11. How to Show You Care

18m · Published 25 Oct 07:00

Ready to dive into some listeners’ stories about when people went above and beyond to show that they care? If so, tune in for this amazing episode! You can do for one what you wish you could do for many. I want you to feel confident in your gifts and free to love others, and I think that’s exactly what this episode will inspire you to do!

To say that you care is one thing. To show that you care is quite another. With that in mind, I asked my community one simple question about their fondest memories of times that someone showed that they care. In this episode, I’ll explore the amazing stories that were shared in response! Edwin, a cancer survivor, talks about how much various acts of kindness meant during his sickness. Teresa shares how meaningful a friend’s message was. Another listener stayed in a friend’s house for years while battling cancer, while another shares a touching story about her late husband and a famous singer.

While some of these stories are deeply meaningful expressions of gratitude for kindness given during times of struggle, others are simply about the little things that make every day brighter! Tanya, for example, talks about a coworker who gave her enough yogurt for breakfast each day this week. Isn’t that great? It’s not only the big things that matter; every act of kindness is a chance for gratitude and appreciation.

I’ll wrap up the episode with two stories about experiences of my own involving intentional love. It was a powerful reminder for me of what can happen when you listen to the Holy Spirit. After all, the best things in life aren’t things; they’re the relationships and impact you have, and the way other people feel around you. Those things are what will truly make a difference!

[10:25] - We hear more stories of gratitude, one from a woman who was then living in Greece and another featuring Lady J herself!

10. How cancer created clarity

20m · Published 18 Oct 07:00

Has your life ever been interrupted by a tragedy or something that you didn’t see coming? Surprisingly, the most trying seasons of your life can turn out to be your biggest blessings in disguise.

This is something I learned while I was caring for my mom as she went through chemo. The process helped me to get clearer in my business and life than ever before. As you listen to today’s episode, you’ll hear something I wrote called “The Little Box of Prayers.” I’ll share some of my distinct memories from that time, and talk about some of the helpful, generous-hearted people who God put in my path when I needed them most.

As my mom left the hospital, the doctors and nurses gave her a standing ovation and thanked her. Even in her weakness, my mom was strong enough to encourage others. Isn’t that incredible? That’s something I believe we all need to take to heart. Even when we don’t feel like putting one foot in front of the other, there’s something deep down inside of you that will help you persist and use my gifts to God’s glory and to encourage other people.

My business grew incredibly during that time of honestly sharing about what I was going through. My email list grew, and I got amazing followers who are still with me today. I learned that you never know what sharing authentically and transparently will do not only for you, but also for those who look up to you.

I want to encourage you to be in awe of God’s glory and to stop to notice and appreciate the little things. What can you be in awe of today? We often ask God to change our situation, but he may be using our situation to change us. So rest in the grip of God’s grace, knowing that when He interrupts your life, it’s for a good reason.

In This Episode:

[00:48] - Jevonnah introduces today’s subject, and reassures listeners that everything is going to be alright.

[02:32] - We hear about Jevonnah’s brand-new signature course, The Coaching Course.

[04:20] - Today’s listener shout-out goes to Jamie, who left a wonderful review on iTunes! If you want a shot at getting mentioned on the show, leave a rating and review on iTunes. If you have a question you’d like to hear answered on the show, scroll down at the following link to ask Jevonnah a question.

[06:18] - Jevonnah digs into how her mother’s cancer gave her major clarity in her business.

[10:13] - We hear some of Jevonnah’s clear memories from the time of her mother’s illness.

[12:43] - We learn about what happened as Jevonnah’s mom left the hospital.

[14:02] - Jevonnah talks about the impact that her mom’s illness had on her business.

[14:54] - Jevonnah shares some words of wisdom, and encourages caretakers to take care of themselves too. You can’t take care of someone else if you’re lacking in your own needs.

[15:42] - One day on her way to the hospital, Jevonnah noticed a little girl with an expression of astonishment. Jevonnah shares the story and the powerful lesson that she learned from the experience.

[18:12] - Jevonnah hopes that you’ve found today’s episode impactful, inspiring, and encouraging.

9. How to know when it's time to persist or quit

17m · Published 11 Oct 07:00

Today we’ll be talking about winning and quitting. You’ve probably heard that “winners never quit,” but the truth is that the best winners among us quit all the time. Surprised? Ready to learn more? Tune in!

Here’s what I mean: winners quit things that aren’t working, that are draining them, or that aren’t in their zone of genius. It’s absolutely okay to pivot. I want you to really think about what you’ll take into the new year, and what you’ll leave behind. You have the freedom to do that, and you don’t need to feel guilty for your decisions.

