Originally coined by Scott Adams (creator of the Dilbert comic), the idea of a "talent stack" is that you can combine ordinary skills until you have enough of the right kind to be extraordinary. It’s the idea that you can stand out from the crowd in how you create value by having a unique stack of skills that no one else has. You’re probably wondering... is my talent stack just a list of skills stacked up together? How do I summarise my diverse experiences in a concise way that communicates value? I wanted to expand on Scott Adams's definition of a talent stack, to help you: Describe how you add value with your talent stack Identify what further learning you might like to consider to diversify your skillset & make an impact on the future you envision. Today’s episode is inspired by a challenge I’ve set for myself to improve how I use storytelling as a technique to change mindset, behaviours and ultimately inspire people to be more strategic in their transformation journey. I invited Doug Thompson, who is a Technology Strategist and AI ambassador at Microsoft based in Texas, United States to share his expertise on how to craft stories that inspire people to think more strategically about how to pave the way towards a future vision. Keep listening to find out Doug's career journey leading up to becoming a Technology strategist, and how he stays up to date with his learning playlist to always stay future-focused. For the past decade as an online content creator, I've been fortunate to not have come across any social media trolls. I assumed trolls show up on posts that are controversial where they can hide under a pseudonym. Never did I expect that my first troll would be on LinkedIn on a personal announcement. Keep listening to find out which LinkedIn post that was trolled and how I approached it. For more talent stack resources visit https://www.yishanchan.co/links

In August 2020, I was named finalist in the Women in Banking and Finance awards in the "Rising Star" category, to celebrate women leading by example across Australia's banking and finance industry for creating an impact on gender diversity across the sector. In this episode I share a story that illustrates one of my leadership philosophies, where I helped women build a career pathway towards roles that wouldn't otherwise be accessible for them. This was well before COVID, where re-location was required if you wanted to progress your career. I also share my vision to drive more inclusion in storytelling and fostering more connection in the way we gather in a post COVID world. Have you ever wondered how senior leaders built their careers in jobs that didn’t exist until recently? How did they write their own job description? How did they learn the skills needed to build credibility for the role? How do they communicate the value they deliver? We’ll be diving into these topics with our guest Danilo McGarry, who is one of the world’s most respected executives on the topics of Automation and Artificial Intelligence. Danilo has ran some of the world’s largest programs in this space. These have been for the world’s biggest and most respected companies. He is an international keynote speaker, and has been published in several, highly respected publications such as Bloomberg and The Times. In this episode, Danilo shares a senior leader’s perspective on how his career journey and talent stack in the automation industry has been guided by a passion to make a positive impact, and to help people be more human in the future of work. Whether or not you’re considering a career in automation or if you’re planning your next career pivot, what resonated with me from my chat with Danilo is that if you are passionate about making a change, and are passionate about your craft, nothing else matters. Find a way to get involved, build your learning playlist and be curious about getting under the hood, find out how it all really works. There’s one thing you probably haven't considered in your work from home setup - and that is audio quality. In today’s episode, I’m going to share why I think you should invest in a good microphone and recommend 4 different types depending on how you run your meetings. Poor audio quality can affect your audience's ability to process what you’re saying. Investing in crystal clear audio isn’t just a matter of convenience — it’s essential for building connection, credibility and establishing your personal brand. Check out my blog post for the specific brands & models of microphones I recommend. https://www.yishanchan.co/post/microphones-for-podcasting-video-conferencing For more talent stack resources visit https://www.yishanchan.co/links
