35: Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone, and More.

16m · Published 26 Oct 09:00
For so many people, the fall has brought about a lot of change and learning opportunities. In this episode, I reflect some factors that have been making an impact on me, the people I work with, and society at large.

How is our consumerist society changing, and is it for the better?

How do we set boundaries at work when things only seem to be getting more chaotic?

Plus, I have a special announcement about something I've been working on this fall, and how it's probably been one of the hardest things I've ever done.

33: Understanding Your "Future of Everything"

15m · Published 12 Oct 08:02
This week I read an article by Toronto Life called " The Post-Pandemic  Future of Everything", that broke down everything from transit and restaurants to public spaces, and what's in store for them now. It was so inspiring that I thought it was a good idea to do the same for me, and take inventory on my life and my behaviours.

In this episode, I look at what's shifted in my day-to-day life, what I've really benefited from in our new world, and I'm willing to walk away from forever. Inspired by the Toronto Life article, this episode will help you fill out your own scorecard, and envision your future.

32: Some Thoughts on Decision Making, Work Capacity and Lawyering Up

17m · Published 05 Oct 07:37
In this episode I wanted to take some time to cover the themes that have been sticking with me for the last week. As I've been working on some new endeavours (like an upcoming audiobook!), I've been extra cognisant of my decision making behaviours. Sometimes waiting to weigh every option isn't the best idea - I explain why.

Meanwhile, COVID news in the workforce has been bringing up new things to think about. Leadership at companies is worried about employees who aren't working at full capacity while at home, and what the logistics and consequences are around bringing people back into the office.

What can you expect in bringing people back to the office, and how can you make the right decision?

31: Standing Out in a World of Online Portals

17m · Published 28 Sep 06:37
Two of my kids are in the process of looking for work in this new world, and I'm noticing a lot of challenges that aren't making things easy. Online application portals just aren't making any sense to me these days - who wants to submit an application to an automated system?

In this episode, I tackle the different ways you can use your network to find jobs instead of just applying online, and creating a more valuable job-hunting experience. The world is filled with serendipitous opportunities, and it's time you get out there and find them!

30: Happy New Year...

15m · Published 21 Sep 06:19
September is one of those pivotal months that represents a real turning point for parents and students, and it's probably more exciting than the actual start of a new year.
Typically in the new year, we create goals based on things we've been doing poorly that we wish we could improve. But right now, it's a time where we can think about adding to our shifting lives instead and be proud of where we've come. So what's your routine going to be in the fall, this "new year"?
From where I stand, it's time to start taking small steps in the right direction. Focus on small goals and then roll them into something bigger. In this episode I discuss the ways that you can use this fresh start to innovate your life.

28: Trusting Your Instincts on People and Opportunity - with Dean Hopkins

37m · Published 08 Sep 14:10
Continuing on with my Summer Series on pivoting and adapting, I've invited my long time friend Dean Hopkins on the podcast.

Dean is the ultimate representation of being yourself, trusting your instincts and not overthinking them, and that's what I wanted to discuss today. Dean's story is one of success simply through him knowing and understanding what it is that makes him tick and the type of environment he's most productive in.

This episode will help guide you toward this style of thinking, to trust your instincts and not hold back.

27: Imposter Syndrome

15m · Published 31 Aug 07:00
Do you often wonder if people actually know who you are, or that you're not worthy and that you're just pretending?

Everyday, I talk to people about imposter syndrome and have been surprised how often people deny their success and their capabilities and let themselves be defined by the rest of the world.

Even as president of Wood-Gundy, I felt that feeling of unworthiness. But in today's world, there is so much more opportunity to be yourself. So, have we been raised into imposter syndrome? In this episode, I explain how to define yourself outside of outside influences.

26: How Little We Need and How Much We Have

13m · Published 24 Aug 07:00
For me, the greatest gift to come out of this pandemic has been having more time to spend with my family. These last six months have forced us to re-evaluate our values and even more importantly, understand our own value and what we bring to the table. And we're all starting to value things a little differently.

In this episode, I break down the ways that you can look at yourself and your career and build life that reflects your values, and ultimately make sure that you are being valued as well.
