How This Dude Built A Custom-Fit Wetsuit Company For Surfers & Divers With Andy Park

36m · Published 01 Jul 15:10

Yo! What’s going on guys? New episode of Badass Asian Dudes.

This week’s guest is Andy Park, the founder of 7till8. 7till8 makes custom fit surf and dive wetsuits tailored to your body’s exact specifications. You just go on their website, send your measurements, and then they send you a custom wetsuit in a few weeks.

You see this a lot with clothing for example suits, shirts, jackets - but i remember when Andy and his former business partner came up with this idea years back - I thought it was pretty genius because custom and made to measure clothing was getting big in those days.

Of course just having an idea is nothing. The hardest part is executing it and actually turning it into something.

But what do you do if you have no experience with wetsuits and you’ve never made a wetsuit before?

And also how do you compete against the already established wetsuit companies out there like Body Glove, Billabong, and O’Neill that have been in the game for years?

All they had was the idea of creating a custom wetsuit company.

That’s the position Andy and his former business partner were in.

Some things we talk about in this episode:

  • his kickstarter strategy and how they raised 20k
  • creating a vision for your company
  • key takeaways from his accelerator program
  • what he would do if he started over from scratch

Please share, subscribe, and if you really like the show, please leave us a 5 star review! It helps other people find the podcast and also helps me get other great guests to interview. I would really appreciate it.

How This Dude Built A Multi-Million Dollar Skincare Brand Using Taiwanese Berries With Michael Koh

36m · Published 01 Jul 15:09

Yo! What’s good dudes.

Here’s my podcast with entrepreneur Michael Koh of Tree to Tub.

Michael created an all natural-skincare brand with his buddy after graduating from college. The main ingredient of his brand is a berry that comes from Taiwan called the soapberry.

When you mix the berry with some water, it creates a natural soap. Michael and his friend created a company around this soapberry and does multiple millions of dollars per year.

In our conversation today, we talk about his entrepreneurship story but we also go into a bunch of other different topics. This conversation kind of goes all over the place but i like it because you get to learn a lot of his thought process and mindset for things other than business.

Some topics we talk about:

  • why he loves and lives in Chiang Mai
  • his number 1 question in life
  • leaving the safety of Google to go down his own path
  • what owning and operating a food truck taught him
  • my first acid trip
  • what it was like going on QVC and how it impacted his business

This week is a new episode with Calvin Sun. I think Calvin could be in my personal top 5 “Most Interesting Man in the World.” He is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, former MTV show host, dancer, medical doctor, and entrepreneur. There’s probably a few more that I left out.

Calvin is an ER Doctor in New York City and he’s traveled to 170+ countries. What’s crazy is that he traveled to 150 of those countries during medical school and residency.

How This Korean Streetwear Brand Grew From The Internet To New York Fashion Week With Terrence Kim

47m · Published 01 Jul 15:03

Dudes! Really special episode with my friend TK.

TK and his brother grew up in New Jersey and then moved to China to start a sneaker brand. That didn't work out but their travels to Korea inspired them to start a streetwear brand mixing in traditional Korean elements.

Yes, a Korea inspired streetwear brand.

The brand is called IISE. IISE means “second generation” in Korean.

With no money, no experience, no nothing they built this brand from the ground up and even had a runway show at New York Fashion Week in 2018.

It’s been exciting watching their company grow. We dive deep into the origin story.
