The podcast episode discusses Andrew Wilkinson's entrepreneurial journey, particularly focusing on his founding of the company Flow, a task tracking and productivity app for teams and small businesses. The conversation delves into the challenges faced by Flow as a bootstrapped business in a competitive market dominated by venture-backed giants like Asana. Despite their focus on product design and passionate user base, Flow struggled to compete against well-funded competitors like Asana, which had substantial marketing budgets and rapidly expanded feature sets. The episode highlights the difficulties of sustaining a bootstrapped startup in an industry where raising capital is often seen as essential for success. It explores Flow's decision to turn down an acquisition offer from Asana and the subsequent challenges they encountered while trying to grow organically. Despite their dedication to the product and loyal customer base, Flow faced obstacles such as limited resources and underestimated competition. The podcast also discusses the transition in leadership at Flow, with Daniel Scrivner taking over as CEO after a period of downsizing. The challenges of overhauling the app and maintaining momentum with a reduced team are explored, culminating in the release of Flow X, a major update aimed at streamlining team collaboration. Ultimately, we'll conclude with an update on Flow's status, noting Daniel Scrivner's departure from the company in 2022 and the lack of information about its current leadership. The podcast reflects on Flow's journey as a potential "cigar butt" for Tiny Capital, where minimal investments are made in the asset until its eventual decline. Despite the uncertainties surrounding Flow's future, the episode provides insights into the trials and tribulations of building and sustaining a bootstrapped startup in a competitive market. Effective Accelerationism, abbreviated as e/acc, represents a collection of ideas and practices geared towards maximizing the likelihood of reaching the technocapital singularity. This movement aims to create an environment where emergent consciousness can thrive. Influential figures in the tech industry, such as Marc Andreessen, have shown their support by incorporating "e/acc" into their usernames. The movement's mascot is an enigmatic "tech founder" known as Beff Jezos. E/acc, short for Effective Accelerationism, is rooted in Nick Land's accelerationist theories. It advocates the belief that artificial intelligence and large language models (LLMs) will pave the way for a post-scarcity technological utopia. The movement's name is also a clever nod to Effective Altruism. E/acc communities predominantly thrive on Twitter, particularly through Twitter Spaces, where enthusiasts share e/acc manifestos via the Substack newsletter platform. A huge thanks to Margaux MacColl of The Information for her article 'It's a cult' that was used as the basis for this episode. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Bloomfilter is a process intelligence platform for software development. Their whole mission is built on the belief that businesses rely on software development to solve problems and deliver a better user experience. However, software development projects are notorious for missing deadlines and budget estimates. There’s some research that even shows that 2/3 of software projects are either challenged or fail altogether, while 70% of software projects are delivered late, over budget, or are not delivered to the original specifications. And so… Bloomfilter is setting out to change that with process mining and predictive algorithms that are meant to help software development teams identify bottlenecks in the development process, objectively predict project outcomes, and deliver software on time and within budget.
