Beauty has NO limitations! Terri Bunch gives us tips and tricks on how she navigates the natural occurrences in aging in order to stay young and healthy!

1h 2m · Published 08 Jul 18:00

Terri Bunch is a pageant director, producer, coach, mentor and  judge as well as decades long competitor and a former titleholder in the Miss and Mrs divisions. Terri is the founder and Executive Director of the Miss Greater Southern California Pageant, a regional title which allows their titleholder to select a state or national pageant to advance to. The pageant is inclusive to young women of all ages ( 17 and up), sizes and ethnicities, as she believes beauty has no limitations. Terri is an event coordinator at her husbands' off road business and in her free time, loves water skiing, SCUBA diving and travel. She has been married to her husband, Jason, for 34 years and has two adult daughters, Taryn and Brittany, and a son in law, Robin.

What will you hear about on this episode:

*Being at your best at 40, 50, 60 and beyond! As we age, we get to know ourselves so much better! We are more fearless, more secure and if we stay 'current' and continue to grow, these years really are the best.

*How old is 'too old' to compete in pageants?

*Swimsuit Competition or no Swimsuit Competition? This debate rages on in the pageant world. I have my own feelings about it and there really is no right or wrong answer.

*Feminism in 2019--what does this mean? Have we really come that far? Does sexism still hold us back?

*Overcoming inevitable challenges as we age.How do we navigate the natural occurrences in aging in order to stay young and healthy?

Terri's Low Cal Shake off the pound smoothie:
16 oz UNSWEETENED cashew milk ( almond milk is ok too, as long as it’s the 25 calories per serving type);
1 scoop Muscle Milk protein powder, any flavor - IMPORTANT- 1 scoop is not one serving- 2 scoops are one serving- use just one scoop.
*Two tablespoons each golden flax seeds and chia seeds ( you can get these often at your regular grocery but also any nutritional market and also on Amazon)
*One handful goji berries ( you can get these on Amazon or any nutritional grocery market- we recommend the Terrasoul brand of goji berries)
*Add up to 14 ice cubes, slowly, in the blender until it reaches the thickness you prefer.
The shake has approximately 350 calories and 25-30 grams of protein.

58m · Published 02 Jul 05:00

In this episode, you will hear part of MY story as an intro to Soul in the Raw's Marina Yanay-Triner. Soul in the Raw is a whole food plant based recipe & education blog. Marina creates quick, easy, and delicious vegan recipes and blogs about the health benefits of a plant-based diet rich in fresh foods. The blog focuses on providing evidence-based nutrition information, which is then incorporated into delicious and totally irresistible meals for the whole family!

Marina's story:
Marina went vegan over 7 years ago, inspired by her mother's incredible healing story of reversing a crippling bladder disease. She has been able to reverse her own PMS symptoms and encourage emotional healing from trauma as a result of this transition. She is incredibly passionate about the vegan diet for human health, animal welfare, and the well-being of our planet, all of which she envisions as holistic and co-dependent.

What you will hear and learn in this episode

  • Marina's vegan story: how she went vegan 7 years ago inspired by her mother, and found a deep reasoning in the process (to heal from PTSD, to care for my body and give it love, and to care for our planet and the animals)
  • Secrets to succeeding on a vegan lifestyle: have a strong why, and always be prepared!
  • Meal prep as the best way to stay plant based (eat healthy and be an ethical vegan all at once), and my meal prep course, Vegan Meal Prep for Wellness, where I teach my unique vegan meal prep method https://courses.soulintheraw.com/p/vegan-meal-prep-for-wellness/

Overcoming Opioid Addiction and say YES to health and happiness!

44m · Published 12 Jun 14:00

Nicole Gearing is an International Beauty Queen, gorgeous, and married with 3 beautiful children. She has a glorious and blessed life. However, underneath all of the glitz and glam, there was pain and addiction. Nicole shares her story of success and overcoming addition so she can be as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.

Today, we will talk about:

1. Avoid chronic negative people.

2. Have firm and clear boundaries in all of your relationships with people.

3. Have clear and honest dialogue with everyone.
Don’t be afraid to communicate openly about how you feel.

4. Disconnect from someone who is negative and refuses to take personal responsibility.
TIME OUTS are very heathy and healing.

Self care is a must:

1. Do not isolate, know the difference between self care and isolation.

2. Allowing time to clear your head is good, reading, taking a class, taking up a hobby, praying, listening to God's direction!
Outdoor activities are very healthy and essential.

3. Staying indoors or in bed all day is isolation and can be harmful unless you are sick.

4. It is okay to take care of our mental health.  It is important to see a counselor if you feel you are stuck in a situation with no solution.
There is nothing wrong with reaching out at any time.

5. I really suggest a support group such as Celebrate Recovery.  Support groups are designed to be a safe place to share what is on your heart and also be heard while developing a new set of tools to cope.

6. Surround yourself with people who value what you say and feel.

7. Diet and exercise are so important for our mental heath.  We tend to take that fact for granted.  Getting enough rest is also important; you know your body, listen to it.

8. Practice loving on you and not being so hard on yourself, laugh and don’t take things to serious.  Life is short, enjoy every moment.

9. Have a conversation with God.  It is a life changer! It reduces stress and gives continual strength.

10. Have more fun, laugh often.
