that Melissa, Kelly, Tori, and Madalyn shared remind us to love ourselves, take care of ourselves, and do whatever it takes to find that peace & joy again. That could look like more time outside, making the bed, calling a friend to hang out, going to a fun class, reading a book instead of scrolling on Instagram, or calling a therapist if you need extra support. I hope you feel loved. I, for one, am so glad you're here. You may have a tremendous capacity for sorrow and probably sometimes feel some incredible pain. But you also have the same capacity for joy and love -- and the world needs more of those things. I hope you'll reach out to me and share if any tips helped you in this episode--or if there is any way I can support you. Episode 7: How to feel like you belong after an entire lifetime of feeling like you don't fit in (or at least how Jen's learning to do it)

In this episode, Jen talks about her journey toward believing that she belongs in the places she wants to be in her life after an entire lifetime of... well, not.

"I just want to fit in. I want to feel like I belong, so I need to hide who I am to do that."

During an EFT tapping exercise this past week, these words rocked Jen to the core when she realized how much they had been guiding her life & beliefs.

Jen (like many people) has believed that she wouldn't feel like she fit in if she showed up fully as herself.

But, the truth is that hiding actually makes it harder to feel like we belong because we're keeping everyone at arm's length--maybe even ourselves sometimes.

This podcast episode is for you if you can relate to a core fear or belief of not belonging. As Jen shares her story, hopefully, you will be inspired to think of:

  • Where you've felt like you don't belong
  • When you've felt like you did belong
  • Where you want to belong
  • How to give yourself permission to belong with YOU & be your truest self

Many of life's circumstances can make you feel like an outsider or that you don't belong. But, the most important thing is that you're staying true to yourself.

Can you feel like you belong anywhere else if you don't belong with or to yourself first? In Braving the Wilderness, Brene Brown talks about Maya Angelou's quote: "You are only free when you realize you belong no place—you belong every place—no place at all. The price is high. The reward is great."

Staying true to yourself will be scary sometimes, and sometimes it requires sacrifice, or you experience loss. However, the reward of peace, joy, and fulfillment when you listen to your inner voice and choose not to be moved--well, that's everything. That's worth it all.

Will you dare to show up and be seen, to choose to belong when you're with yourself, so whatever room you walk into, you can have the confidence that you belong there?

If you plan to, let us know how! And share this episode with the first friend you think of when listening. Thanks for helping spread the word! :)

Episode 6: Joyologist & Potential Doula Megs Malloy on Self-Trust, Worthiness, and Finding Joy

In this episode, my favorite Joyologist & Potential Doula, Meghan Calhoun, aka Megs Malloy, talks about her infamous Power Up, a 10-minute exercise of breathing, gratitude, and celebration that is designed to help busy working moms (and basically anyone willing to try it!) reset their nervous systems. With her special gift of bringing joy to others (and helping them learn to bring it to themselves), Megs shares lots of creative inspiration to bring laughter and send heart-shaped vibes into the world. In this episode, she also shares her incredible wisdom around trusting yourself, listening to your intuition, and realizing your inherent worthiness. There are so many nuggets here for listeners who feel like they are on the mommy hamster wheel or want to connect more deeply with themselves. Megs has a super fun podcast called "Don't Just Manifest - Megafest!" and it's available anywhere you listen to podcasts. She also has a nutrition mentoring program called Nutrition as Self Care. And soon, she will be releasing her new course called Slow Down Time for moms who feel like their kids are growing up too fast! (I would have loved that about 10 years ago - I'm so glad she's making it!) The links to all the ways to connect with Megs are below. We hope you enjoy today's show! Bio In 2019, Meghan Calhoun, aka Megs Malloy, was on the brink of working mom burnout. A demanding cemetery sales quota, two toddlers, a drive for perfection, and an inability to ask for help were making her feel like she was one bad day away from a mental breakdown. This stress forced Meghan to find a fast and effective way to cope (because ain't nobody got time for that). That's when she created the Power Up, a 10-minute daily practice of breathing, gratitude, and celebration, to cope with all the drama...from tearful daycare drop-offs to counseling families going through incredible grief and despair.    The cemetery job gave Meghan an ever-present reminder that life is short, and it fueled Meghan’s career change in 2022 to a Mindset Mentor and Joyologist. Nowadays, Meghan's mission is to help other working moms thrive in the mommy hamster wheel. She teaches women how to calm their nervous system, create awareness and intention, practice boundaries, and cultivate a Shero mindset. Her contagious energy and love of wigs and whoopee cushions inspire moms to notice the little magics in life, be present for moments with their children and remember the importance of always enjoying themselves.
