ArTEEtude: Unveiling the Spectrum of Art, Culture and Mind. West Cork´s Art and Culture Podcast by Detlef Schlich.
by Detlef Schlich
Join Detlef Schlich, a visionary visual artist and ritual designer, as he navigates the complex intersections of art, science, and human consciousness. Based in West Cork and celebrated for his essays on shamanism, art, and digital culture, Detlef uses his expertise in performance, photography, painting, sound, installations, and film to explore creative processes with a diverse array of guests.
ArTEEtude now expands its exploration to include art history and the scientific disciplines that touch upon art, such as psychology and neuroscience, bringing a deeper understanding of how art impacts and reflects our cognitive functions. Episodes also delve into a wider range of musical expressions, connecting melodies to the creative spirit.
Each week, we not only promote and explore groundbreaking works but also engage directly with our listeners through Q&A sessions, where curiosity leads the dialogue. We dissect philosophical quirks, celebrate the minute yet significant details of the artistic endeavor, and connect deeply with the rhythms that drive creativity.
In an era dominated by brief digital interactions, ArTEEtude offers an intimate portal to the vast ocean of the creative mind, inviting listeners to a journey where art meets science, and questions find answers. Join us as we uncover the layers of creativity and thought that define and sustain the artistic community.

18.3 Author and musician Bernd Franco Hoffmann and Detlef Schlich in an ArTEEtude talk about Hoffmann's experience as co-founder of a pre techno electro-industrial band way back in the 80s and more.
30m · PublishedYouTube Podcast ArTEEtude
ArTEEtude is West Cork´s first art, fashion and design podcast created and produced by Detlef Schlich. He will dive and discover with us and the German author and musician Bernd Franco Hoffmann into the unknown and exciting deep ocean of the creative mind. In this podcast, Hoffmann and Schlich talk about Hoffmann´s inspiration for his very recent book Sex, Drugs and Symphonies which is supposed to be published in February 2021, from bands like Mötley Crüe, about his time as a music journalist and his embarrassing encounter with Carl Palmer (former Emerson, Lake and Palmer), his experience as co-founder of a pre techno electro-industrial band way back in the 80s and more.
Schlich is Visual Artist, Film Maker and Ritual Designer, living and loving in West Cork and best known for his Essay about the Cause and Effect of Shamanism, Art and Digital Culture and the video installation Transodin´s Tragedy. He is mainly working in the field of performance, photography, painting, sound, installations, and film. To research our human condition and create artwork from this reflection he is using often the methodology of the digital-shaman as alter ego.
Hoffmann´s previously unpublished book “Sex, Drugs & Symphonies or The Incredible Story of Adrian, Riggbert & Theyler”, with its mixture of rock history, comedy and thriller, is a unique musical biography that has never existed before. On their odyssey through thirty years of real music and contemporary history, the three musicians meet historical personalities such as Romy Schneider, Elena Ceaușescu and Charlie Chaplin.
In 1983 Hoffmann (synth, tapes) founded with Guido Kopp (synth, tapes) the electronic industrial band SEKTOR, based in Cologne. Back then the audience in the pre-techno era said: "You can't let the synthesizer run for 20 minutes and nobody sings". After several concepts and band member changes, concerts all over Germany followed, including at Documenta 8 in Kassel, before the band broke up in 1991.

43m · PublishedArTEEtude is West Cork´s first art, fashion and design podcast created and produced by Detlef Schlich. He will dive and discover with us and the german music philosopher Dominik von Senger into the unknown and exciting deep ocean of the creative mind. In this podcast, Senger and Schlich talk about Senger´s first encounter with the concept of music, his life in and around Cologne, Hamburg, Amsterdam, first instruments, bands, influence and more.
Dominik von Senger is a german musician best known as the guitar player of Dunkelziffer and the Phantom Band. He uses to be a bandmember of Jango Edwards & Friends Roadshow before he became active in Cologne’s Krautrock scene in the early ’80s. Von Senger was than a member of the quasi post-punk-new wave groups Dunkelziffer and Phantom Band, both of which also included Can’s Jaki Liebezeit, Damo Suzuki and Rosko Gee. Von Senger took the Can type sound and remoulded it into a kind of slick fusion.
Dunkelziffer was a German rock band that stylistically combined African rhythms and reggae with influences of the 80s sound like the New German Wave, which had just emerged at the time. Dunkelziffer has been described as a "German mystic group, playing percussive space reggae". The band was founded in 1981 by Cologne musicians from the Stollwerck scene. The group was designed in such a way that there should be no rigid structures, but each member could be a composer and everyone could contribute their creativity and spontaneity equally at any point in time.
More Band projects:
Damo Suzuki Band, Wolfgang Niedecken & Complizen and the Ya-Ya's, known for their famous life sessions at the YaÝa Club, located @ the Cafe Kalkutta, Kunsthaus Rhenania in Cologne.
Schlich is Visual Artist, Film Maker and Ritual Designer, living and loving in West Cork and best known for his Essay about the Cause and Effect of Shamanism, Art and Digital Culture and the video installation Transodin´s Tragedy.
