With Tiffany Callahan- It's Okay to Grieve an Expectation

54m · Published 19 May 11:00

Hi hello & welcome to Behindleweyes The Podcast, where we are transparently chatting about the messy parts of life in order to help those who are silently struggling with similar things, feel seen & heard.

In today's episode, I am joined by my friend, Tiffany Callahan, who is a creative strategist, host of The Drinks After Work Podcast, a mom and truly one powerhouse of a woman! Tiff and I are podcast BFFs where we are constantly cheering each other on, chatting on the back end all day long and I often have to stop in my tracks and remind myself that Tiff has a child!

She immediately expresses gratitude for the village that surrounds her, helping with her 6 month old boy. It truly does take a village. Tiffany also exceeds in compartmentalizing the different facets of her life- mom life, full time work for a startup, podcast host, wife, friend, daughter, etc. She's able to devote different aspects of herself to the different aspects of her life. When Tiff is in mom mode, Tiff is full force in mom mode and nothing else.

Tiff gets vulnerable about her experiences with postpartum anxiety and how much it consumed her immediately after the birth of her son. We get to hear about her pregnancy journey, specifically with her gestational diabetes, and she then goes into telling us her birth story, which I know my listeners will appreciate.

It's refreshing to hear all these stories of my guests, in order to help those who could be struggling in silence, having a similar story and experiences- it makes them feel seen and heard and it's so important during this special and important and fragile time of your life, to know you're not alone in dealing with these different things.

I give Tiff, and all my other guests, a lot of credit for getting so vulnerable with me because while I can;'t relate personally, I can understand some of these things, aren't easy to talk about.

In Tiff's case, she had to be induced, her epidural failed, she was in a lot of pain, for an extended period of time- 36 hours. Opted for a C-section, had to be put under general anesthesia and was not awake for the birth of her son; husband wasn't in the room and Tiffany wasn't able to meet her son until she woke up after surgery.

Similarly to my previous episode with Stef, Tiffany didn't feel an immediate connection with her son. And in making this connection, you have to wonder if having the C-section directly correlates to these feelings.

We also chat about Tiff's experiences with postpartum anxiety; how this affected her and what she was able to do to overcome these different feelings, amongst having her first born during the pandemic.

Tune into today's episode to hear about the struggles Tiff had whilst being pregnant, the things she didn't enjoy about being pregnant and a hysterical gender reveal mix up that I'm sure her family will laugh about for years!

With Stefanie- It's Okay To Ask For Help

1h 3m · Published 12 May 09:00

Hi hello & welcome to Behindleweyes The Podcast, where we are transparently chatting about the messy parts of life in order to help those who are silently struggling with similar things, feel seen & heard.

In today's episode, I am joined by my friend Stefanie, to chat about motherhood and all things postpartum , including anxiety and depression. We also touch on turning 30 and how we both feel about the exciting milestone and how Lauren is finally experiencing a little bit of baby fever.

Stefanie gets vulnerable about her breastfeeding journey and how she struggled with having an oversupply of breast milk and how the overabundance weighed on her physical and mental health. She felt as though she was running on fumes and it wasn't until her lactation consultant heard her struggles with what she was going through, and validated her decision to stop breastfeeding after a month of absolute exhaustion.

The pressure that mother's endure surrounding breastfeeding is so unfair. It's so hard, even with a supply; it hurts and it's an added layer that we assume is natural and easy, because society has conditioned us to think this way.

As first time moms, it's so easy to feel alone. There seems to be a lack of education in what exactly our bodies are going through and what exactly goes into being a mother. We can blame our middle school health classes, for know knowing or expecting what exactly is happening to our bodies during pregnancy and after giving birth.

It's so important for mothers like Stefanie, to share their stories during pregnancy, giving birth, but most importantly, what's going on with your body after giving birth. Because sometimes, the people around us, make it seem like it's easy. Some who might be experiencing the "baby blues" and postpartum anxiety and postpartum depression, are forced to feel like there's something wrong with them,  not realizing that others are feeling the exact same way.

