Italian street food meets the streets of King Cross. Until this week none of us had heard about Friggitoria, an Italian Eatery that apparently serves some of the best pasta in Sydney and yet when asking our colleagues and friends they had! So we had to see what all the fuss was about.

Nestled amongst a row of quick dine-in options on Bayswater Rd, Friggitoria is serving up fried snacks and a make your own pasta menu. The chef behind it all, Flavio Tosolini, hails from Fourth Village Providore in Mosman which has caused quite the stir, tune in to find out if Friggitoria had the same impact.

Forrester's

27m · Published 30 Nov 13:26
This week we visited a Surry Hills staple, Forrester's. Established in 1921 this neighbourhood calling card has been given a facelift by hospitality giants Applejack. Known for the likes of SoCal and The Butler, we expected to see some beautiful spaces and a well designed drinks menu, both which the middle bar Phylli’s delivered. Decorated in fresh greenery and terracotta toned murals, with a menu taking inspiration from the Americas, this is really a step up. In the rest of the venue they have tried to stay true to it origins, keeping the public bar and salon as is, with craft beer, Aussie wines and $10 Steak night. Forrester really does have something for everyone. Tune in to hear what we really thought.

Blackwood Pantry

29m · Published 23 Nov 13:10
Health food beach babes that’s who we were channeling this week at Blackwood Pantry in Cronulla. Co-owners Rob Lechowicz, Daniel Sorridimi and Paul Pisani, contacted the best of the best when opening this establishment in 2016 and coffee sits at the centre. In the coffee machine is some of Sydney’s top roasting beans and on the all day menu lives a mixture of colourful sweet and savoury dishes. Aesthetically we didn’t think the venue lived up to the hype it had generated and yet it appears to have somewhat a cult following with a line out the door on weekends and the likes of Sarah’s Day even having her own dish on the menu... has the shire shone?

Totti's

42m · Published 09 Nov 14:46
This week's pick needs no introduction, but we will give you one anyway. Another of Justin Hemme’s masterpieces Totti’s opened in late 2018 on Bondi Road connected to the Royal and has become one of Sydney’s most loved venues ever since. Think casual Italian eatery with a hint of Bondi snobbiness. This menu, like most of the guests, is dressed to impressed starting with the famous wood fire bread followed by antipasto and finishing with a delicious array of pasta and wine. Has Justin done it again? Tune in to find out!

Calle Rey

27m · Published 02 Nov 13:18
A 100% vegan menu of Mexican, Peruvian and Japanese cuisines…what on earth? Calle Rey opened its doors on King St in Newtown in February this year however with the hit of COVID it has flown relatively under the radar. Serving up a unique range of flavours and fusions, Executive Chef JC Miranda is aiming to push the boundaries of plant based cuisine with throwing a whole lot of liquor on the side. Inside Calle Rey you will find Diablo Pisco Bar a Peruvian themed bar offering unique cocktails heroing the Peruvian Pisco and largaritas, ginormous margaritas topped with your choice of Vodka Cruiser or Sol beer. Needless to say there is a lot happening and I’m not sure how we feel about it.

Toko

30m · Published 26 Oct 13:00
We took ourselves to the heart of Surry Hills to indulge in a Izakaya inspired dining experience at Toko. With the building itself dating back to 1908 and an interior that can only be described as dark and lush, It’s hard to walk down crown street and miss the spiral matchstick-like wall art that lays within. Once you are within, you’ll be greeted with a perfectly designed menu that is predominately share style, along with Japanese inspired cocktails, sake, and an endless wine list.

Biáng! Biáng!

22m · Published 19 Oct 14:04
If thick, sticky, chewy noodles coated in sweat inducing (or in Bea’s case snot inducing) chilli is your thing then you need to head to Biang Biang. Opening in 2017 by Chinese based company Gu Cheng management, this Chinatown staple shot to fame for its name sake the Biang Biang noodle. Steeped in tradition these cheap and cheerful noodles will definitely not disappoint.

Where souffles meet pancakes. Founded by Takeshi Takata, Gram Cafe and Pancakes opened its first store dedicated to sky-high soufflé pancakes in Osaka back in 2014. Since then Gram Café has received what can only be described as a cult following and in February of this year opened their first Australian establishment in Chatswood. The chefs in the kitchen have been trained by the boss man himself and the pancakes are fluffy AF.
