Embracing Enough

by Dina Scippa

Embracing Enough is a podcast that showcases the stories of women and girls - unapologetically. Together, we explore the stories and experiences that influence our collective experience and what it takes to embrace the belief that we are enough, just as we are. From the most courageous moments to those that scare us, we muse about all of the different elements of our journey in order to accept ourselves just as we are.

It's Not Your Fault, But It Is Your Responsibility to Forgive

23m · Published 15 Jul 17:58

I am a big proponent of forgiving yourself, but I get how much easier it is said than done.

This week's episode unpacks how to get to a place where you can truly accept that things that have happened to you are not your fault; however it is your responsibility to forgive. And forgiveness always begins with yourself.

It can be difficult to stop faulting others for how their faults have impacted our lives, even after we may have moved on from something trauamatic. Forgiveness is all about choice, and at a certain point, we all come to a place where we ask ourselves, what are we choosing?

It’s not being selfish to consciously choose to forgive yourself, to do some inner reflection and learn from experiences. And it’s not selfish to forgive something or someone because the anger and pain is too heavy to bare. That’s the point.

Let this episode serve as a reminder to you that forgiveness is power AND recognize that forgiveness doesn't always look like what we thought it was going to look like.

Your Pain is Calling, You Gonna Answer?

24m · Published 08 Jul 14:55

In this week's episode, I'm unpacking how pain can be the best signal in the world that something needs to shift within you. I unpack how the tendency to lean into overachievement and always needing things to get done can keep us stuck in a vicious cycle of fatigue. I argue that it is this fatigue that keeps us disconnected from what our pain is really here to show us.

I dive into how affirming it can feel to embrace your pain and how to remind yourself that you aren't defined it. I remind you of the power of choice to take empowered action that allows you to celebrate the fullness of who you are without beat-up and judgment - just loving compassion. I invite you to celebrate who you are as a result of the pain and reflect on how it shaped you and even more, prepared you for who you are becoming.

Let this episode serve as a reminder to you that you can be anchored into your power AND make peace with previous versions of you that have been hurt by painful events. If pain is calling, it's time you answer.

The Next Generation of Changemakers

56m · Published 01 Jul 15:53

In this episode, Dina sits down with Jill Ellyn Riley, one of the authors of Living the Confidence Code (Harper Collins Publishers and a New York Times Best Seller). This heart-felt discussion will give you an inside look at what went into identifying the girls featured in this book and spotlights a few of the many inspiring ways girls around the globe are effecting change. While reflecting on each others' adolescence and what makes up our story, Dina and JillEllyn muse about their love of the power of storytelling. They reflect on how much we learn from the stories of the girls in the book and how we stand in awe of their bravery and resilience. Just like the book illustrates, the conversation illustrates that the best way to understand confidence and learn how to harness its secret powers is to see it in action for yourself. One thing is for sure is that this incredible conversation will have you asking yourself: "What would you like to do once you tap into your confidence?"

Sorry, Not Sorry

19m · Published 18 Jun 13:40

In this episode, Dina unpacks her intention for June - being unapologetic in all facets of life. As she reflects on her own tendency to overapologize, she looks into where it comes from, and why it's a seemingly easy habit to fall back on. Through this conversation, she encourages you to  recognize where your over-apologizing shows up; because it likely is in some shape or form. The more we recognize, the more we get to consciously work on it. Perhaps it can inspire you to stop apologizing for who are and even more importantly, who you are becoming.

Am I Enough if I Don't Have a Baby?

36m · Published 29 May 20:57

When I started thinking about the Enough Labs series on unpacking motherhood, I was really looking to bring into the conversation a topic that isn't talked about as much - and that’s infertility. I reached out to several people about considering being on the podcast to talk about their experience. But it IS something super personal and not everyone wants to speak on it, and I totally get it. I grappled with even trying to do an episode about such a loaded topic; and then I thought about the courage and authenticity that each of my guests brought to the conversation this month, and I said, the conversation about infertility has to be part of it as well.

The reality is that infertility is terribly common. In fact, one in eight couples (12 percent of women) in the US have trouble getting pregnant. That means, there’s a really good chance that someone you know is struggling with infertility – even if you’re not aware of it. And on the off chance that you've never met anyone who has struggled with infertility - you will in this episode. It's me.

In this episode, I unpack the emotional impact and toll that infertility takes on your self-esteem, on your marriage, and how you reconcile with coming to terms as to the real reasons of wanting a family. I also talk about the sense of grief, loss, and sadness associated with all of the experiences that come with pregnancy and motherhood - basically when all you feel is like you're being iced out of the mommy club. In this honest and brave look, I start to unpack the answer to the elusive question "Am I enough if I don't have a baby?"

Powerful Mama

53m · Published 20 May 14:15

This week, Dina sits down with Arivee Vargas, a mom of three and a certified life and high-performance coach for women professionals in fast-paced environments. Arivee and Dina reflect on what it was like growing up Latina in a small suburban town in Massachusetts, what it took to navigate the early days of motherhood while on the partner track in a law firm, and what it has looked like (and what it takes) to step into your calling powerfully.

As a big law lawyer years ago, Arivee lets us into her experience about the long hours and the typical challenges that go with a demanding high-pressure environment. She peeled back the curtain on her own journey where she shared how for years, work was her life and it was also her source for validation and self-worth. As she advanced further in her legal career, there as a little voice that kept asking: "Is this what you really want?" And then she had her son and that voice got louder. She took time to get clear on who she was and she wasn't; and even more, she clearer on what she wanted.

Today, Arivee helps other go-getter women get clear on their own truth and step into the life they really want; while supporting them to shift their mindset to overcome fear and limiting beliefs. For more information about Arivee, head to https://www.ariveevargas.com

Unexpected Mama

31m · Published 12 May 13:15

In this episode, Dina sits down with new friend and fellow writer Isabelle Fitzgerald about her "unexpected" journey into motherhood. Isabelle hails from New York City and lets us into what it's like to be a mother of three, embarking on an exciting journey as a writer, and what's more - shows us some of the less favorable topics about motherhood (like grief, anger and shame) that few people are courageous enough to talk about. Dina and Isabelle muse about how enoughness shows up in motherhood and how the hardest thing to do is to reconcile perfectionist tendencies. Isabelle has a poetic way to share what her unexpected path looked like and how she continues to show up bravely and unapologetically for all that it offers.