Stefanie also gets vulnerable (and again, thank you for sharing your story, Stef) about sleep deprivation, mental struggles, crying it out, seeking therapy and medical attention, questioning your role as a mother/parent, lack of immediate bond, advocating for yourself, mom support groups, asking for help, the terrible twos and so much more.

We wrapped today's episode up with a fun Taylor Swift segment! We each drafted our ultimate Top 10 Taylor Swift songs! Be sure to listen for lots of laughs!

With Megan Clokey- There Is Power To Your Story

1h 0m · Published 06 May 01:00

Hi hello & welcome to Behindleweyes The Podcast, where we are transparently chatting about the messy parts of life in order to help those who are silently struggling with similar things, feel seen & heard.

In today's episode, I am joined by my friend, Megan Clokey. Megan is a mom, a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach. She is the co-founder of girls guide and she advocates for pregnancy loss awareness and postpartum care.

As a quick trigger warning for this episode, we do chat about miscarriage and Megan's experience in pregnancy after loss.

Megan tells her story in a very raw and vulnerable way, as she truly believes there is power in sharing your story. We don't talk about these things enough, what happens after a miscarriage, more specifically, what happens and how someone might feel becoming pregnant after a loss.

We chat about her trials and tribulations being a new mom, in what feels like a world lacking in useful information for first time mothers. From what happens to our bodies, to our sleep cycles, or should I say lack there of- we cover all the nitty gritty details in this episode.

Megan also tells us about her journey into pre & post natal care, and how she seeks to specialize in pelvic floor care.

BONUS! Alcohol Was Hindering My Bloom

27m · Published 03 May 09:00

Hi hello & welcome to Behindleweyes The Podcast where we are transparently chatting about the messy parts of life in order to help those who are silently struggling with similar things, feel seen & heard.

In today's episode, our first solo episode in a whole month, I just wanted to let you guys know what's going on in my personal life, a lot of exciting things happening, and wanted to give an update of what's happening on the pod for the month of May!

May is postpartum awareness month and we have 4 special guests coming on to the pod to talk about their journies with motherhood, postpartum, etc. Giving moms an opportunity to share their story in a way to help those who could be silently struggling with similar things, feel seen & heard. So I hope you enjoy May's theme!

30 has been really great to me! I can finally, officially tell you guys that I am being promoted. As you know, I was recently transferred to the North Shore of Massachusetts, after having been stationed, some days, over an hour away from where I live. I highly value the 11 years that I've spent with the company I'm with. So it was really discouraging the past couple years, feeling so burned out. Because normally I have a very strong work ethic. It's why I love the podcast hustle, and why I think I'm able to make it work while working full time, because I have the will to do so, to make it work.

I got the call that I was getting the position and felt so incredibly proud of myself! Because I had worked really hard for the position! So moving forward, I'll be working in southern New Hampshire and I truly love it. It feels new, it feels challenging and I really love that stuff, I love being out of my comfort zone!

Although this promotion is occupying a lot of my time lately, the podcast is still going strong. We've had some really amazing guests the past few weeks so make sure to check back on those!

Another thing I talk a lot about in this episode, is 10 months without alcohol! Which is such a wild concept to me. I wasn't sure I'd actually get this far. 300 days is a long time! I'm super proud of myself because it hasn't been easy in the very least. There have been a few times where I've questioned my sobriety.

My WHY has been so important for me to hold on to. The holidays were a really hard time for me and when the whether switched from winter to spring; wanting a cold beer or a patio drink or a spiked seltzer. Alcohol-free options really help me! I understand those who are in recovery may not be able to drink alcohol free products.

I have successfully fought every urge that I've had to drink and it always goes back to that original why. I go a little bit deeper in this episode than I have in the past; I take pride in my sobriety. I'm very proud of the will I have to stick to something that feels right in my gut. When I stopped drinking, I had made the decision that I was never going to drink again.

I was listening to a podcast recently where Trent Shelton was talking about making the decision to just be better. It all starts with us. No one else can make you do anything. It has to start with you. He used the analogy of burning that bridge behind you, leaving that old life behind. I don't have room in my life for alcohol so that was a bridge I made the decision to burn.

