#38 The Struggle is Real! Marketing Expert Matthew Skerry Gets Real with Sue Styles

29m · Published 30 Nov 15:38

Do you struggle with knowing what makes great marketing?

Matthew Skerry has fifteen years of marketing experience in the investment and real estate industries world wide and is one of the few guests I have interviewed who actually has a university degree in marketing – SO, what has he learned over his years of success and mistakes?

LOTS!!

He shares big take-aways such as taking aim like a sniper rather than just shooting off a shotgun. We talk precision, how different marketing is needed for different audiences (sounds like common sense but you would be surprised), and how one of his biggest mistakes became one of his biggest lessons.

YOU will also take away valuable lessons from this episode!

#37 Optimism can be the source of bad mistakes! Entrepreneur Chris LaBossiere talks to Sue Styles

30m · Published 14 Oct 17:05

Tried and Tested Advice: Be more practical, allow more skepticism, design your business strategically, and be more reflective rather than bulldozing ahead - or giving up too soon.

Chris’s companies are more than just a sku, they are here to serve LEARNERS. They go above and beyond in providing licensing courses and exams by offering things entrepreneurs really need to know – which is a lot more than most (and more importantly, their competitors).

What are the steps they went through to discover their own brand? Chris believes that vision, values, personality, and authenticity are key drivers to a solid brand that builds success. There is so much ‘fake news’ online and we have become highly tuned to in-authenticity. Being purely transactional won’t build a legacy brand.

We talk about getting comfortable with taking risks and with becoming resilient … the fact that there are no new ideas! But it doesn’t mean that you can’t succeed with your idea; apply better thinking, use better strategy, learn to use capital to your advantage!

#36 She designed a life she loved! Instagram influencer Juliana Loewen talks to Sue Styles

29m · Published 06 Oct 15:10

[You will want to watch video version of this one on for all the beautiful pics!]

How did this Insta Influencer and travel fashionista with three children learn how to market her channels so that she can share her passion for family and travelling as an important part of her life?!

Juliana shares smart tips that you can use and will certainly appreciate from this rare behind the scenes honesty.

Juliana and husband Jake lived in Abu Dhabi for a year with their first son, Ben and loved the opportunity to travel to many countries – 14 by the time Ben was 2!

She came home to Canada so full of stories that she wanted an outlet to share their travels with those who also wanted to travel with family! When she gets an idea she isn’t afraid to reach out and ask for the collaborations or business – it got her in the Kelowna Now publication!

Juliana says that networking has been her best form of marketing and she still does it today. She also uses a mood board to keep her vision sharp and stay focused on her goals.

Shout out to Wine Women and Well-Being as a place for women entrepreneurs to come together, meet like-minded people and even help each other.

Purposefully authentic, she doesn’t just talk about products for money, she only shares what really uses and believes in.

#35 Clutter is just unmade decisions! Instagram influencer Megan Golightly talks to Sue Styles

29m · Published 01 Oct 17:31

'Clutter around your home is just unmade decisions', says Megan Golightly, owner of Simplified who has a degree in psychology with an interest in Neuroscience.

This ‘Influencer’ and well-known Professional Organizer talks about the keys of organization but more importantly she shares the behind the scenes of what works to market a business.

Behind the scenes 80% of her time is working ON the business and 20% is working IN the business with her clients.

Her past career with Johnson & Johnson helped with some marketing basics, like, “Don’t show up and just throw up” lol, but her road to success has been paved with the school of hard knocks for this entrepreneur.

The overwhelming clutter in one’s home is similar to the paralysis by analysis that business owners can suffer from when trying to come up with good ideas to grow and organize their own business.

Megan admits, “The worst days are the days when I stop believing in myself because that’s when the magic stops”

But she promises, “If you are passionate about your business, the rest will come!”

For her, she took action:

· by reaching out to 3000 potential clients

· and she personally reads and answers her DM’s,

· she shares her expertise openly and generously

Don’t be afraid to ask ask ask ask ask!!! Her tenacity led to celebrity clients and expansive growth.
