Disaster recovery: A 72-hour turnaround after flooded, collapsed offices

23m · Published 18 Feb 23:50

Today our guest is Grant Emanuel, who is the Marketing Director of the Chamberlain Group – which is the world’s largest manufacturer of garage door, commercial door and gate openers.

In November 2018, during a Sydney storm, the Chamberlain Group’s head office in Australia flooded – with the equivalent volume of water in a 25m swimming pool.

Not only was there extensive water damage, the ceilings collapsed and everything inside was destroyed. Within 72 hours, the 40 plus member Chamberlain team were back up and running.

The disaster challenged and changed the Chamberlain team for the better.

Grant was part of the team responsible for the decisions around this. So today we’re going to talk about how they responded so effectively.

With many businesses dealing with natural disaster across Australia at the moment, we hope that this is going to be a really helpful discussion.

Senior women in science: Fixing the dry spell with HR

0s · Published 07 Feb 05:38

Elissa Dwyer is Human Resources Director at the Heart Research Institute; one of Australia’s leading cardiovascular research facilities. Of course, it still operates as a business that needs to see success, and one of its main identifiable struggles is attracting and retaining women in senior roles.

We talk about how the HRI have had to tailor their HR programmes to specifically address this issue and we delve into how exactly they do that. As the HR team is quite small, as is the case within lots of small to medium sized businesses, they look externally for the best strategies and rely on knowledge from outside of the organisation.

As well as this, we talk about achieving a work life balance for your employees, wellbeing specifically and achieving a great pipeline of talent and new hires.
