Finding Your Purpose Through Intentional Living - Cait Flanders on Mental Health, Living Life on Your Terms, Her Latest Book, & More

1h 5m · Published 04 Mar 13:28

Back in October of 2020, I got the chance to sit down with Wall Street Journal bestselling author, Cait Flanders, over Skype & discuss personal struggles, financial lessons, topics surrounding minimalism, mindful consumption, & overall: lessons on how to live life the way that you want, rather than living life on others’ terms.

Cait is the author of one of my all-time favorite books, “The Year of Less”, where she talks all about her experience with taking a whole year to buy as little as possible, paying off almost $30,000 in debt because of all the money she’d been able to set-aside, & all that she learned about herself through that life-altering personal experiment-- including a new-found love for minimalism.

Her book, “The Year of Less”, since its release in 2018 went on to become one of the most sold nonfiction books on Amazon in July of 2018… and later that same year was even listed on the Staff’s Top 5 of Powell’s City of Books. Cait’s story from the “Year of Less” has been shared in the New York Times, The Guardian, The Globe & Mail, Oprah.com, Forbes, and so many more.

This year, she’s released a new book called, “The Adventures in Opting Out: A Field Guide to Leading an Intentional Life”, where she discusses another year-long personal experiment where she left her home & comfort zone in Squamish, British Colombia to travel the world. She shares, in this book as well, ways that readers can not only do the same, but more importantly: shares ways on how her readers can live life on their own terms, free themselves from the bonds & restrictions of what our peers may think, & live life with personal intention.

Again, I am so excited about today’s episode. I would like to put out a small notice: this entire episode was done over Skype, so the audio quality will be a bit spottier than what my listeners are used to. Thank you for your understanding!

The Relevance of Arguing - Conflict Resolution, Growth, & Development in Relationships

47m · Published 15 Sep 17:17

Wow, it's so good to be back! I'm so happy to be returning to the podcast this week. I've missed it terribly and am happy to share life updates, topics surrounding mental health, & the relevance of arguing on today's episode.

Arguing, conflict, and debating, I feel, are largely viewed as scary or negative. In reality, discussing disagreements and areas of change within relationships is actually incredibly, undeniably necessary for there to be room for healthy growth within not only relationships but in personal development, as well. Through resolving conflict, we can learn who we truly are and who our friends and family are over time. Listen to today's episode on The Relevance of Arguing - Conflict Resolution, Growth, & Development to hear more.

The Middle of Getting Over It - Bad Relationships, Loss, and Moving On

15m · Published 07 Nov 11:00
This week, I felt like sharing a little bit about what's been going on in my mind, here lately; I've been in a constant state of reflection over the past few years-- seeing where I used to be in life and where I am, now.   I share, a lot, today about the frustrations I've had over the past few years, relationships gone bad, and the difficulty of losing someone that you love. There's beauty within the pain that comes along with living and life is all about the choice that we have to either "be bitter or better", when certain circumstances arise.   As always, thank you so much for listening. You guys are amazing and your support is awesome-- it means so much to me.   Leave a review and/or like my Facebook page, here: https://www.facebook.com/impulsivetwenties/   Email me, here: [email protected]   Follow me or Direct Message me on Instagram, here: https://www.instagram.com/heyimkatiryan/   Read my Blog through my website, here: https://www.impulsivetwenties.com/    --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/kati-ryan/support

Halloween Spooktacular - Ouija Boards, Shadow Figures, & More

36m · Published 03 Nov 02:07

Welcome to a very, very special edition of "Let's Vent"! This week, we're celebrating Halloween by telling true, personal scary stories that I've experienced and some that I've been told while growing up.

I also want to apologize for being, now, two days late on my episode posting.. but this episode was extremely difficult to record, edit, and upload merely because I feel extremely awkward about the subjects that I'm going to share, today. It's difficult for me to finally tell the public all of the things that I've recently been experiencing, but with the support and help of some close friends, I decided that it was okay to post.

As always, thank you for listening! You guys are so incredibly appreciated and the reason why I record and upload every single week.

Embarrassing Moments & Special Talents - Q&A Episode

41m · Published 24 Oct 10:00

For this week's episode, my brain is completely fried! I had an entire episode's-worth of topics and notes full of content completely lined-up and ready to record until I realized that I simply just wasn't feeling the topic anymore.. I didn't want to share something if it wasn't what I was feeling-- I always want to be real and up-front with my listeners.

With all of that being said, at the very last minute, I reached out on my Instagram story and asked for my podcast listeners to ask me questions to answer for this week's episode! I hate that my plans fell-through with what I had originally lined-up for this week's episode, but I truly had so much fun answering all of your questions, (you guys ask some super thought-provoking and interesting questions).

This week, I want to send out a H U G E "Thank You" to all of my wonderful listeners for all of the support and questions that were asked. If it weren't for you guys, I don't think I would have been able to record, edit, and post any type of episode this week at all. So, thank you so incredibly much; you all are amazing.

Grudges Vs. Boundaries

18m · Published 17 Oct 10:46
On today's episode, I wanted to reiterate points that I made in my most recent blog post, ('Dealing with Toxic Behavior in Family and Friends'). I explain more about my own personal journey and understanding of the importance in setting boundaries for yourself when it comes to toxic people, I share more about taking time to reevaluate your inner circle and who you choose to spend the bulk of your energy and time with, and who you should never allow past arms length. If you struggle heavily with setting personal boundaries, today's episode is for you and to know that you are not alone in this, it's difficult, but not impossible.   As always, thank you so much for listening to and giving continual support to the podcast, it really means a lot to me! I hope that you'll follow me on Instagram, (@heyimkatiryan), and 'like' my Facebook page: (Impulsive Twenties: Blog and Let's Vent: Podcast), for all updates on my blog and podcast.   Thank you, see you next week! :) --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/kati-ryan/support

Why I Dropped Out of College, Twice - Part 2

48m · Published 10 Oct 12:15

For today's episode, I finally sat down to record the second half of the "Why I Dropped Out of College, Twice" series. I delve deeper into how my college relationship ended poorly, how I met my (now-husband) Joey, and more importantly: the lesson that I learned in how to do what I knew was right for me, rather than following along with what I thought people expected me to do.

As always, thank you so much to all of my listeners who continue to support the podcast by listening every Thursday; your support truly does mean the world to me.
