Episode 14: The One With Getting Your Partner Involved

45m · Published 17 Dec 05:00

Relationships are ever evolving - from dating, to being engaged, to being newlyweds, to becoming new parents (not necessarily in that order). But arguably, becoming parents for the first time is the biggest change that a couple will ever go through.

During this season of drastic change, there is, generally speaking, one parent that takes on more responsibility when it comes to the child(ren). Being that parent can be very overwhelming to put it lightly. We discuss ways we ensure our homes and family are happy by working with our partners on ensuring they maintain a level on involvement we are both happy with.

Episode 12: The One About Downtime & Night-Weaning Update

43m · Published 19 Nov 05:00

With most people still working from home and everyone being home all day long, alone time can be very hard to come by.  Before we were moms we would have crazy 10 step skin care routines, take time for a bubble bath, always had polished nails, just vegged out on the couch and scrolled through our phones. But these days things look a tad bit different.  Our husbands get thrown off when our skin care takes a little bit longer to do, bubble baths are a nap time thing where you send out a hope and prayer they don't wake up, going to the bathroom alone is an unheard of luxury.

 Yeah, different.

All this to say we are both slowly finding more time to toss in a self-care/downtime activity in our toddler mom routines.

Episode 9: The One About Alternative Sleep Solutions

58m · Published 08 Oct 04:00

The present narrative circulating in the North American baby world is that it is safe to sleep train from about 4 months+ of age in order to teach baby to self soothe and sleep well, and parents can get the much needed rest. Parents are encouraged to room share at least until 6 months of age.

The narrative in a number of other countries is: co-sleep, bedshare, room share for as long as possible & until it stops being manageable for the family, rock your baby to sleep, nurse your baby to sleep, do these things so that your child feels safe and everyone sleeps well.

Two very different techniques. Two very different ways of looking at sleep. Two very interesting points of view, yet neither is the wrong one so long as it works for your family.

We chat with Lisa from Primal Baby Sleep, a baby-led sleep specialist  and proponent of attachment-based and responsive parenting.

Lisa gives us insight into safe bedsharing 7 co-sleeping techniques & distinct differences between the two. She also shares how to gently ween toddlers off of night feeds so as to maintain a daytime supply.

If you are wondering about a different perspective on baby sleep and are looking for an alternative to sleep training, this episode is for you.

Did you ever put baby in your bed to sleep?

53m · Published 24 Sep 04:00

Should I go back to work?
How will my family routine change?
Who will take care of the kids while I work & will they do a good enough job?
Who will drop the kids off? Will it always be my sole responsibility?
Who takes time off of work when the kids get sick?
Am I really going to leave my career I've worked so hard for to be a stay-at-home-mom?
What requires my attention right now - my family or my career?

Life is just one great big balancing act. As a mom it either overwhelms you completely or you learn that you just can't do it all at 100% capacity.

Episode 6: The One About Postpartum Body Image pt. 2

53m · Published 04 Sep 04:00

Because there is just so much to cover, we continue our chat about postpartum body image.

Pregnancy brings on so many changes to our bodies, but postpartum bodies are next level.

Hormonal levels stay high for a very long time. The key thing to remember is that it took your body 9 months to create a living being, give your body the grace and space it deserves to become yours again.

Even though we are aware of all of the inevitable changes, social media portrays a "bounce back" culture that is quite toxic. We chat about how we are trying our best to get used to rocking these new mom bods in the healthiest way possible while navigating being millennial moms.
