Ep 24 - Taking Responsibility

14m · Published 24 Oct 13:13

Choosing to blame others as the response to a situation, means that you are degrading yourself.

You see, when we continuously blame others it can reinforce a negative self-image. It suggests that we view ourselves as a victim rather than someone who is in control of their life and who has the ability and power to make choices.

Blaming others can serve as a way to avoid facing uncomfortable truths about ourselves and our actions. It can be a form of escapism that hinders personal development.

So if you constantly hear yourself saying things like, "it's not my fault", then you may be suffering a lack of personal responsibility - also known as blaming others.

By doing this you are distancing yourself from your problems, allowing yourself to play the victim and worst of all, keeping yourself stuck.

Responsibility requires us to meet our obligations and fulfill our duties.

At some point in our lives we all engage in blame, especially when faced with challenging situations. However, if blaming others becomes a chronic pattern in our behaviour and negatively impacts our life, then that needs to change, or we're destined to keep repeating the same mistakes, and giving away our power.

Taking responsibility for our actions and choices is a powerful and crucial step towards personal growth and well-being.

Ep 23 - Managing Your Mind

15m · Published 12 Oct 18:28

If there's one thing I've learned in my life, it's that managing your thoughts is the ultimate game-changer for life, for business, for relationships…

Seriously, it's like having the control panel of your mind right there in your hands.

Because here's the truth: if you're not actively taking charge of your thoughts, then they are taking charge of you. And let me tell you, that's a slippery slope to feeling fed up, out of control and disconnected from the life that you truly desire.

Picture this: every thought you entertain is like a seed you plant in the garden of your mind. And those thoughts? They determine what grows in your life.

It's a simple equation: our thoughts shape our reality. They mould who you are, what you do, and what you can achieve, and they also control how you feel. So, in the words of Henry Ford: whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right.

But here's the kicker: most of us let our thoughts run wild on autopilot, and guess what? The default setting tends to be negative. Trust me, I've been there - in my 20s, I had no clue about the power of managing my thoughts. It was like being caught in a whirlwind, with thoughts just happening to me, leaving me feeling lost and unfulfilled.

Goals? I didn't even know what they were at that time. But let me tell you, all of that changed when I learnt about the tremendous power of managing your thoughts.

Nowadays, my conscious mind is on a mission of optimism and productivity. I've got a toolbox full of affirmations, visualisations, and positive thoughts that I use every single day. It's not always smooth sailing, though. Random thoughts still pop into my head, and I'm sure you can relate.

Ep 22 - The Discipline Identity

18m · Published 03 Oct 15:54

Woody Allen said, "The only thing standing between greatness and me, is me."

We all have excuses - in fact I am the queen of excuses.

Didn’t go to the gym? I needed the lie in.

Didn't do that networking event? I had to stay in and catch up on some programs.

Ate too much? I was 'treating myself' (for the 6th day this week)

Forget about motivation- there is only one thing that is going to get you to your goals and that’s discipline.

Contrary to popular opinion: Discipline is in fact freedom.

In the words of Jim Rohn “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments."

The best version of you is the disciplined version of you, it’s the version that does the things you don’t feel like doing regardless of how you feel in the moment.

Discipline doesn’t hit snooze, discipline is never too tired, discipline doesn’t skip workouts, discipline measures progress, discipline shows up, discipline keeps its commitments, discipline is persistent and unbeatable.

When we hear the word 'discipline' it may conjure up images of soldiers and drill sergeants, many people mistakenly think that discipline is an unyielding force that crushes spontaneity or drains the joy out of life.

But in reality, it's more like an empowering compass that guides us towards our aspirations.

Discipline allows us to shape our days intentionally. It's not about rigidly adhering to a set of rules; rather, it's a tool that helps us make conscious choices that are aligned with our goals.

Ep 21 - The Comfort Zone Fallacy

11m · Published 04 Sep 06:29

It's funny how we often wrap ourselves in the warm, cozy blanket of our comfort zones, believing that it's our safe haven. But what if I told you that what you perceive as a comfort zone is actually just a cunning mirage and doesn't really exist?

What am I talking about? Well, I've been banging on about how we must get out of our 'comfort zones' for years.

Yes, my friends, the so-called "comfort zone" is nothing more than an attachment to familiarity that's keeping us stuck.

