Sisterhood: Connecting Through Meaningful Conversations

by Laurie-ann Sheldrick

It is my mission to share my journey in the best way I know how, through honest story telling, and teaching everything I’ve learned up until this point (which is always evolving) and to hopefully be like a sister to you (a guide) to support you as you navigate your way through life. I am committed to giving you all the tools, practices, knowledge and experiences I have, while also admitted that I don’t have all the answers. Through this podcast, you will learn that you are not alone. I will show you how to experience mental, emotional, and spiritual freedom.

Episode 48: Are You Constantly Finding Things To Be Angry About? A Conversation About The Impact That Can Have on Us

52m · Published 16 Mar 13:35

Anger can be good fuel when focused on a worthy cause, or used to direct our energy towards making positive change. But what I’m seeing lately, is anger towards being different, acting differently, believing in different things, behaving differently, or thinking differently. We can’t even have a different opinion lately without collective anger being directed towards us.

In this conversation I am sharing what my own experience about this has been, how feeling so angry resulted in taking a month long hiatus, how I have been redirecting my anger, and what the impact of constantly being angry can have on us mentally, emotionally, attitudinally, and physically. As well as how it makes us treat each other.

This is not a stop being angry in 10 steps share. This is an open conversation where we explore what finding things to constantly be pissed off about means to us. Being okay that we might have more questions than answers right now. At the end, I share an anger self-assessment that can help you to contemplate and integrate this topic even deeper.

Episode 47: Your Pelvic Health Matters, A Conversation with Pelvic Health Physiotherapist Christine MacMillan

1h 15m · Published 14 Mar 14:57

In this meaningful conversation, I sat down with Pelvic Health Physiotherapist Christine MacMillan.

If you didn’t grow up having conversations about pelvic heath, vaginal health, menstrual health, breast health, hormonal health, this conversation is for you.

Christine and I both agree that there is nothing about any of these topics that are or should be embarrassing or cause women any shame.

Women are unique, our bodies are unique and that is also true when it comes to our pelvic organs.

Christine Shares:

- What pelvic health means and why it matters.

- What pelvic physiotherapy is and how you know when you need it.

- What your pelvic organs are.

- What pelvic floor conditions to watch out for.

- The many misperceptions we grow up learning.

Christine Says: “Normalizing disfunction in your body needs to become something of the past.”

In the intro, I share a personal self-assessment you can do to get a baseline of where you are physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Episode 46: Making What You Did & Who You Are Today Enough

56m · Published 10 Mar 19:01

After a little hiatus, I'm back with Season 3 and a solo podcast. In this episode I'm talking about my most recent experience of taking a month long hiatus from social media, from creating new content and from my company. I share what I have learned, how the pandemic impacted who I am, the way I want to do business and live my life. I also share what I was experiencing mentally and emotionally that led me to needing to take a break and how giving myself the support I needed showed me that who I am and what I do today is enough - no matter what I do.

My intention with today's share is to give you hope. Especially if you are feeling confused, frustrated and hopeless. I want you to know, even if you don't trust it yet, that there is a light at the end of every dark tunnel.

Episode 44: A Conversation About Experiencing Emotional Freedom with Ann Hince

1h 12m · Published 31 Jan 16:03

In this conversation, I'm joined by Ann Hince. Ann is sharing her experience with the therapeutic technique called EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique and how it helped her heal from trauma and PTSD. If you feel like your emotions have full control over your life right now, this conversation is for you.

When Ann was 19, she woke one morning to find her mother dead in her bathroom. Twenty years later the tears from that trauma were still just under the surface. When Ann discovered EFT, it finally helped her to release these emotions - but she went further and can now put her awareness inside her body - what she calls Insight, or inward-sight. Ann has found that seeking out our truth, what we truly feel, and accepting those feelings, is the key to inner peace.

We talk about:

- What EFT is and why it works.

- How to step back and allowing ourselves to feel our feelings without our feelings controlling us.

- She shares the importance of understanding the layers of feelings, including naming them, and where they are in your body.

- How our emotions and our entire body is a signal, and thinking about what signal we are passing on emotionally, for example, through social media before we even process our own emotions around it.

- And so much more!

Favourite takeaway: You don’t have to look for the positive when you are processing the negative emotion. Once you process the negative emotion and get to the healing of that, the positive emotions with just naturally come in because it is actually our truest state.

Episode 42: Building Your Life on a Solid Foundation

22m · Published 13 Jan 17:15

I was just riffing in my journal and thought I would take my thoughts over here. I'm talking about building your life on a solid foundation and exploring questions we can be asking ourselves that will support us, mentally, emotionally and physically. This is just me in pondering mode, so I don't have it all figured out yet. That is why I like to have the conversations. A meaningful conversation doesn't mean you always have the answers. It is just as meaningful when you are asking more questions than you currently have answers to.
