Cairo Takeaway

26m · Published 05 Oct 13:02

After our Fred’s venture we decided we needed to reign things in a little bit and opt for a cheaper and cheerful experience. So we escaped to Newtown for a crowd favourite Cairo Takeaway.

Owner Hesham El Masry has designed this Egyptian eatery in such a way that makes you feel like you’re walking through the back streets of Cairo. Picture cane tables, leather stools, crates out the front for excited diners and inside counters full of fresh ingredients and fridges full of soft drinks with an Arabic twist. Be prepared to wait for a seat but oh my is it worth it.

FRE D'S

37m · Published 28 Sep 14:03
For our very first episode of season two, we decided to treat ourselves and try somewhere we have been dying to go! Where else than Justin Hemmes “Fre d’s”. This farm to table restaurant fits perfectly into its location in upper Paddington. Walking into the iconic eucalyptus green building through the unassuming glass door you are greeted with a dimly lit cocktail bar and a warm sense of welcoming. The Fre d's dining room is set around the fully functioning kitchen, with a marble island bench and open fire grills for all the diners to watch in anticipation. Head chef, Danielle Alverez’s focus is on sustainable produce which is emulated throughout the open style kitchen with fresh locally sourced ingredients on the countertops for all to see.

Obviously Isolating *mostly - Mejico

30m · Published 14 Sep 13:03
When you can’t go to Mexico bring Mejico to you. This week we dived into Mejico’s almost ready to eat meal box. Creating some of the finest modern market to table Mexican cuisine in Sydney, Mejico combines regional flavours with techniques in their eclectic dishes. It was founded in 2013 by Dr Sam Prince, you might remember that name from the episode where we reviewed INDU. Since then Mejico has continued to make noise amongst the culinary scene and now with the pivot to takeaway it just keeps getting better.

Obviously Isolating *mostly - Mayflower

35m · Published 07 Sep 14:21
If you’re looking to one-up your last brunch spot then look no further, the Mayflower, located on Liverpool street in Darlinghurst will do just that. Christen Lee and Kevin Ly have created the most extra menu with a side of caviar. Keeley Baird has created a space that will have you feeling like you’re somewhere between a world of magic gardens and hello pony. Think, millennial pink, onyx stone tables, quirky resin, and flowers coming from places you didn’t know existed.

Obviously Isolating *mostly - Tsuru

25m · Published 31 Aug 13:02
This week we ordered the DIY Bao Box and Yum Cha Kit from award-winning Sydney food-truck Tsuru. Now you may not recognise them by name, but you will by logo. Think red paper crane splashed on a black background which you have probably seen rolling out Asian street food across most music festivals or local markets. Due to the current climate, they have taken their offerings online to the “Eat Drink Collective” allowing us to experience soft pillowy bao and steaming yum cha in the comfort of our own homes.

Obviously Isolating *mostly - Prince of York

26m · Published 24 Aug 13:03
This week we brought The Prince of York to our living room with the DIY date night pasta kit. The wine bar and restaurant is located at 18 York St, in Sydney’s CBD. You’ve probably walked past it before and thought wow what’s that’s pumping bank??? Well, it’s not a bank anymore, the most notable feature of the whole building is the volt downstairs that hides the most valuable possessions, aka the wines.

Obviously Isolating *mostly - Uncle Mings

30m · Published 17 Aug 14:01
This week we found ourselves in the unassuming brainchild of Justin Best Uncle Mings. Uncle Mings is a swish cocktail bar and late-night dumpling house hidden amongst the hustle and bustle of Sydney’s York St. Down a flight of stairs and through a bamboo curtain you enter what can only be described as a sensory experience. Dark red lighting, incense, and paper lanterns transport you to another setting entirely. Once your eyes adjust and you have managed to find your table a menu of exotic cocktails and delicious dumplings awaits

Obviously Isolating *mostly - Marble

28m · Published 10 Aug 14:01

“A restaurant without fuss, but with linen napkins” – Located in Sydney’s Luxury precinct Barangaroo, Marble is not your average fusion restaurant. This Japanese bar with Korean influence has already started to make waves standing out of the shadows from it's beer-drinking sister Tokki. When owners David Bae and David Ashby gave Chef Jacob Lee creative reign on the menu he took it and ran with it, sourcing a wide range of rare ingredients from across the globe. We think its certainly worth a try!

On this week's episode of Obviously Good we took a journey to the Lord Dudley Hotel. With a venue as timely and charming as this, you could almost mistake it for a backstreet pub in London. Actually located in Woollahra, this family-run business has a classic English twist with all your favourites. Prepare to feel wholesome!

Obviously Isolating *mostly - Henrietta

29m · Published 27 Jul 14:05
On this week’s episode of Obviously Good charcoal chicken meets Lebanese goodness. Who else could take something so run of the mill yet iconic like charcoal chicken and make it an experience… Ibby Moubadder could. From the team that brought us Nour and Cuckoo Callay comes Henrietta the new Lebanese Charcoal Chicken Shop to hit Surry Hills. Think succulent chicken, neon signs, and bubble tea cocktails. This absolute vibe of a place is dishing up traditional Lebanese flavours with a twist and with a takeaway window adjoining the restaurant you can even get it on the go.
