Interview with Mark Schulz

28m · Published 03 Apr 05:01

In his book “The Meaning of Marriage” Tim Keller writes, “To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything.”

Pastor Schulz, the former pastor at Trinity Lisle, is the founder of Fully Known and Truly Loved, an organization that seeks to help churches recognize their blind spots, grow in their understanding, and reach out in a loving way to the LGBTQ people who are eager to be part of a caring faith community. Of LGBTQ people who grew up in a faith community, 76% are open to returning to a faith community but are afraid of how they would be received. Hear from Pastor Schulz how we can LOVE ONE ANOTHER and share Christ’s Peace with EVERYONE.

Who and First Steps

16m · Published 06 Mar 19:59

There are many people in our circles of relationships. These circles contain people at work, school, PTA, clubs, the gym, children’s activities, and many more. How do we find the right people to start a discipling relationship with and what are my first steps to developing this or starting this relationship. In this month’s episode we will look at these two questions and find ways to help you in your disciplining relationship.

Disciple Maker - Information - Imitation - Innovation

20m · Published 07 Feb 22:24

Through my time with different discipling organizations, I have heard a repeated theme about making disciples and being a discipleInformation – Imitation – Innovation.

What does this mean or what is the big deal with this phrase? This is the basic process of all of discipleship. In my first book “How are You Doing?” we talked about the 4 Cs (Connect, Care, Community, Christ) that is how you lead someone into a relationship you and with Jesus. But there is a follow-up step to this, how do we help people step out of just being a disciple and into a disciple making posture. I want you to think of being a disciple maker like an apprenticeship where one is the leader and models, explains, and teaches the “job” to someone else. In this podcast we will talk about these three terms and what they mean for you as a disciple maker.

Jan-NEW-ary

20m · Published 04 Jan 16:55

Well, it is 2024 and now what. I saw a meme the other day that said, “Before I agree to 2024, I want to read the terms and conditions of the year.” Yes, we are again moving into a year of the unknown. However, this is also a time of starting something new. Many take time to make a resolution to “better themselves”. What if this year instead of making a resolution to lose weight or go to the gym or who knows what, we make a resolution to do something new for our faith life.

It's time for your faith to SOAR

Start something new in 2024

In this month’s podcast we will explore some of the ways you can help your faith soar this year and some helpful hints and ideas to help you in Jan-NEW-ary.

Connect

17m · Published 05 Oct 15:47

The first step in discipleship according to the 4 C’s (talked about in a previous podcast and in my book “How Are You Doing?”). However, many people feel they can’t connect with people, they feel it is awkward and not a simple process. I have heard from many people that they can’t talk to people because they are introverted or they do not know what to say. In this episode we'll explore three simple yet profound teachings for building meaningful connections with others:

1. Ask Open-Ended Questions: Discover the art of asking questions that invite deeper conversations, creating opportunities for genuine connection.

2. Listen for Connection Points: Learn the skill of active listening to uncover shared experiences and establish rapport effortlessly.

3. Go into Conversation with the Intention of Getting to Know the Person: Explore the transformative power of approaching conversations with a genuine curiosity about others.

Through practical exercises and thoughtful reflection, this worksheet will empower you to enhance your interpersonal skills, fostering stronger, more authentic relationships in both your personal and professional life. Let's get started on the path to more meaningful connections.

Prayer

In this episode of the POPCAST we will talk about living a life on prayer and what prayer can look like for you as you go out with Jesus to help others see Jesus. We will talk through three areas of prayer for you:

1. Why should I pray?

2. What do I pray about?

3. How do I pray as I GO to help others connect with Jesus?

I AM NOT OK

21m · Published 17 May 16:43

As leaders and people who disciple others most of the time we are looking out for others and making sure they are OK.  However, many times we are never looking at ourselves to make sure we are doing OK.  The facts are that about 80% of the thoughts we have every day are negative or of the 6000 thoughts you have a day 4800 are negative thoughts and that is if you are not dealing with a diagnosed form of mental illness (depression, anxiety, etc.).  This week on the pod cast we are going to talk through some things that can and will help you deal with your mind and help you be better, feel better, and heal.
