42m · Published 01 Oct 17:00
On this special episode, Diana Day joins Sapha to talk about YEAH (Yoga Enrichment for Adolescent Healing), Healing through yoga and so much more. About my guest in HER own words: I have been practicing yoga for more than 10 years but I faul in love with it 6 years ago. I move to Houston 9 years ago & didn't know what to work and toll me to find something I will do for free and I decide to do teache yoga because it was my hobby at that moment. whent stared teaching yoga it was for the adults when I went to India something changes inside of me & decides what I want were to impact more people with yoga-like yoga help me. I came to front a really confronting culture true meditation I stared being more undertanding and last arguing person. For the reason when this work shows up I knew it was what I looking for. Sheltering Harbour is a residential treatment center operating at five campuses and is designed to help boys and girls aged 10 to 17 with emotional or behavioral problems. like aggression, self hard, sexual abuse, drugs, etc... I trying to undertang this problem make a plan of approach with the kid. like agretion is importan to undertang where it came from, sometimes it is the only way the family express. (I have a lot of stories). FROM THE BOOK ; Peter and his family began taking private yoga lessons from Diana Day, a certified yoga instructor. Working with Diana reignited his appreciation for meditation he experienced years ago in the ashram. He asked Day to teach yoga at the girls’ campus of Sheltering Har- bour. Day, a yoga studio/private instructor was unsure of what to expect, but she took on the challenge with an open heart and mind. The first yoga class at Sheltering Harbour took place in the kitchen/dining area and came with all of the challenges of a new class and a group that had no idea what yoga was. The group was made up of 12 girls who had never done yoga, weren’t in good physical shape and were more interested in getting back to their families than learning something new. The classes initially focused on fitness but Diana soon realized the internal struggles of these children and began to incorporate mindful breathing and meditation to help them relax Yoga Enrichment for Adolescent Healing or YEAH!, started with humble beginnings as a simple idea in the imagination of founders, Peter J. Ciborowski and Diana Day. The story of YEAH! began many years ago when Ciborowski founded Sheltering Harbour, a group home living facility for children within the Child Protective Services system who struggle with behavioral issues as a result of trauma and abuse and could not be placed in foster care. Ciborowski believed that all children deserve to have the same opportunities his own children were given. He frequently sought out programs and made them available to the residents of Sheltering Harbour. One day, Ciborowski discovered an ashram, an Indian monastery. At the ashram, Peter developed a love and appreciation for meditation. It helped him center himself and deal with the day to day high stress of daily life. into their bodies. Two months in, she discove- red the girls’ behavior issues had diminished, they were more focused and willing to participate, and they self-reported feeling better about themselves and others. The children were so responsive to the classes that two yoga studios were placed on two different campuses so that Day could teach the students in a more comfortable environment. During a staff meeting, Day addressed the need for life skills support and art enrichment for the children of Sheltering Harbour. The day began implementing life skills training along with art and crafts to her yoga lessons and created the new seeds of a program that would evolve into YEAH!. The turning point for the program came after Hurricane Harvey. Before the storm hit, the girls’ campus of Sheltering Harbour was transported to a... Support this podcast

Sex and sexuality are complex topics that can often bring about a lot of old patterns and stories that may not be serving us. About my guest: https://www.yaelrosenstock.com/ (Yael R Rosenstock Gonzalez) is a sex educator, researcher, author, speaker, and curriculum developer. As a queer, polyamorous, white-presenting Nuyorican Jew, Yael has always been interested in understanding the multi-level experiences of individuals. This led her to found https://kvibrations.com/ (Kaleidoscope Vibrations, LLC), a company dedicated to supporting and creating spaces for individuals to explore and find community in their personal identities. Through her company, she facilitates workshops, develops curriculum, offers https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfV3XftsDLI-9opBpq1sAN8mzxmbMhiRmTjer2yEPFrBAS2_w/viewform (Identity Exploration Coaching), and publishes narratives often left out of mainstream publishing. Yael has been engaged in workshop development and facilitation since she joined the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) as a teen peer reproductive rights educator at 15 years old. Since then, she has served as an educator with children ranging from 10 months old to adults in their 70s with different organizations and communities. In her work as first Program Coordinator, then Director of Programming, and finally Associate Director of the Center for Ethnic, Racial, and Religious Understanding, Yael developed and led events, workshops, and programs with an intersectionality lens. Throughout Yael’s career, there has been an emphasis on sex, gender, and diversity. Her undergraduate thesis, "A Not so Silent Voice for Female Sexuality: Empowering Examples from Literature Cross-Culturally" and Master's thesis, "Dismantling Rape Culture through an Exploration of Consent, Desire, and Pleasure," created space for her to explore sexuality, consent, and pleasure through different perspectives and disciplines.
