48m · Rise & Climb · 24 Jan 08:48

I didn't really grow up thinking some day I want to be a homeschooling but, yet here we are! This podcast with Michael covers the why and what we do with homeschooling.

WARNING: I hit record and didn't realize that even though we were using our new microphones, my computer as defaulted to use the computer microphone, SO THE AUDIO IS NOT GOOD. However I decided to air it anyways and caution you to listen at your own risk. Don't worry, going forward IT SHOULD never be this bad again!

Some of the materials mentioned that we use and love:

  • Explode The Code
  • Handwriting Without Tears
  • Learn How To Read In 100 Easy Lessons
  • Reading Eggs

Journaling To Find Your Voice - Interview with Callie Huft, Founder of Thirty Days Journals

Ok, I'm biased, I am completely a journaler (I think that's a made up adjective) so when my friend Callie decided to venture out and create her own journaling business I knew I had to have her on.

Not only do we cover journaling and what we appreciate about it, we also follow along as Callie shares HOW she went from the world of Occupational Therapy to founding this company!

We both reminisce on how we overcame our disordered eating and how journaling has helped us overcome some of our deepest inner conflicts!

Rise & Climb: Love, Life, & Libido - A not so, but kinda so 'tell all' on our thoughts around the sexy topic!

How come it is that once we're married it seems like the topic of sex is abandoned? There are so many lies surrounding sex and marriage that Michael and I didn't really blink at the idea of covering it on the Rise & Climb Podcast. While I'm surprised he says some of the things he did, I think this was the funnest interview I've ever had with my man! I hope you enjoy!

Eleazar Michael's Birth Story: Rise & Climb A Home Birth Story

Our 5th pregnancy, 4th full-term baby kept us on our toes. With contractions starting around 24 weeks I NEVER imagined I'd be overdue, let alone go '8 days overdue'.

Michael and I share the story of how his name came to be, what we learned in our time leading up to the birth and dealing with fears, the last month of anticipation, and then the actual birth!

As promised, here is the birth video I made:

From Teacher To Homeschool Advocate Part 2: A Rise & Climb Journey Of Turning A Question Into A Quest Of Purpose

We are back for part 2. We pick up on learning a little more about Tina's journey of discovering their homeschool style as she also explains the different types of styles to us. Then we go into the book Tina wrote;8 Great Smarts for Homeschoolers! And finish up with Tina explaining more about her website and tools found on: https://www.homeschoolroadmap.org/

I apologize for the audio changes as I am working on some new strategies to obtain a more fluid sound. Thank you for your patience!

TINA HOLLENBECK BIO:
Tina and her husband Jeff educated their Irish-Twin daughters from home for the girls' whole lives, graduating them together in Spring 2020. Tina began actively advocating for homeschooling parents in March 2013, with the creation of her free curriculum database, The Homeschool Resource Roadmap. From that foundation, she subsequently created other resources, including a homeschool-parent resource center for home educators in her local area and an online discussion group that connects Christian homeschoolers across the country. She's also written a book,8 Great Smarts for Homeschoolers, published by Moody Publishers in August 2021. When not thinking or talking about homeschooling, Tina cheerleads for her husband, daughters, and son-in-law; laughs at her cats' antics; cherishes the opportunity to serve on her church's worship team; and dotes on her first grandchild, born in December 2022.

Resources:

  • Tina's website: https://www.homeschoolroadmap.org/