In today’s episode, I’ll share some real-world strategies from Michael Hyatt that can help you figure out whether to persist on your goals, pivot to different goals, or quit altogether. First, you need to identify why you’re stuck! There are seven things to consider to figure this out:

  1. Maybe you have a divided focus. Narrow your focus to 2-3 goals per quarter.
  2. Perhaps you’ve lost visibility of the goal. Take time daily or weekly to review your goals.
  3. A change of circumstances might have happened. If this is the case, go through Jevonnah’s five R’s: rejoice, recommit, revise, remove, or replace your goal.
  4. You might have a decline in motivation. It’s time to review and revise your motivation!
  5. Maybe you experienced failure to launch. If this is why you’re stuck, create an activation trigger.
  6. You might be experiencing a decline in energy. Make sure that you’re following the rhythm of refreshing.
  7. You may have a delay of achievement and be wondering if you can finish. When I hit that wall, I take charge of my thinking and my mind.

Tune into this episode to learn more about all of this, and how you can absolutely do all things through Christ, even if that means persisting past exhaustion or heartache.

In This Episode:

[00:49] - Jevonnah introduces what she’ll be talking about today: how to know when it’s time to persist or quit.

[01:38] - We hear a couple of powerful things to keep in mind. First, “every good thing is not a God thing.” Next, “we often ask God to change our situation, not knowing that He put us in that situation to change us.” Wow!

[02:58] - Jevonnah gives a shout-out to today’s amazing iTunes listener, Nicole! Want to get mentioned on the show? Leave a rating and review on iTunes! If you have a question you’d like featured on the show, go to this page, scroll down, and submit your question.

[04:02] - We dig into today’s content, starting with how to know whether it’s time to persist on your goals, pivot, or quit altogether.

[06:57] - If you’ve had major life changes, use Jevonnah’s five R’s to adjust your approach: rejoice, recommit, revise, remove, or replace.

[08:33] - Jevonnah talks about the fourth and fifth steps in figuring out why you’re stuck.

[10:17] - Possibility #6 for why you’re stuck is that you might be experiencing a decline in energy.

[11:41] - We learn about the 7th and final possibility for why you may be stuck.

[13:18] - Jevonnah shares the quit-proof question: “Would I still be glad if I accomplish this in six months?”

[13:54] - Jevonnah encourages listeners to read The Traveler’s Gift by Andy Andrews, and shares a powerful quote from the book.

[16:02] - Jevonnah takes a moment to express her gratitude that you joined her this week, and shares her hope that the episode has been hugely impactful for you.

7. How to go deeper with less

14m · Published 27 Sep 07:00

When you hear about going deeper with less, don’t you just feel better? It opens up the idea of possibilities even in a world where all of us are overwhelmed with things to do both personally and professionally. If you’re not careful, everything you need to do can leave your mind spinning! This is why it’s so important that we are intentional about going deeper with less.

In today’s episode, you’ll learn all about my intentional three-step system for going deeper with less. Here are the three steps you’ll hear about:

  • Reflect. Sit down with your thoughts in a quiet space and answer this question: “Do I really need all of this?”
  • Refresh. When you’re going deeper with less, you need to refresh both your mind and spirit. Take time to relax, whatever that means to you!
  • Recommit! If you’re going to go deeper with less, you need to recommit to what you’re going to go deeper with.

Tune in to learn more about this system and each of the three steps, as well as my strategies for making sure that I get the most out of my books, some powerful opportunities for you (including my Facebook group Thrive! and my Leading Ladies Mastermind), how going deeper with less can simplify your life, why it’s so important to take time for yourself, and more!

In This Episode:

[00:46] - Jevonnah welcomes listeners to episode 7 of the podcast, and shares her appreciation for listeners.

[01:15] - We hear more about what Jevonnah will explore in this episode. Jevonnah then gives a shout-out to a listener who left a review for the podcast!

[02:27] - Today’s show is brought to you by Jevonnah’s Leading Ladies Mastermind! If you’re a lady in business and leadership who wants to maximize your potential, check out this group.

[03:01] - Jevonnah talks about just why it’s so important to be intentional about going deeper with less.

[04:00] - We hear Jevonnah’s three-step system. The first step is to reflect and create mental bandwidth for yourself.

[05:53] - Be selective and reflect on whether you really need all the things you have, Jevonnah urges.

[07:13] - Jevonnah shares a practice that she does that involves labeling books.

[08:21] - Part of going deeper with less means not looking at the grass on the other side.

[08:52] - Jevonnah talks about her Facebook group Thrive!

[09:27] - The second step in Jevonnah’s three-step system is to refresh.

[10:44] - The third and final step in Jevonnah’s system is to recommit.

6. The secret that changes everything

12m · Published 20 Sep 07:00

So, what’s my secret? It’s two chairs. If you’re not familiar with the concept already from the excellent book 2 Chairs by Bob Beaudine, this probably sounds a little cryptic, but let me explain. You set up two chairs in whatever place where you have your quiet time. These chairs should be facing each other, as if you’re setting up to have a meeting for someone (because that’s exactly what you’re doing).

You sit in one of the chairs, and then you allow the Spirit of God to sit in the other. The way I see it, God is first in our businesses, and Jesus Christ is the CEO. We get our wisdom, direction, and leadership from Him. Especially as you become successful in business, you begin to ask yourself whether you can sustain this level of success and performance. The answer is that by ourselves, no, we can’t -- we need God’s strength! In our weakness, he is made strong.

