In conversation with Nic Newman about the Reuters Institute's Digital News Report 2020

In conversation with Nic Newman, the Lead Author of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism's 2020 Digital News Report.

Nic and I chat about this years research and how COVID is accelerating the global media industry's move to 'a more digital, more mobile, and more platform-dominated environment.'

There will be casualties, especially at a local level, but also opportunities. As the report points out, COVID is accelerating the pace of change in the media landscape.

Instagram, TikTok and other short-form video and audio platforms will continue to become sources for news for many people, especially younger audiences.

Additionally, media organisations in different parts of the world will change their strategies to reflect their own audiences presence and usage on digital, social and messaging platforms.

The Reuters Institute's Digital News Report 2020 is a report worth reading. Subscribe to this podcast and here what Nic has to say about the changes in our media landscape.
