Principles of Success - Surround yourself with great people

14m · Published 25 Apr 16:22

There are a number of people that are critical to your success. One of the keys is surrounding yourself with greatness.

Find your friend group - A group of people that will build you up, support your dreams, and help you succeed.

Each of us is conditioned to see what people do more than what they say they meant by what they did.

Misaligned Attribution is the theory that we judge ourselves based on our intentions and others based on their actions.

No matter what situation you are in, the next move is yours.

37m · Published 20 Apr 20:24

Napoleon Hill outlined the 13 causes of success in his book, Think and Grow Rich, published in 1937.

We are going through a few of the keys to success in this podcast with a strong focus on how to create an unwavering faith in yourself and your dream, as well as learning to visualize.

True visualization is the acceptance of an end result as if it has already come to pass.

Find Your Motivation

15m · Published 29 Mar 12:00

Motivation is more than a great phrase on a poster. It is the development of an identity that says it is worthwhile to work through the struggle to the outcome on the other side. In this episode, Meghan and Jody discuss the internal and external factors of motivation. There are several key areas that each of us must address in order to become the best version of ourselves.

  • Create an identity that says, "I'm the kind of person who (insert best self here)."
  • Adopt a growth mindset that says you have learned stuff before and overcome challenges before and can do it again.
  • Fill your mind with good stuff. Surround yourself with people who encourage you. Fill your mind with positive books, videos, and podcasts.
  • Bonus: You have to be your own biggest encourager. If you don't intentionally push yourself to find the next best version of you, while learning from your past experiences, you limit your potential. Don't do that!

The Hero's Journey

34m · Published 26 Mar 12:00

Throughout our lives, we are called to face challenges, overcome obstacles, and find our path to success. In this episode of Become The Leader, originally recorded on KGNC and News Channel 10-2 in Amarillo, we discuss the four primary aspects of the journey every person goes through to become the hero of their own story.

  1. Everything is Normal
  2. The Shakeup happens
  3. The hero is refined, typically with the help of a guide, mentor, or coach
  4. The hero comes back to the world with new wisdom, new powers, or a new way to conquer life.

When we embrace that we were always meant to be the hero of our own story, we find the fulfillment we desire in life.

In this episode, we talk about the impacts on culture, profit, retention and more of how we operate as leaders.

A transformation leader is playing the long game, looking for ways to inspire their people to be their best, do their best, and have an incredible time achieving with the organization.

A transactional leader is playing the short game, looking for ways to win now and win at all costs. This often leaders to dissatisfied employees who simply won't stay with the organization. It also leaders to incredible costs to the bottom line.

Check out this episode as Jody, David, Meagan, and Chuck discuss becoming a transformational leader and building great cultures.

How Company Culture Impacts Everything

35m · Published 07 Mar 13:00

In this episode, we talk about how the culture of a company impacts everything in the business. There are 3 primary components to building a culture. They are creating Alignment, developing Workflow, and implementing a great Feedback system.

This episode was originally recorded as a part of a radio show that Jody does every Wednesday. The Chat is on KGNC 710 AM and streaming on News Channel 10-2.

In this episode, we dive into what drives people to want to engage, perform, and give their discretionary effort at work. Without a great culture, we don't keep people. After all, people work for people, not for companies.

The Drama Triangle

12m · Published 10 Feb 22:04

The drama triangle is an explanation of the 3 primary components, or root causes of drama in any aspect of our lives.

The three areas that cause drama are when we try to play...

  • The Hero - To get past playing the hero, we have to respect another person's ability to do the job and care enough to spend the time helping them find their path to success. If we do things for them, they don't grow.
  • The Victim - To get past playing the victim, we have to be vulnerable enough to accept our role in the situation we find ourselves in. We then have to focus on our next steps and actually solving our problems. After all, nobody knows more about the problems a person has than the person themselves.
  • The Villain - To get past being the villain, we have to flex our emotional intelligence muscles and feel empathetically for the other person. By focusing on seeing the world from their perspective, we are able to see the pathway to drive past the limitations they are experiencing.

In the end, each of the three areas of the drama triangle is the result of staying focused on what is wrong with "those other people" instead of stepping back from the situation and learning a little perspective.

Episode 6: The 5 Things Responsibility Centered Leaders Do

18m · Published 21 Sep 14:00

In Patrick Lencioni's book, The Motive, he talks about the difference between reward-centered and responsibility-centered leaders. There are 5 things responsibility-centered leaders do that reward-centered leaders don't pay enough attention to at work.

  1. Develop your team and never stop focusing on the development of the team. The greatest companies understand the personal growth can never stop because it determines the growth and success of the team as a whole.
  2. Manage your subordinates and ensure they manage their subordinates. We have to play an active role in managing our people to ensure they have the greatest chance of success.
  3. Have difficult conversations to address wrong behaviors and wrong outcomes. It isn't the person you hired wrong that will destroy your company. It is the person you should have already fired that will.
  4. Run great meetings. Too many people dread meetings and, therefore, check out mentally at the start of the meeting. You have to set standards and expectations before the meetings begin in order to have great meetings that engage your teams.
  5. Communicate constantly and continuously. What is important needs repeating. Not only is it worth it to repeat yourself on important things like values, but it is also required.