In these times, two chairs asks three vital questions:

  • Does God know your situation?
  • Is it too hard for Him to handle?
  • Does He have a good plan for you?

I hope you know the answers to all of these! If you have any doubts, tune into the episode to learn what they are. You’ll also learn how to use the two chairs system, why it’s so important to give Him longer to speak than you take, which Scripture is making a huge difference in my life these days, and more!

In This Episode:

[00:47] - Jevonnah welcomes listeners and takes a moment to share her appreciation.

[01:22] - We learn more about the practice that has changed everything for Jevonnah: two chairs.

[02:39] - Jevonnah explains how you can use the two chairs practice, and why it’s important.

[03:41] - We hear a quote from the book 2 Chairs by Bob Beaudine, and Jevonnah explores how it relates to this concept.

[04:35] - Two chairs asks three vital questions. Jevonnah digs into what they are.

[05:59] - Jevonnah encourages listeners to do two things. First, get a copy of the book. Second, set up your own two chairs, then leave a comment on iTunes as a review to let her know how that simple practice is changing your life!

[07:58] - Today’s show is brought to you by the Leading Ladies Mastermind, Jevonnah’s business accelerator.

[08:45] - Jevonnah shares the Scripture that is making a huge difference in her life, and may make a difference in yours too.

[10:51] - Jevonnah takes a moment to pray with listeners.

[11:54] - Thank you for taking the time to listen to today’s show! Don’t forget to subscribe to receive future episodes, and please leave a review on iTunes!

5. Are you truly a pro?

21m · Published 13 Sep 07:00

Are you truly a pro?

Your immediate answer might be “yes,” but let’s explore a little more deeply. At what point in your career did you become a pro? I’m careful with that word, because the way I see it, none of us has truly arrived yet. There’s always something to learn, no matter how successful we are and how many wins we have. Instead of saying I’m a pro, I like to say I’m a pro at learning! After all, constantly learning is a requirement of being a pro.

I asked this question of my audience, and they had some fantastic answers. David Hancock, for example, said, “I am always a student in a never-ending quest” and offered the example of a seagull searching for food in endless circles, even after it has already eaten. Edwin says, “When you stop learning is when you start dying, so keep learning.” Tune into the episode for many more incredible answers and insights.

If all of this inspires you to keep learning (and it should!), here’s a powerful piece of advice for you: surround yourself with people who you admire and who will challenge you to grow and thrive. When you change the people who you surround yourself with, you’ll rise to their level.

Listen in today to hear more about how you can grow into the person you have the potential to be, why we all have room for growth, the moving perspective that the incredible Bishop Charles Blake provides, why it’s so important to be selective about what you choose to learn, and much more. I look forward to continuing to walk along this path with you as you become the person you’re destined to be!

In This Episode:

[01:11] - Jevonnah introduces the topic of today’s episode and explains why she’s careful with the word “pro.”

[03:18] - We hear some of the responses that Jevonnah got to her question “are you a pro?”.

[05:59] - Even as we continue to reach new levels of success, none of us ever fully arrives. There’s always something else to learn. Jevonnah offers the example of getting open-heart surgery to illustrate this point.

[06:47] - Jevonnah advises listeners to get a coach if they don’t have one already, and talks about the importance of spending time with the right people.

[08:22] - Jevonnah shares more answers that people have shared to her question about learning and being a pro. She also addresses the importance of taking action.

[10:40] - We hear more powerful and inspirational responses from Jevonnah’s audience.

[12:27] - Jevonnah gives a shout-out to her bishop, Bishop Charles Blake of West Angeles Church.

[14:25] - We hear a saddening statistic that Jevonnah heard recently about how few people read books after they graduate high school.

[16:08] - Jevonnah talks about being selective about what you choose to learn.

[17:27] - We move onto a few final comments in response to Jevonnah’s question.

[18:34] - Something Jevonnah does is to schedule what she calls a “journal sabbath” on her calendar every Sunday after church.

[20:33] - Thanks for tuning into today’s show, and please don’t forget to subscribe to hear a new episode every week!

4. Lessons learned from my business journey

15m · Published 04 Sep 09:16

Now, today's podcast is super special and near and dear to my heart because about maybe two-and-a-half months ago, I sat down, had some quiet time, and just really began to write down some of my top lessons learned from my business journey.

In fact, it was on my birthday not too long ago. I began to write as I celebrated my birthday, I looked back on all the ways that God has protected, kept, comforted, and led me in the way that I should go.

I know that's so true for many of you listening.

For any level of success that we've been blessed to achieve, He enabled it. We can plant the seed, but it's up to Him to send the rain.

For my health, life, and strength, He gave it, and for my being, He made it.

I had to stop and pause and give Him glory for another year of life. He didn't have to do it, but I'm so glad He did.

With that being said, I just began to really think about some of my top lessons learned, and I'm going to share those with you today.

My hope, my prayer is you'd be able to take these, implement them in your own life, and really use them to your advantage.
