Bed Talks the Podcast

by WRG Media

Bed Talks was born from a belief that we grow through sharing our no bullshit stories around our experiences, struggles and what we learned from basically falling flat on our faces and getting up again. You can expect a mix of intimate conversations between our hosts Meg and Sabrina, interviews with mission-driven entrepreneurs and creatives and practical tools to help you put what you learn into practice because let’s be real, change requires action. Our goal is to inspire women to live to their full potential and feel empowered by their femininity and vulnerability through open dialogue about the things that matter to us most, topics that are often still taboo or even just overlooked in our everyday, hectic lives.Uncensored discussions covering everything from relationships, sex, body image, wellness, spirituality and anything else that inspires growth, self-reflection, and self-love. Every month we pick a topic, share our stories around it and invite experts to weigh in. Welcome to Bed Talks the Podcast

EP10: International Women’s Day: Reclaim Your Body and Celebrate Your Cycle with Stella Artuso

1h 7m · Published 09 Mar 00:45

To celebrate and honour the feminine for International Women’s Day we invited a very special guest, menstrual cycle educator and yoga instructor Stella Artuso, to share her story and wisdom on living in alignment with the cycles of nature as a reminder and testimony to just how magical and powerful women are.

Stella is a powerhouse of knowledge when it comes to our body’s rhythms, but she wasn’t always this connected and tuned into her internal guidance (that we all have and so often resist!). She opens up about her radical personal, professional and spiritual transformation that took 10 days of stillness at a meditation retreat and a lot of healing to rewrite past scripts and rework ingrained conditioning that had her stuck in a belief system that being feminine meant being weak. She takes us through her journey from living a life governed by her masculine with an identity defined by her Master’s in Public Health and dedication to NGO’s to where she is today; on a mission to shatter the taboo around bleeding and bring awareness to the gifts of our cycles.

Stella lights up when she talks about her Blood Magic workshop series which helps women understand the different phases of their cycles by teaching them “body literacy” (love that!) so they are empowered to make decisions about what’s needed to support their body through internal reflection, food choices, lifestyle, exercise, boundaries and so much more. And it wouldn’t be a Bed Talks episode without diving into shadow work; we chat about the practice of looking at your personal period story and unpacking ancestral trauma and stigmas. There is so much work to do in the world when it comes to the greater understanding and equal treatment of women but we believe it truly starts by re-working the relationship we have with ourselves and our own bodies. Stella leads the helm with grace. Without shifting the work she was providing for thousands of others onto herself, she would not be the force she is today; still in a state of service, but now fueled by the heart, stronger than ever, and ready to take on the world.

This episode is the tip of the iceberg of a theme we feel passionately about, one that will inspire you to tune into your cycle in a new way to empower you at every stage, rather than victimizing you to your hormones. Feel free to share this podcast with someone who might appreciate the message and thanks so much for being part of our community.

Enjoy!

EP09: Feminine Cycles, Depression and Fertility with Meg and Sabrina

1h 2m · Published 24 Feb 09:00

We talk periods in this episode and get into the magic of cycles and the ability to create and carry life. Sabrina acknowledged a challenging time in her life by sharing her experience with antidepressants for PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) and how she’s grown to manage her symptoms in a more natural way by shifting her lifestyle and learning to embrace the gifts in each phase.

Meg shares her story around pursuing the option of motherhood and the steps she’s taken towards freezing her eggs; her frank observations and perspective on the procedure and protocols within the medical system, and her raw emotions around what she’s experienced so far.

Both Meg and Sabrina’s experiences highlight how important it is to curate your own path within the medical system and do what’s right for you which takes trusting your intuition and remaining connected to your body within any kind of medical procedure or intervention.

This episode is a call to be compassionate with yourself (your present and past self!) and the people around you. Everyone has a story and most of them aren’t visible. A pillar of the Bed Talks mission is that no one has to do it alone. We share our stories with our listeners so we can lift the veil of shame around topics that are all too normal to not talk about (mental health and fertility!).

An episode that will inspire you to think about how you frame your period, what it means to be a woman and how we can embrace the cycles of life. We touch on a lot of themes we can’t wait to come back to. Feel free to share this podcast with someone who might appreciate the message and thanks so much for being part of our community.

Enjoy!

EP08: Erotic Empathy and Sexual Confidence with Psychotherapist Amanda Luterman

1h 30m · Published 10 Feb 23:00

We invited Amanda Luterman, psychotherapist with a special interest in sexuality, to take a break from her busy private practice to come chat with us for a Bed Talks Valentine’s episode about erotic confidence and expressing our sexual natures. This Columbia graduate with an MA, MEd in counselling psychology definitely has a knack for talking comfortably around taboo topics, and brings light to very normal, yet often shamed experiences and fears that come up for many of us.

A fascinating take on sexuality from a pro, Amanda introduces us to many new concepts like erotic empathy, autophilia and sexual social capital. We talk about communication and unblocking our throat chakras and the importance of feeling safe with a sexual partner. We share stories about self-betrayal, honouring your body, power dynamics, and how fear and shame manifest in your body and create disconnects that will deeply affect your physical, emotional and mental well-being.

