Episode 7: Stay Supple, My Friend

38m · Published 25 May 18:58

In this episode, Yolonda Coles Jones, aka The Calm and Thrive Coach, is back from a time of pausing the release of episodes, using the unexpected time away to illustrate what it might look like at times to be unapologetic about seeing to our whole-being well-being.

She shares her experiences as her life transitioned into motherhood, including there the story of when she knew she needed to take a different kind of care of herself.

You'll hear her describe what it looked like for her to begin to have an active sense of stillness and connection to herself in the midst of major changes in her life—loss of loved ones, debilitating health challenges, grief, welcoming twin babies, moving residences.

Yolonda is speaking about deepening into mindfulness in the midst of what she calls both "a dark night of the soul" and "happy chaos." She explains what it looks like to combine gentle self-awareness together with unconditional and unapologetic self-love, as well as how to redirect one's attention to moving into the totality and fullness of life, bringing a sense of grounded presence to each moment, whatever kind of moment it is, and maintaining the energy to keep us supple and alive.

If you are under a lot of pressure and are in a season in your life where you are nurturing others, this is the precise time to practice loving, gentle self-awareness and self-nurturing: unapologetic and unconditional self-love. Stay supple.

Primal Screaming? ...Yes! And... | Release as you need to, then define your best next steps.

23m · Published 27 Mar 16:42

Yolonda talks about primal screaming as a trend in America in this episode. It's about re-wilding in order to release the pent-up frustration and energy that has been piling up among parents who have been navigating and going through all of the changes, decision-making, pressure, grief, loss, pain, and all of the parenting in brand new ways - ways that they've never had before since becoming parents.

Yolonda affirms and encourages primal screams as a powerful approach to let the body release in a safe and healthy manner, as this focuses on what we feel as humans.

She ends with offering 7 prompts to help you clarify actionable next steps, once you've made space for yourself to release in a way that feels supportive.

37m · Published 15 Jan 20:22

In this episode, Yolonda Coles Jones, aka The Calm and Thrive Coach, shares her experience with finding herself in a space where sustained adverse reactions to stress had gotten the best of her, how neglected care measures led to her having what she calls "energetic/spiritual B.O.," how that impacted her family and the steps she took to make amends.

Yolonda's discussing what it looked and sounded like to begin the day with apologies, exactly what she said in those apologies and how that impacted her spouse and children.

Respectfully, Do Not Call Me Superwoman... Or Sweetie.

28m · Published 14 Nov 20:24

In this episode, Yolonda Coles Jones, aka The Calm and Thrive Coach, shares her take on the experience of being called "superwoman," why she has distanced herself from that idea and why she would love to live in a world where others do the same.

Yolonda's discussing the role of "nurturer," what the title encompasses and how it extends beyond raising children and being in a womxn+'s body.

She also gets into why the descriptor "superwoman" is often harmful more than it is helpful, even when one is well-meaning.

She offers alternative ways to consider and interact with this vitally important position in our society today.

If you’re a human primarily occupying role of nurturer at home, at work or in your community this episode is for you. If you deeply love and care about a human or humans who occupy this role, this is for you too!
