28m · Published 06 Jun 19:32

What's on your feeds? Is it something that represents you? Is it something that makes you feel good about yourself? Is it something that uplifts you? These are the questions we need to be asking ourselves when we are searching for representation and acceptance. One person who has taken it upon herself to ensure she is creating these spaces is body acceptance queen, Brynta!! On today's episode, Brynta shares with us her thoughts on  the lack of space for bigger bodies, for POC bodies, for people who want to be seen. She shares what body acceptance means to her, how people can create more inclusive spaces, how to love ourselves, and how social media platforms need to accept all of us. Showkace: It's Time to Talk S2 - Episode 20: Business, Innovation, & Mental Health w/Ravi

31m · Published 30 May 18:53

One of the biggest focuses during this pandemic has been entrepreneurship, being your own boss, and starting a new business. With this industry being so driven, advanced, and competitive, are we taking care of our mental health? I wanted to get someone on this episode who would talk to us about navigating through this. The person that I thought would be a great fit in exploring this conversation with, is Ravi, aka a serial entrepreneur. He dives into how he landed in this field, how innovation and technology has changed the world, and how through all these advancements, we still somehow manage to neglect our mental health. He also speaks about his successful group on Clubhouse which he co-founded, called "Disrupters Den". This episode is filled with a lot of good information, and if you are someone who is looking to get connected, then get ready to take some notes! Enjoy!

Showkace: It's Time to Talk S2 - Episode 19: Toxic Masculinity with a Male Panel

42m · Published 23 May 16:30

When we talk about toxicity, it can take place in so many spaces. Toxicity affects us in such negative ways, emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. On today's episode we talk about Toxic Masculinity with a male panel. These guys have been on my podcast a few times now, and they were very open to talk about this ongoing issue. Mayu, Steve, and Abi, I respect your vulnerability and your ability to identify the issue/gap/challenges/growth in our South Asian Tamil society when it comes to toxic masculinity. The guys talk about their experiences, their biases, and their commitment to breaking gender role stereotypes and accepting people for how they identify. Enjoy!

Showkace: It's Time to Talk S2 - Episode 18: Preserving our Tamil language w/ Kanaga Books

28m · Published 16 May 16:20

As we headed into the month of May, I was thinking of ways in which I would hold space for us, us Tamil/Thamil/Thamizh folks. May 18 is Mullivaikkal Remembrance Day. This day is observed by Tamil people, to remember those who died in the war. It is named after Mullivaikkal, which is a village on the north-east coast of Sri Lanka which was the scene of the final battle of the civil war.

As this is a very difficult time for all of us, especially those that have experienced first hand of this war, and those that have lost loved ones to the hands of this genocide inflicted by the Sri Lankan government, it is a time we mourn and reflect on what has and still is happening to our people back home.

As we remember all of the people that we lost, I wanted to remember why our Tamil existence is so beautiful. One of the ways in which we can do that, is to understand our language, our roots, our culture. Someone who is helping us preserve all of that, is Kanaga Books. In this episode, Abi (founder), talks to me about where this journey of Tamil books started, how she found a passion project through her lived experiences, and how she encourages others to embrace and continue learning our beautiful Tamil language.

During times of darkness, we have to remind ourselves of the light that we can bring into these spaces. I hope all of you are taking care of your mental health, and holding space for yourself, so you can reflect and heal. Enjoy.

Showkace: It's Time to Talk S2- Episode 16: Buying/Selling/Renting on Your Own Terms w/Lucky

31m · Published 02 May 19:50

The pressure of owning a property is at an all time high! As a society, we tend to define our success based on what we have. Even though owning property is a great investment, sometimes it might not be the right time for you. So to help us get a better understanding of when to buy/sell/rent, I got one of the coolest realtors in the game right now, Lucky, to give us his input/advice on what you can do next. Lucky explores the importance of a good relationship with your money, but also your realtor, who's main job is to work on a plan that fits your specific needs. Thanks to Lucky, I have settled into my beautiful new place, and he has taught me so much along the way. If you want to learn more about buying/selling/renting then go take a listen. Enjoy!

Showkace: It's Time to Talk S2 - Episode 15: Education/Politics & Social Change w/Tyler Robinson & Maliesha

I brought the OG educator, Ms. Maliesha, back on another episode and paired her up with another heavy hitter educator, who's also a politician, and fellow Scarborough homie, Mr. Tyler Robinson. There are a lot of spaces where we talk about what change can look like, and what needs to be done, but today we have people who are actually working towards making this an action item, and pushing forward to advocate for the change we need. This episode is all about critically analyzing our education system, implementing an Anti-Black racism curriculum into our classrooms, challenging white supremacy, and most importantly working as a collective to create change... NOW! Grab your notebooks, class is in session. Enjoy!!

Showkace: It's Time to Talk S2 - Episode 14:Beauty Queens & Beauty Standards

43m · Published 18 Apr 21:23

This is a packed episode with all of my previous beauty guests on the show. I sat down with Cynthia, Sindu, Durka, and Thanuska to hold a panel discussion on beauty standards, how they are perceived by society, the pressure of being a content creator, and so much more. I think it was important to have these conversations because for most of us, we just see a snippet of them online, off of their work they post. Today's episode shows that they too are humans, and they too want to be heard. All my girls deliver such healthy positive messages to future beauty content creators and also young folks to be true to themselves! So if that's you, then you need to listen to this!! Enjoy!!!
