SpaceTimeMusic
by Lyd the SBWSpaceTimeMusic is a podcast exploring the roots, shoots and branches of some of Lyd the SBW's favorite songs through samples and covers. I have always been a music lover. In it I hear love, first and foremost and just like love, it transcends time and space. Come along with me as I tumble down musical rabbit holes. And for me, that usually begins with a sample. I’ll hear a sample in a song and won’t be able to remember where it’s from. I’ll consult Papa Google and discover three other songs that are sampled in that same song and then go searching for them on a streaming service. And that’s when it happens. Through a simple search, a trail of musical cookie crumbs reveals itself to me leading to the most amazing ear-candy houses I have ever heard, sans the child-eating witch.

Ponta de Areia
Ponta de areia, ponto final
Da Bahia à Minas, estrada natural
Que ligava Minas ao porto, ao mar
Caminho do ferro mandaram arrancar
Velho maquinista com seu boné
Lembra o povo alegre que vinha cortejar
Maria Fumaça, não canta mais
Para moças, flores, janelas e quintais
Na praça vazia, um grito um ai
Casas esquecidas, viúvas nos portais
Ponta de areia (Sand Point), last stop
Of the Bahia-Minas, a natural road
That connected Minas to the sea and its ports
Iron road that they ordered to be ripped out
The old conductor with his cap
Remembers the joyful, simple people he used to greet
The steam locomotive that doesn’t sing anymore
To the ladies, flowers and backyards
At the empty public square, a scream, an “ouch”
Forgotten old houses that became widows at the cities’ portals

LYRICS:
Sinnerman (Traditional)
Oh, sinnerman, where you gonna run to?
Sinnerman where you gonna run to?
Where you gonna run to?
All on that day
We got to run to the rock
Please hide me, I run to the rock
Please hide me, run to the rock
Please hide here
All on that day
But the rock cried out
I can't hide you, the rock cried out
I can't hide you, the rock cried out
I ain't gonna hide you there
All on that day
I said rock
What's the matter with you rock?
Don't you see I need you, rock?
Good Lord, Lord
All on that day
So I run to the river
It was bleedin', I run to the sea
It was bleedin', I run to the sea
It was bleedin', all on that day
So I run to the river
It was boilin', I run to the sea
It was boilin', I run to the sea
It was boilin', all on that day
So I run to the Lord
Please hide me, Lord
Don't you see me prayin'?
Don't you see me down here prayin'?
But the Lord said
Go to the Devil, the Lord said
Go to the Devil
He said go to the Devil
All on that day
So I ran to the Devil
He was waitin', I ran to the Devil
He was waitin', ran to the Devil
He was waitin', all on that day
Get By (Nina, Talib, Kanye)
Yeah...my Lord...yeah
We sell, crack to our own out the back of our homes
We smell the musk at the dusk in the crack of the dawn
We go through "Epidodes II, " like "Attack of the Clones"
Work 'til we break our back and you hear the crack of the bone
To get by...just to get by
Just to get by, just to get by
We commute to computers
Spirits stay mute while you eagles spread rumors
We survivalists, turned to consumers
To get by...just to get by
Just to get by, just to get by
Ask Him why some people got to live in a trailer, cuss like a sailor
I paint a picture with the pen like Norman Mailer
Me and Willa raised three daughters all by herself, with no help
I think about a struggle and I find the strength in myself
These words, melt in my mouth
They hot, like the jail cell in the South
Before my nigga Core bailed me out
To get by.. just to get by
Just to get by, just to get by
We do or die like Bed-Stuy through the red sky
with the window of the red eye
Let the lead fly, some G. Rap shit, "Livin' to Let Die"
This morning, I woke up
Feeling brand new and I jumped up
Feeling my highs, and my lows
In my soul, and my goals
Just to stop smokin', and stop drinkin'
And I've been thinkin' - I've got my reasons
Just to get (by), just to get (by)
Just to get (by), just to get (by)
We keeping it gangster say "fo shizzle", "fo sheezy" and "stayincrunk"
It’s easy to pull a breezy, smoke trees, and we stay drunk
Yo, I activism - attackin' the system, the blacks and latins in prison
Numbers of prison they victim black in the vision
Shit and all they got is rappin' to listen to
I let them know we missin' you, the love is unconditional
Even when the condition is critical, when the livin is miserable
Your position is pivotal, I ain't bullshittin' you
Now, why would I lie? Just to get by?
Just to get by, we get fly
The TV got us reachin' for stars
Not the ones between Venus and Mars, the ones that be readin' for parts
Some people get breast enhancements and penis enlargers
Saturday sinners Sunday morning at the feet of the Father
They need somethin' to rely on, we get high on all types of drug
When, all you really need is love
To get by...just to get by
Just to get by, just to get by
Our parents sing like John Lennon, "Imagine all the people watch"
We rock like Paul McCartney from now until the last Beatles drop
Some people cry, and some people try
Just to get by, for a piece of the pie
You love to eat and get high
We deceive when we lie, and we keepin' it fly
When, the people decide, to keep a disguise
Can't see they eyes, see the evil inside
But there's people you find
Strong or feeble in mind, I stay readin' the signs
