Today we are sitting down with infertility advocate, mother, content creator and Bachelor alum Astrid Wendt. We are talking all about how Astrid met her now husband Kevin on Bachelor in Paradise, moving to Canada for love ( and the climate shock involved!), navigating trying for a baby during the pandemic, working though infertility and her IVF journey.

She walks us through their infertility journey, the process of trying to get pregnant and navigating the disappointment each month, being diagnosed with “unexplained infertility” and how the journey impacted her and Kevin in different ways. Astrid shares about what the IVF process really looks like - the costs, hormones and medications involved, the impact it all had on her body and emotions and the time and stresses involved in IVF. She tells us what it was like going to all the appts on her own because of COVID, how they navigated playing the waiting game and how she dealt with the influx of emotions and hormones daily. We talk about the misconceptions about infertility and IVF, the hardest and most challenging parts for her, she shares great advice for navigating the IVF pregnancy journey, and we learn about the amazing work she is doing with the Fertility Friends Foundation to help alleviate the financial stress of fertility treatments for Canadian couples.

Courtney openly shares about the family dynamic she was raised in, and how growing up with a young single mom and alcoholic father impacted her and her career path. Siera shared how and WHY she got into pageants, the cause near and dear to her that propelled her to take the stage, the misconceptions about the pageant world and why it is SO much more than swimsuit and evening gown competitions we see on TV. She tells us about the moment she was told she didn’t have “the Miss Universe Body”, how being forced to lose weight resulted in her losing her confidence and why she dumped her team before the competition and did things her own way. Today we are sitting down with grief, coach and mother of three Tanis Mitchell. We are talking with Tanis about how she navigated her daughter Lukah’s traumatic medical journey, how being a medical mama has impacted her and shifted her perspective on life, the empowerment of feeling through grief and refusing to be a victim of the pain, and how her journey has led her to walk alongside others through grief as a group coach.

Tanis vulnerably walks us through Lukah’s journey, from taking her into emergency at 11 months old with a diaper full of blood, to finding out she had a massive benign teratoma in her abdomen, and the nine hour surgery to remove it that ended in the doctor telling her that her baby’s organs were failing. She shares the moment she fell to her knees upon hearing her daughter had 12 to 24 hours to live, and the miraculous turn that kept Lukah alive to wait for a five organ transplant. We hear about the impossible situation they found themselves in trying to keep her alive one day at a time for 7 1/2 weeks until they got the news that she had a transplant match, the impossible joy of receiving the gift of five organs knowing another family was living their worst nightmare, the gruelling process of living out of the hospital the entire time and being forced to sit in her grief.

She tells us why she chose to share her journey on social media, how it helped her navigate and the healing it brought her to have an outlet, the beautiful and unexpected community that it built, and the way that community supported and held their family. We talk about what life has looked like after Lukah’s transplant and how they navigate daily, diving headfirst into learning how to navigate the grief that showed up everywhere, the book she found that was transformational in her grief journey, the tools + supports that have helped her along the way and the transition she made into coaching others in grief.

PLUS: what she does as a grief coach, the power of letting yourself FEEL, trusting the process and letting life unfold, how to experience joy alongside grief and the power of being held by community.

Erika takes us through how and when she realized she may have ADHD, what prompted her to take the steps to receive a proper diagnosis, the changes, the freedom AND grief she felt upon being diagnosed, the tools she has implemented for support and why she considers having ADHD a superpower.

She shares with us the “telltale” signs of ADHD she had, what the steps to get tested looked like for her, the process of deciding to take medication and her experience in choosing the best medication, why she takes her meds for certain tasks and not others and the emotional release she felt the first time she felt the effects of her medication. We talk about how many women are getting diagnosed as adults, how young girls tend to naturally mask symptoms of ADHD, the struggles she had in school as a child and the negative stories she told herself as a result, and the process of now grieving as an adult for the child she was then.

We talk about the impact her diagnosis has had on her and her relationships, Erika shares the tools she has introduced to support herself, how “knocking off thoughts/ getting through to dos ” helps her throughout her day and quiets her brain, the communication shifts she has implemented, and her BEST tip for dealing with the tasks you don’t want to do. She shares about struggling with lack of motivation around “uninteresting” tasks, the power of leaning into your strengths, the importance of finding the right systems, taking ownership in your life and setting yourself up for success, and the differences between listening and hearing in communication.