I go into detail about the things that have helped me the most: surrounding myself with other people who also don't drink, changing environmental variables around me, in order to live into the higher version of myself I know I'm meant to live, and having conversations with those closest to me so they are able to understand WHY I'm alcohol-free.

With Gigi of Fashology- Harnessing Your Magic Through The Way You Dress

47m · Published 28 Apr 11:00

Hi hello & welcome to Behindleweyes The Podcast where we are transparently chatting about the messy parts of life in order to help those who are silently struggling with similar things, feel seen & heard.

In today's episode, I am joined by my friend Gigi of Fashology, whose mission is to empower women to harness their magic through the way they dress. Fashology is an online boutique, a blog, and offers styling services.

Gigi and I caught up like the old friends that we are; we talked about how WE met, how she met her husband, my cousin, and some of the crazy shenanigans we used to get into! We are much more reformed now, Gigi has a baby on the way and is launching her online clothing boutique MAY 7!

We chat about how important it is to buy clothes that fit you, and not worry about fitting into clothes. How sizing and numbers, are fabricated out of thin air, how different fabrics will fit different, and how a number absolutely does not define your worth.

We cover everything in this episode from the trails and tribulations of coordinating a clothing launch to what it means to dress to empower.

With Maddie Albano- Get Vulnerable; Always Share What You’re Going Through

44m · Published 07 Apr 09:00

Hi hello & welcome to Behindleweyes The Podcast where we are transparently chatting about the messy parts of life in order to help those who are silently struggling with similar things, feel seen & heard.

Today I am joined by, Maddie Albano. She is a SoulCycle enthusiast and an animal lover here to chat with us about how she's overcome her struggles with eczema.

Maddie gets vulnerable with us and shares her negative experiences with eczema her entire life. But not before we swoon over/nerd out over the nostalgia that SoulCycle Outside has. The two of us avid riders at home, we both look forward to the light at the end of the tunnel as we enter warmer months and are able to ride outside in the very near future!

Based in Boston, Maddie has struggled with eczema her whole life. And this past year, these struggles had put her in a very dark and depressive state in the dead of quarantine last summer. She explains how helpless she felt, who she was able to lean on during these tough times, and more importantly, the medication that finally brought her a sense of relief months later.

Tune in to here how badly Maddie was feeling and how she was able to overcome this dark season of her life. We also get into a really great back & forth about how society feels fulling transitioned into COVID life and we wonder just what it will take for us all the transition back. As a majority of us humans, may not be susceptible to change.

With Kristin Labek- Start With Yourself, Believe It First

34m · Published 07 Apr 09:00

Hi hello & welcome to Behindleweyes The Podcast where we are transparently chatting about the messy parts of life in order to help those who are silently struggling with similar things, feel seen & heard.

Today I'm joined by my friend, Kristin, of @boozeless. She's actually been a huge inspiration in my decision to quit the sauce. Kristen is everyone's sober BFF. She's boozeless for the health of it, a healthy hair guru, and an Instagram expert.

Kristin and I dive deep into each of our relationships with alcohol, how and when we decided to quit drinking, and the trials and tribulations throughout each of our journies.

Kristin, from Worcester MA, has been sober for 5 years, since 2016. When she stopped drinking, she was married at the time and her last drink was at Disney on her one (and only) wedding anniversary. She felt miserable in her life and new she needed to stop drinking.

We chat about the differences between not drinking and then being an active non-drinker. One is the goal and the other is all the work put into this kind of journey. And not an easy journey by any means but when we are putting the work and the effort into bettering ourselves in any which way, that's where your own personal growth is going to happen.

Tune in to today's episode to hear all kinds of stories between the two of us from skiing for the first time, to the kinds of activities the two of us can now enjoy without alcohol holding us back, to just not feeling like we're living on auto pilot anymore.

You can find Kristin at https://www.instagram.com/boozeless/ on instagram. She just launched a brand new program, PARTY ON PAUSE. Be sure to head on over to her instagram to learn more!
