He shares his personal story with achingly tender vulnerability and invites us all to find our own story in his and learn to alchemize the pain and suffering we have experienced into wisdom of lasting value to ourselves and others. The further reward to this work is finding inner pace and healing and the capacity to embrace our purpose.

It’s easy to turn to blame in conflicts, moving to anger and issuing blame on others for the divisiveness that is so pervasive today. There is a critical step many people miss, and that is to first look deeply at ourselves – practicing “radical self-inquiry,” and consider the ways any of us have been complicit in, and benefited from, conditions we say we’d like to change or even abhor. Only then can we begin to see and shift the effects of untended, unhealed wounds and beliefs on those we lead.

The Women's Bean Project in Denver hires women with multiple barriers to employment that include histories of substance misuse, former incarceration, histories of domestic violence, and homelessness. This non-profit provides a safe and accepting work environment where women can earn a paycheck while addressing the issues that have prevented them from getting and keeping a job. By doing so, this social enterprise teaches women necessary job skills and how to find their footing in society.

The core of well-being is nurturing a strong, healthy, resilient mindset. Your brain gets easily tripped up and turned “off” by all the daily distractions and obstacles that pop up. No matter how “smart” you may be, your brain isn’t built to process all the thousands of pieces of information that come at it each day. When your brain feels overwhelmed, it stops its healthy “thinking’ mode and defaults to the more primal “emotional” mode. We are not taught how to coach our brain ON but can learn.

Technology gets a bad rap in the world these days, though it's doing so much to solve major world problems. Companies are embracing artificial intelligence, 3D printing, robotics, advanced materials, extended realities, blockchain, autonomous vehicles and drones, and space technologies and are poised to leverage technological innovation even more so to address societal challenges like education access, poverty, sustainability, climate change, and pollution. This new breed of stakeholder capitalism adopts purpose as their operating system, perceiving it as a vital animating force with near-spiritual power.
