Embracing Enough

by Dina Scippa

Embracing Enough is a podcast that showcases the stories of women and girls - unapologetically. Together, we explore the stories and experiences that influence our collective experience and what it takes to embrace the belief that we are enough, just as we are. From the most courageous moments to those that scare us, we muse about all of the different elements of our journey in order to accept ourselves just as we are.

Disrupting the Idea that You Have to Be a "Good Girl"

26m · Published 30 Mar 17:30

For as long as I can remember, I have been the stereotypical “good girl.” While it's something I used to take pride in when I was younger, I'm now realizing how problematic it has been - in my friendships, in my relationships, and in my career. Being the good girl, or telling yourself you have no other choice comes at a cost: an immense amount of pressure, most of it self-inflicted.

As a person who has always strived to improve (mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally, socially), I have often fallen into the trap of attempting perfection, which always ends in failure. People get disappointed with good girls - because it's impossible to be good ALL the time. Because being a “good girl” comes with a lot of pressure to be well-behaved, kind, generous, modest, enthusiastic, polite, and friendly at all times. In this solo episode, Dina reflects on a thread that has been coming up this season sitting down with disrupters - the long held belief that we have to be good in order to be liked, validated, and successful. And the longer we resist it, the longer we stew in our own resentment. It's high time we really call out the behavior of people rewarding girls (and women) for being good - and just let us BE.

Remembering Our Breath and Our Knowing with Marica Lowe

48m · Published 11 Mar 02:54

In this episode, Dina sits down with embodiment doula, breathwork practitioner and friend, Marica Lowe to talk about something too many of us forget to do when we need to remember it most: TO BREATHE.

Marica is an absolute disrupter.  After graduating with a BBA in Accounting in 2007, she hit the ground running with a career in audit at one of the Big 4 accounting firms, later pursuing a career in financial reporting in the private sector. In 2018, she became the only black person (1 of 2 minorities) on the executive team as the VP, Finance at an obstacle course racing company. Doing all that she could to follow the instructions from the parentals to work hard, make a lot of money, and save, she had a yearning in her soul to give back to my community of strong, driven, Black Women.

Over the last 3 years, she has focused on understanding her purpose as an individual, relationally, and spiritually. Launching The Purple Kitty NY in 2020 allowed her to learn, experiment and be a resource to her community by providing space and information for individuals to see themselves.

Her mission is to help ignite the fire within and live your most spicy, sensual and sacred life.

Connect with Marica through her website at www.thepurplekittyny.com/ and on Instagram @maricawithac and on Facebook and LinkedIn at Marica Lowe.

The Audacity to Disrupt

26m · Published 23 Feb 01:35

In this first episode of Season 4, Dina unpacks her word for 2023: DISRUPT.

Deciding to dedicate this entire season to disrupters, she shares her earliest story of being a disrupter in her career and discusses the pros and cons to disrupt certain narratives and toxic systems. She reflects on how earlier in her career, she was afraid of being "too disruptive"; but how now being firmly planted in full-time entrepreneurship, she feels completely comfortable in owning that title of DISRUPTER with confidence.

We define what it means to be a disrupter in this episode. Simply put, we see it as someone who is brave enough to challenge the status quo and introduce new and innovative ideas. It’s about thinking outside the box, taking a risk, and not being afraid to fail in the face of experimenting with a different perspective.

The hope in this episode is to get clear on your personal definition of what it means to be a disrupter; and identify the areas of where you could be taking more risks to disrupt any limiting beliefs.

75. A year of unlearning

46m · Published 30 Dec 21:40

In this final episode of Season 3, I unpack what the a year of unlearning has helped show me by way of what I've learned, unlearned, and how it's prepared for me what I *think* is next (because how can we really know, right?)

What a wild and unpredictable ride it's been - and I wouldn't have it any other way. Tune in to hear my thoughts and reflections about what being committed to a conversations about unlearning has shown me about myself and the lessons I've taken from it.

I invite you in to hear a little bit about Chapter 2022 where I peel back the curtain to what this year has really been like....the glamourous highs and the not so glamorous lows...and how I've been able to access gratitude for it all.

Thank you for being a part of the conversation and I hope that you'll be along for the next season!

finding your voice...confidently with Kalilah Hudson

Kalilah is the owner of K Hud Coaching and she helps women become better public speakers by providing them with the tools, methods, and support to speak confidently and authentically on stage and social media.

Because women are more likely to be empathetic, humble, and purpose-driven she believes that an empowered woman with a strong voice and message can impact generations for the better.

Her mission: To help purpose-driven women feel like they no longer have to navigate their speaking challenges alone. Here they have a safe place to share their ideas so they can achieve the confidence, authority, and visibility they've always wanted.

respectfully friend, wtf?

18m · Published 21 Nov 22:40

In this week's episode, I chat about what my friend, Andrea recently said to me that made me snap into some real harsh truths. That's what friends are for though, right?  Well, she got me all the way right (but first had me all the way in my feelings!) about patterns I had been guilty of repeating. All in service of a belief that had me thinking I wasn't (wait for it...) good enough. No matter how long it's taken me to learn this lesson that I only need to show up for myself and people who are grateful to be in spaces with me, I'm still here learning (and unlearning). I get to give myself permission to start over, as many times as I need to. And to take care of myself first so that I have the energy and space to share my whole self.

And respectfully, be a F&*K YES to me.

Unlearning the Lessons that Were Planted in Childhood

40m · Published 27 Oct 21:25

In this week's episode, I talk about what I've been feeling with just days up to The Unlearning Lab LIVE, reflections on how the lessons I picked up as a child formed who I thought I had to be as an adult, and reflect on the simple and pure beauty of watching two little girls I adore (Anya and Alsa) navigate their childhood and how I get to be a proud un-official auntie to them. Life is long, and beautiful, and messy - and all so worth it. And to me in this moment, I'm so glad I get to unlearn what was never mine to begin with.
