157: Is Wellness Culture Making Us Sick

47m · Fit, Fun, and Frazzled · 17 May 06:22

Is wellness culture making us sick and creating a new disordered, rigid, strict way of eating? ** Trigger Warning for this episode! Disordered eating and orthorexia are talked about. Orthorexia is a moral or righteous fixation on consuming “pure” and “clean” foods. Everywhere now a days and especially online with celebrities and social media influencers seem to be talking about a detox or cleanse they are doing. But what actually are they detoxing from and why do they actually need to do a cleanse? This episode sheds light on a new way to look how "clean" eating and living "toxin free" can actually be hurting some people. There is a rise in disordered eating among females aged 35+ and women well into their 40's, 50's, and 60's that never had any issues before. Also in this episode Nikki talks about her own personal experience with following the Medical Medium protocols and jumping on the celery juice bandwagon. Nikki encourages everyone to listen to their own bodies and remember everyone is different. Disclaimer: Nikki is not a doctor, dietician, or counselor. Bonus: Last full moon of 2023 meditation + journal prompts

The last full moon of 2023 is on Tuesday, December 26th. Meditating during the last full moon of 2023 can be a beautiful and serene experience. Find a quiet, comfortable place to sit or lie down. Close your eyes, take deep breaths, and focus on the moon's energy. Imagine the moonlight surrounding you, filling you with calm and tranquility. You can set intentions or reflect on the year that's passed. Allow the moon's energy to guide your meditation and bring a sense of closure and renewal. Certainly, here are some journal prompts to accompany your Last full moon of 2023 meditation: 1. Reflect on the past year. What were the most significant moments, experiences, or challenges you faced in 2023? 2. Describe the feelings and emotions that arise when you think about the year coming to a close. What are you grateful for, and what would you like to leave behind? 3. Set your intentions for the new year. What are your goals, hopes, and dreams for 2024? Write them down as clearly as possible. 4. Consider the symbolism of the full moon. How can you harness its energy to support your intentions and growth in the year ahead? 5. What lessons have you learned in 2023? How have these experiences shaped you and your outlook on life? 6. Write about the people who have been significant in your life this year. How have they influenced your journey, and how would you like your relationships to evolve in the future? 7. Explore the idea of closure. Is there anything you need to let go of or forgive to start the new year with a fresh perspective? 8. Think about self-care and well-being. How can you prioritize your mental, emotional, and physical health in the upcoming year? 9. Describe the imagery and emotions you experienced during your full moon meditation. How did it make you feel, and what insights did you gain? 10. Conclude by writing a letter to your future self, reflecting on your intentions, hopes, and what you aspire to achieve by the next full moon in 2024. These journal prompts can help you further explore your thoughts and emotions during the last full moon of 2023, providing valuable insights and direction for the year ahead. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fitfunandfrazzled/support
