EPISODE 15

1h 2m · We Go Boldly Podcast · 17 May 04:00

“Because true belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance.” – Dr. Brené Brown

How do we put ourselves forward when something is holding us back? Do you struggle remembering that you have been successful? Do you let the self-doubt get loud? Hello imposter syndrome!

What about the cultural conditioning and discrimination that holds us back?

When we’re unaware of it, cultural conditioning can act as a formidable force against our ability to evolve. The beliefs and behaviors we’ve accepted as the norm give us a sense of comfort and control. So when changes occur in the world or among the influences in our life, they can challenge our cultural beliefs and make us uneasy to the point where we must make a decision.

In order to push forward despite these many things holding us back we need to be vulnerable. Vulnerability is needed to be courageous, but it doesn’t mean that if you’re courageous, you don’t experience fear. At We Go Boldly we don’t push through our fear, but we do let ourselves experience it, and move on.

This week we talk about how to strengthen our ability to be vulnerable, take risks, overcome imposter syndrome and put ourselves forward! This is a doozy of an episode. Join us!

EPISODE 163: How to find a therapist

When searching for a therapist, it’s essential to consider your specific requirements, such as expertise in women's health. Start by identifying what type of therapy might be most beneficial for you. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-based therapy are among the many approaches available. Utilize online directories and databases such as Psychology Today or TherapyTribe to filter therapists based on your preferences, including their specialization in women's health issues.

Another critical step in finding a therapist is to seek recommendations from trusted sources. Friends, family members, or healthcare providers can offer valuable referrals. Additionally, many communities have local mental health organizations or women's health clinics that provide resources and referrals. When you contact potential therapists, inquire about their experience with issues related to women's health (if appropriate), such as postpartum depression, menopause, or trauma recovery. This way the therapist has the relevant expertise to understand and address your unique concerns effectively.

Lastly, it is important to consider logistical factors when selecting a therapist. Check their availability, location, and whether they offer virtual sessions, which can be particularly convenient for busy women balancing multiple responsibilities. Verify if they accept your insurance or if they have a sliding scale fee structure to accommodate different financial situations. Remember, finding the right therapist might take time, but prioritizing your mental health and well-being is worth the effort. By following these steps, you can find a qualified therapist who specializes in women's health and supports you on your journey to improved mental wellness.

EPISODE 161: How to be creative

Let's redefine creativity beyond the traditional boundaries of art and craft. On this episode of We Go Boldly we push ourselves to figure out how we can be creative and figure out what that really means.

Creativity is the essence of problem-solving and innovation that permeates every facet of our lives. It's not just about painting or playing music; it's about approaching challenges with fresh perspectives and thinking outside the box. To cultivate a creative mindset, it's crucial to embrace a growth mindset. This means believing in your ability to learn and grow, rather than being limited by fixed ideas of talent. Creativity is a skill that can be honed through practice and perseverance. Remember, it's not about innate talent but about dedication and hard work.

How does creativity fit into your life?

Creativity thrives in moments of stillness and openness. Finding inspiration is key to nurturing creativity. Whether it's through daily journaling, observing the world around you, or changing your perspective, there are endless sources of creativity waiting to be explored. Embrace boredom, travel to new places, and appreciate mistakes as opportunities for growth. Overcoming creative blocks requires identifying and addressing common barriers such as fear of failure, perfectionism, and self-censorship. By practicing mindfulness and reframing negative thoughts, you can break free from limiting beliefs and unleash your full creative potential.

Celebrate every step of your creative journey, no matter how small. Reflect on your progress, express gratitude for your growth, and continue to push the boundaries of your creativity. Embrace the challenges, embrace the vulnerabilities, and embrace the joy that comes from expressing your authentic self through creativity. Join us this week as we brainstorm how we can all find our creativity together!
