Change Your Brain, Change Your Life

1h 14m · Published 06 Jan 01:38

If you listen to only 1 podcast episode this year let this one be it.  This might be my most favourite conversation yet. I’m speaking with Nancy Sokol Green who is the founder and executive director of a global education program called Brain Highways. She is also the author of book called Connection mode - How to Change Your Brain For A Better Life, which as far as I’m concerned should be required reading for everyone.

Todays conversation is about how limiting beliefs, negative thoughts and bad habits can keep us stuck as a result of patterns in our nervous system. Nancys work shows that we have the power to shift these patterns to create the life we want to live. This is an especially important episode if you you’re in the process of creating some thing new in your life and feeling stuck or finding yourself facing fears and doubts about what’s possible.  I know you are going to love this episode as much as I do.

Nancy Sokol Green is a former classroom teacher, teacher trainer, and author of innovative educational programs used in schools nationwide. In 1999, she created and implemented Brain Highways in the public schools, which has since evolved into the international Brain Highways Global program.

How People Pleasing Keeps You Stuck

58m · Published 19 Dec 20:24

I am a recovering people pleaser. I spent most of my life living by a list of shoulds and the expectations of others. I checked all the boxes of being a good wife, mother, employee, daughter, sister... you name it. I never stopped to consider what I actually wanted; what was important to me. And well, we know how that turned out... hello divorced, unhappy, burnt out corporate executive. I know I am not alone in this because I hear this story from women all the time.

This week on the podcast I talk with Amy Green Smith who is a Hypnotist and NLP coach who specializes in helping people break free of people pleasing to live happier, more fulfilled lives. We talk in depth about why we do it, how it keeps us stressed out, stuck and unhappy as well as practical tools and strategies that can help us live our most authentic lives.

Creating A Win-Win Divorce

42m · Published 08 Dec 02:35

Today on the podcast were chatting about resolving conflict and in particular we are talking about divorce.

If you have been through, or are going through the process of divorce you know that its probably one of the most difficult and contentious conflicts we will have to face in our lives.

Todays guest is Kim Korven, a former lawyer, judge and self proclaimed conflict avoider turned conflict mediator/consultant. While Kims work helps families navigate all kind of conflict we dig deep into divorce on this episode.

Having stepped away  from the legal processes of conflict and divorce Kim has developed a people first approach to helping people navigate difficult situations with the goal of creating win-win scenarios for everyone involved.

This is an insightful episode that will leave you many Aha’s and hopefully some useful tools and resources that may be of use before during and after your divorce or any other family conflict.

If you look at the stats of how women fair in retirement compared to men, it's not pretty.  There are many reasons for this but one of the most important is that we haven’t taken the lead role in our own money story. Today’s episode is an inspiring story about following your heart even when it doesn’t quite make sense.  Genevieve Piturro walked away from a very successful career as a television marketing executive to found a national non-profit organization called Pajama Program to make sure that all children living in shelters had pajamas and books so that they could experience, if even for a night, her favorite childhood memory of pajama and story time.

A Millennial Perspective on Midlife

44m · Published 13 Oct 16:49

Todays episode is a very personal one. In fact I’m kinda having a it of a vulnerability hangover about sharing it.

I interview my millennial daughter Stephanie about her perspective on midlife after having had a front row seat to my midlife reinvention journey.  She shares her experience of watching my highs and lows, the changes she’s noticed along the way, how it has impacted her and how she now thinks about her midlife chapter.

In spite of my resistance I’m sharing this episode because so often I talk about how our generation of midlife women is on the leading edge of the change of the cultural narrative and how we show up for ourselves will impact the midlife experience of future generations.

And as a little personal review the episode, the last half is sooooo good.

From Default Life to Inspired Future

42m · Published 03 Oct 20:06

Todays episode is an inspiring midlife reinvention story.

All too often we get stuck living what todays guest calls the “default life”, going through the motions of a life that happened to us rather than consciously choosing it. After loosing her brother in 9/11, suffering through a difficult marriage and a high stress job on Wall Street Mary Kay Duffy knew in her heart that she had to make some different choices for her life.

Taking the road less travelled, listening to her inner nudges and learning to trust herself led her to  leaving the default life and growing a multi million dollar cosmetics business.  We talk about creating your inspired future through trust and belief - in yourself, in something bigger than you and in possibility. This story is as heartwarming as it inspirational.
