Obviously Isolating *mostly - The Cottage

28m · Published 20 Jul 14:02
“A place to meet, to eat, and to celebrate” The Cottage Bar and Kitchen in Balmain really does live up to owners Chris Cornforth, Rob Teitzel, and Os Misirlizade motto. Whilst this little cocktail bar will warm your soul with its cosy, homely atmosphere, the menu is a little more wild than woolly. So in other words come for the cocktails and…. stay for the cocktails.

Obviously Isolating *mostly - Gogyo

21m · Published 13 Jul 13:02
There’s ramen and then there’s ramen and Gogyo in Surry Hills is giving us just that. Master and founder Shigemi Kawahara broke tradition in 2003 by burning the crap out of the miso and from there he never looked back. The infamous Kogashi Miso can be found here along with more traditional ramens as well as an eclectic entrée and dessert menu. The dim lighting, wicker lamps, and open kitchen transport you to the backstreets of Tokyo and with one slurp of that juicy juicy ramen you’re in heaven.

Obviously Isolating *mostly - Capriccio Osteria

28m · Published 29 Jun 13:18
When in Rome.. or in this case when in Leichhardt. This week we ventured into the heart of Sydney’s Italian food scene to try some authentic and home style cooking. Capriccio Osteria gives you modern Italian food using traditional techniques inspired by the freshest local ingredients. Head chef Nicole Brampton’s Menu will have something for everybody, but word to the wise, if there is no cheese in the description of the pizza, the pizza may not have any cheese on it… even so ending the night with a complimentary night cap, this beautiful osteria really will give you a taste of Italy.

Obviously Isolating *mostly - Jimmy's Falafel

21m · Published 22 Jun 13:08
Who would be confident enough to open a new venue during COVID... Merivale! And boy are we happy they did. Situated amongst the Ivy Precinct in the heart of the city, Jimmy’s Falafel is delivering a mouth-watering Middle Eastern menu chock-a-block with (you guessed it) FALAFEL! In true Merivale style, the venue itself has been thoughtfully furnished with orange booths, frosted glass, and posters depicting 1960’s Beirut, inviting you in for a bite to eat or an old fashioned. With a long bar at the back, a disco ball and DJ decks it’s clear the venue was not just designed for a casual meal and takeaway, as restrictions continue to ease we envisage Jimmy’s Falafel will be the next hot spot for late-night dancing and drinks so watch this space.

Obviously Isolating *mostly - Don Pedros

23m · Published 15 Jun 13:08
Say hello to Don Pedros the new cantina-style Mexican joint taking Paddington by storm. Situated on Victoria St not far from Paddington Markets, the space once home to The Stables has been transformed with owner Juan Alvarez stripping everything back and filling it with cacti, artwork, bright colours, and Mexican imported candles. The food So Cal inspired has something for everyone and relies heavily on zestiness and spice. Among the killer cocktails and spicy tacos, we were surprised to learn the venue was child friendly, with children eating free on Wednesday’s which just adds to the versatility of the place. Simple, vibrant, and fun, a Mexican Fiesta awaits.

Obviously Isolating *mostly - The Malaya

27m · Published 01 Jun 13:09
Spicy palettes beware! This week on Obviously Good we took a trip down memory lane and took advantage of The Malaya’s home delivery. For those not familiar with this heavenly joint, The Malaya was instrumental in bringing Malaysian cooking to Sydney back in 1963 when founder Wong Tai Si felt inspired by the flavours encountered on his Southeast Asian travels. Rich in history and rich in flavour, The Malaya will have your tastebuds tingling.

Obviously Isolating *mostly - Pizza Fritta 180

26m · Published 25 May 13:03
And just like that, we were back, in a restaurant obviously. As restrictions in NSW restaurants eased we wasted no time and happily waited in line at Pizza Fritta 180 for a night to remember. Opening in February of this year it was not great timing for the new venture from founder and head chef Luigi Esposito of Via Napoli but this didn’t stop him. As the name suggests Pizza Fritta 180 specialises in fried pizza, a dish popular to Naples and which Esposito has been cooking since he was 11. Vibrant, fun, and tasty, Pizza Fritta 180 is not your stock standard pizza place and you would be bonkers not to see for yourself.

Do they taste as good as they look on their Instas and are they historically overpriced, tune in and join us as we discuss all this and more on this week’s episode of Obviously Good