When I was 14 I went into the first year of my GCSEs - General Certificate of Secondary Education - these are 2 year courses in the UK that all school kids do between the ages of 14 and 16. You have to do mandatory subjects like English, Maths, Science, etc.

I remember walking into my favourite Biology teachers class and she said something that blew my mind, she said: "I want you to forget everything we've taught you up until now, that was all a lie".

WHAT? Our teachers had been lying?

Not quite. Our teacher went on to explain that basically they had over simplified their teachings until now, and that we needed to forget all of that because they were going to give us the 'warts and all' version.

Ep 20 - 2 Years Alcohol Free

16m · Published 30 Aug 05:09

On August 21 2021 - 2 years ago at the age of 40 - I stopped drinking.

I didn't put a time limit on it like I had done in the past, I literally just said to myself, "let's see what's possible".

In today's episode I talk about my journey to giving up alcohol and how it took my a few years of the odd week and the odd month off the booze here and there and I also talk about how you don't have to hit rock bottom before you decide to stop. I discuss how perimenopause and HRT affected my efforts and I also tell you how two outstanding questions can change your life.

Ep 19 - Failing to Win

10m · Published 21 Aug 10:30

I've spoken a lot about discomfort and how it's great to get out of your comfort zone, but there are occasions when we get this feeling and this experience of discomfort, and we have no idea of the impact that it will have later in our lives.

When I was 18, I went on holiday for the first time. I flew 4 hours from the UK to the island of Rhodes in Greece with my boyfriend and 21 one friends to celebrate our friends honeymoon - a bit unusual I know, but the couple in question already had one child and another on the way and they really wanted to celebrate with friends and family - and so ready-made babysitters - pretty clever if you ask me.

So here I was in a foreign country for the first time - almost everyone we met spoke English and I was with people that I knew and loved and felt horrible! I felt massively homesick to the point where I wanted to cry. I had this feeling, this knowing if you will, that traveling abroad was not for me.

Don't get me wrong, Greece was lovely, and the people couldn't have been more welcoming, but I just felt so miserable at being away from my parents, and my other friends, and everyone and everything that I knew.

At that moment, I was adamant that I did not like going abroad.

I'd always been an extrovert - no surprises there - so the life of a loud and outgoing holiday rep appealed to me, and despite having never been on one of their holidays, I applied to Club 18-30 which as it turns out was the most outgoing, loud and wild holiday company there was - as proven by both my own experiences and tv program "Clubreps" that followed during the subsequent years.

Ep 18 - Growth Mindset & Education

16m · Published 29 Jul 00:15

Today we are going to talk about learning, formal education, mindset and about how war shaped the world wide school system!

When we are young we naturally do hard things: learning to walk, speaking in your mother tongue, and if you're in a developed country then almost 100% of us will be lucky enough to get a formal education by attending primary and secondary school to learn reading, writing, maths and science, etc, but as we get older we start to do less and less learning in a formal environment.

After you learn to drive and you pass your test, or after you finish secondary  school, then the percentage of people that stick with formal education of some sort and enrol in college or university drops to between 38% in the UK, to 50% and 61% in Australia and America respectively.

The numbers for apprenticeships or trade courses are even less.

So, why do we stop learning?

And more importantly, why do we have teachers and educators for things like algebra, English literature and physical education, but we don't have people to teach us essential life skills?

Ep 17 - Age Does Not Matter

13m · Published 05 Jul 23:03

Age is just a number - you that you can achieving anything at any age.

If you've got a dream or a goal that you want to achieve, but you're  thinking "I'm too young, too old…", then I'm here to tell you that you are wrong!

In a world that often places arbitrary limitations on what can be accomplished at different stages of life, it's crucial that you don't get bogged down in these preconceived notions and stereotypes.

Age should never be a barrier to pursuing your dreams, achieving your goals and stepping into your greatness. Whether you're young or on the more mature side, there is no expiration date on your potential.

Age truly doesn't matter - you can defy societal expectations and your own limiting beliefs to achieve anything at any age.

Ep 16 - Creating Change - Transformation 28

18m · Published 08 Jun 09:30

I didn't consciously create change in my life until I was in my 30s. Don't get me wrong, I'd move jobs and cities, leave relationships, but all of this was done in silos, without any real strategy or game plan.

So what changed? I did! I started reading books on personal development, listening to podcasts, attending seminars and hiring coaches of my own. I literally spent thousands of dollars on upskilling myself.

In this episode we talk about change - I also talk you through the new course - Transformation 28.