Our longest episode yet (!) Amanda gives us tons of food for thought around topics we can’t wait to explore further. We want this episode to leave you feeling curious and inspired to connect with yourself and explore eroticism through this more compassionate lens, keeping you on your path towards empowerment and fulfillment. We have a good feeling it will encourage a new perspective and personal growth within any new or existing relationships you have.

Enjoy! And feel free to share this podcast with someone who might appreciate the message.

EP06: Social Change and Divine Storms with Danijo

1h 10m · Published 13 Jan 23:00

Danijo’s divine storm struck when she was 23, unemployed and pregnant. For most, overwhelming. For Dani, an opportunity to step into alignment, pursue her passion and launch her first business platform. Through her deeply rooted faith, commitment to self-work, and trusting her internal guidance, she faced her truth and overcame the self-limiting beliefs she established as a child to start creating a more intentional life. Growing up in a predominantly white environment, she internalized the belief that just showing up as herself wasn’t enough, which led to years of overcompensating to prove (to herself) that she deserved to be where she was. She shares how she turned her struggles with belonging into her greatest asset and how she learned to set boundaries and step into her worth in order to fulfill her mission of uniting people from all walks of life to have the important conversations we need to create social change. There is no small-talk with Danijo. This badass mom on a mission gets vulnerable and shares tons of wisdom on the importance of self-reflection, role models, community and conversation in this episode about living a conscious, purpose driven life.

Enjoy!

Meg explores the wonders of the body and shares how her experience of tapping into her senses has allowed her to connect with herself and live a conscious life.

EP04: Leaps of Faith and personal style with Andrea Lombardi

54m · Published 16 Dec 22:00

On today’s episode, Meg and Sabrina chat with self-made boss babe Andrea Lombardi who left her steady job as a fashion professional to take a leap of faith into the unknown, starting with a one-way ticket to Italy. They get to know her career path and how she navigated the corporate world while maintaining her authenticity and individuality within an environment that can often feel constraining and homogenous. Andrea was never handed anything but moved up by learning how to play to her strengths, like tapping into her strong work ethic and not thinking she was above any task (keeping that ego in check, preach!). Her superpower? Just get it done.

But at a certain point she had to ask herself, at what cost? Her career, though impressive, was becoming increasingly soul-sucking – which brought us to our chats about self-love. She has always been a natural hard-worker, but never applied that work ethic onto herself. And man did she have to work hard to get past a lifetime of pre-programmed self-doubt to learn how to listen to her heart’s inner knowing and step into her real worth.

We get into the tools and practices that have lifted her up and guided her during this awakening process such as a supportive community, therapy (amen!), and the power of journaling. Even though she’s worked her butt off her whole life, she still battles with that inner voice of deservingness; am I allowed to just take a trip for me? (Sound familiar?).

Take it from Andrea, work with what you got ladies and be YOU! (and whatever it is you want, work hard to get it!).

Enjoy!

Here are some books that have inspired and supported Andrea throughout her journey:

·     Thrive by Arianna Huffington

·     Focal Point by Brian Tracy

·     Principles by Ray Dalio

EP03: Stepping outside your comfort zone with Meg and Sabrina

42m · Published 02 Dec 19:30

Without knowing it, Meg and Sabrina experienced very similar dating scenarios that took them from Montreal to New York City and California. On today’s episode they share some intimate stories about stepping outside their comfort zones and the lessons they learned from ignoring red flags and sacrificing their inner knowing for their thirst for adventure.

Hear Sabrina's first dating experience after giving up drinking and learn how the Phantom of the Opera rescued Meg. These experiences taught them how important it is to honour themselves and their boundaries and to not be scared of asking questions. Lured by the shine of travel, romance and adventure, they both struggled with the projection of distorted versions of who they are and learnt the hard way of the importance of honouring your values, boundaries and truth.

The harsh reality is, when you jump off a cliff, someone isn’t always there to catch you; but by incorporating self-love tools you can catch yourself. The most important thing you can pack on your adventures? Your emotional safety net (we talk more on that in the episode!)

EP02: Feminine Power, Pole Dancing and PhD’s with Sonja Sloane

53m · Published 18 Nov 21:45

In today’s episode, we interview brilliant pole dancer Sonja Sloane who has a Ph.D. in art history and feminist theory (and being a badass if it were up to us). Her pursuit of academia and pole gets us talking about the dualities and stigmas that all women face when it comes to the different facets of the feminine and how we can often feel constrained by social norms and expectations. At Bed Talks we say, refuse to choose! From punishing herself and driving her body into the ground through fitness to how she found herself through her dance practice is just one of the self-love transformations we get into. You will feel her strength and power through her words which we’re certain will lift you up. “Don’t diminish yourself. When you make yourself smaller than you are, you are repeating and reproducing that very construct that is oppressing us.” Sonja Sloane’s way of life? Checking in with herself on a regular basis and practicing the type of person she wants to become. How does she make it sound so easy! A deep and inspiring interview that will get you thinking about your own beliefs around sexuality and self-expression. Enjoy!
