How Dr. Kristian Edwards Created The Non Toxic Marketplace By Black Artisans- BLK + GRN!

26m · Published 02 Feb 18:25

In today’s episode, I catch up with Dr. Kristian Edwards- she’s the Founder and CEO of the one stop shop for non toxic, all natural, black owned products, BLK+GRN.

As a public health professor and graduate of Yale and John’s Hopkins University, Dr. Edwards had a passion to find products that were non toxic and all natural for use in her everyday life. This occurred once she found out that products marketed to black women were disproportionally infused with harmful chemicals, compared to products being sold to other demographics! Dr. Kristian thought this was absurd and sought out to create her very own non toxic marketplace, that featured products created by all Black Female Artisans. Dr. Kristian’s entrepreneurial endeavor is the culmination of her belief in #BlackGirlMagic and her experiences in the public health industry. She is an unshakable optimist who is passionate about helping women cultivate a lifestyle that’s free of artificial ingredients, toxins, and harmful chemicals. She believes that doing so is the only way to foster true happiness. The fundamental hope in buying Black and living green as a non-compromising choice is what connects her journey to a community that also wants to craft and consume products consciously. Since 2018, BLK+GRN has elevated over 100 black owned brands and has shipped over 19,000 orders of non toxic products worldwide! BLK+GRN sells products that go through a rigorous checklist of qualifications to ensure that consumers are receiving the safest, highest quality of products sold in categories such as skin care, hair care, bath & body, plus more!

BLK+GRN has been featured in publications such as Essence, Forbes, Blavity, USA Today, and The New York Times - to name a few. Dr. Kristian attributes the early success of her company to the artisans and customers who remain authentic and intentional about health, wellness, and community cultivation.

I had such a great time interviewing Dr. Kristian Edwards as she shared her journey through entrepreneurship in this candid discussion! So without further a do, let’s tune in to hear how she built her Empire- BLK+GRN!

How Jade Aminah Created The Lazy Hat!- The Perfect Solution For Naturals On The Go!

45m · Published 12 Nov 16:17

Meet Jade Aminah- CEO/Founder of The Lazy Hat! Starting out as a natural hair blogger, Jade spent a lot of her time teaching simple, cute natural hairstyles to her following on her Youtube channel @Simplyjade_101. However, Jade quickly began to realize that there were also those lazy days where women with natural hair did not feel up to styling their hair at all, but still wanted to look cute in public. As a result, Jade invented The Lazy Hat, a new and convenient hat with quality hair attached, designed for the busy black woman on the go!

Proven to be a naturalista's best friend, the idea for The Lazy Hat sprung out of the early pandemic when Jade Aminah had no time or motivation to style her own natural hair, but still needed a way to look presentable when stepping out of the house to run quick errands or even hop on a quick zoom meeting call for work!

Jade Aminah sought out her materials and hand-crafted a simple solution to use when she was either having a bad hair day or when there was simply just not enough time to style her hair for an upcoming task. Having been actively engaged with her YouTube following for over six years sharing natural hair tutorials, Jade devised The Lazy Hat for women of color who might also want a quick fix to their hair while on the go, just like her!

34m · Published 05 Nov 01:27

In today's episode, I had the pleasure of catching up with Mariel Mejia, the Founder/CEO of Pink Root Hair Products. Mariel is a Dominican-American NYC native, born and raised in the Bronx. After years of using relaxers on her hair from the young age of 11, Mariel found herself left with dry, brittle hair from all the damage caused to it by using excessive chemicals and heat. After graduating college in 2017, Mariel Mejia began experimenting with DIY recipes and formulas to improve her hair’s condition.

Through much hard work, dedication and brilliant formulations, Mariel Mejia was able to launch Pink Root Hair Products in 2019. With her brand new company initially starting out as a passion project, Mariel soon decided to take the leap and left her corporate job quickly after that to work on her hair care brand full time!

Pink Root Products was created to help customers struggling with chemically treated and heat-damaged hair, transition it back to its natural glory. I can’t wait to share Mariel Mejia's amazing story with you, she is truly genuine and left so many gems in this interview!
