Episode 33: Integrating Our Shadow With Kathryn Ducey

41m · Published 04 Mar 05:34

"The Shadow Self" is a term coined by Carl Jung to describe the repressed or denied parts of the self. It is the a light metaphor for what many others have referred to as the unconscious.  In order for us to become our highest self, we must learn to embrace our darker self.

It seems counter intuitive and we might think to ourselves why would we wanna integrate our "dark" self in order to become our best self? but as we know, what we resists persists. These hidden, repressed parts of our psyche full of emotions, desires, and beliefs that we we're taught are wrong or bad can wreak havoc if we don't tend to them and integrate them.

In this episode, Kathryn Ducey, Master Coach and behavior Specialist shares her story and sheds light on what shadow work is, how we work with our shadow as well as the tools and practices that she's used over the course of her coaching career to help others discover their authentic self and find a sense of wholeness.

Episode 27: Cultivating Self Compassion And Building Shame Resilience with Dr. Jodi Larry

34m · Published 11 Jan 07:57

Self-compassion involves acting the same way towards yourself when you are having a difficult time, fail, or notice something you don’t like about yourself. Instead of just ignoring your pain with a “stiff upper lip” mentality, you stop to tell yourself “this is really difficult right now,” how can I comfort and care for myself in this moment?

It's so important for us to have practices and rituals in place for self compassion work and working with our shame, it's not enough to simply have awareness. If we stop at awareness without putting in the work, it will show up in different areas of our lives including our relationship with ourselves, with our bodies, with others.  In this episode, Dr. Jodi Larry, Naturopathic doctor and the founder of Rituwell shares her knowledge on the topic, and really sheds light on what happens in our brains when we are experiencing a shame spiral, how to get out of it, and bring in self compassion but most importantly how to recognize and embrace our humanity.
