About Andrea::

Andrea Westerlund is a content creation junkie and owner of Freak Flag Marketing. She offers content strategy coaching and management to creative business owners who just want to be themselves online. After 12+ years creating content for organizations — from fundraising to animal rights to IT — she finally made the leap in 2022 to pursue her dream of being a full-time entrepreneur. In her “spare time” she’s also the founder and editor of a print magazine called Flower Power Magazine, in honor of her home city Rochester (aka the Flower City). She marches to the beat of her own drum and wants to help as many other women do the same. Be loud. Be proud. Be a freak!

E6: Shouldn't this be fun?

17m · Published 20 Dec 11:18

so many of my goals, at the point at which I set them, sounded SO FUN. Yet when i started working towards them, the feelings that came up were the OPPOSITE of that! (sound familiar?)

This episode is about the very real struggle that a lot of women have, myself included sometimes, to have fun on our journey....

Touching upon the societal conditioning of women to always be productive (hindering our ability to have fun) and of course talking about my own journey and struggles with bringing fun into my life more…

About Maggie:

Maggie is a scientist turned perfectionism expert, who's passion is helping others stop letting perfectionism rule their lives.  For years she let perfectionism rule her own life, by pursuing endless degrees because that's what others expected her to do, by always being the most helpful friend and employee because her whole self-worth was driven by intense people pleasing, by feeling like she wasn't good enough yet and had to keep proving herself.  Then she realized that all these thoughts, feelings and behaviours were driven by her perfectionist mindset, and that was something she could work on.  She became obsessed with learning about tools and strategies to shift away from a perfectionism-driven mindset into one that would help her live a more authentic, enjoyable life.  And now she helps other women do the same.  Through sharing her journey on social media, providing free resources specifically for perfectionists to offering private coaching and courses customized to her clients needs, Maggie helps other overachieving perfectionists take back the reins, and stop letting perfectionism rule their lives.

What we talked about in this episode:

- what is perfectionism & what drives it?

- the hustle, burnout & then flip to avoid/procrastination tendency

- good things about being a perfectionist

- Maggie’s successes & how being a perfectionist shaped this:

people pleasing & living life based on others expectations
growth mindset

- Maggie’s haunting failure:

being honest with yourself
never feeling success vs failing
repercussions of failure
resilience, motivation & moving forward
the effect of this on maggies fear of failure & what failure means about her

- What Maggie’s working on now:
