Understanding the importance of conservation. A lesson taught by Peter Meyer, the Author and Director of The Boy From The Wild - available on Apple TV in 2021..

37m · Published 25 Jun 07:00

This week on EduKATE, I learn about wildlife conservation. I am joined Peter Meyer, who is an author and director of The Boy From The Wild. This tale started its legacy as an international bestselling book and was then adapted into a beautiful documentary, which will be available to stream on Apple TV this year. The story highlights the cultural and natural histories of South-African conservation and educates people about the importance of respecting wildlife.

In this episode of EduKATE, we discuss conservation, the importance of respecting animals (even if they're scary SSSssssnnakes... 👀), the transferrable lessons that humanity can learn from wild animals and (ofc) Tiger King.

38 mins - a perfect lunch-time listen if I may say so myself...

How do we dismantle rape culture in education? A practical and reflective lesson taught by activist Zan Moon

42m · Published 17 Jun 07:00

This week I am joined by the brilliant activist Zan Moon. Zan runs ‘defend her’, which is a campaign to end violence against women by sharing knowledge on self-defence and the campaign strives for legislative change within the school curriculum. Zan also runs ‘screengrabthem’, which is a movement that tackles rape culture in education - exposing online harassment, misogyny, coercion through picture evidence & tagging schools. In today’s lesson, we learn all about Zan’s journey so far into the murky waters of activism, discuss some of the key terms that uphold sexist ideologies in society, as well as talk in detail about how to advocate for practical and tangible change in both governmental and school policy.
