Kick FEAR to the kerb and thrive in 2021

FEAR is an acronym for False Evidence Appearing Real and its one you should always remember because it forms a story in our head and holds us back from great stuff, opportunities, and life in general.

In this episode I want you to create your own little mantra, mine is “Fuck You FEAR” and this allows you to find the inner strength get rid of the story and move forward in what ever I want to do. Ill share some examples in this episode and I hope this helps you take on2021 with such a drive that nothing will hold you back.

And don’t forget growth doesn’t happen naturally it happens intentionally is accessible to everyone!

Accountability Works Both Ways

Accountability Works Both Ways

As a trainer and/or a manager you play a massive role in how students experience learning especially when they have previously had bad experiences in their childhood at school and in their career.

Accountability is a way of keeping you on track, setting yourself up for success and delivering on what is promised in the form of quality and service. Accountability for students helps them progress and develop confidence in what they are doing and see the end is nearing and the rewards are all worth it.

Setting your trainers up with accountability that they can commit to and solidify what is working and keep progressing with confidence has incredible benefits.

And never forget, growth doesn’t happen naturally it happens intentionally and is accessible to everyone!

Dealing with Difficult Students

After 17 years in the industry I know that at some point going to have to deal with difficult students. Its just part of the journey and this helps you grow and develop your skills.

What is a difficult student?

Why are they difficult? Be curious when someone is displaying behaviors not conducive to the classroom or online training you are delivering.

How do you manage them?

What strategies can you use?

Why is it important to have boundaries?

What can you do to manage and so much more is discussed in this episode along with some examples of how to manage and what FEAR does to a student and how you can help them overcome the fear and be more open to the learning.

As a trainer you play a massive role in how students experience learning especially when they have previously had bad experiences in their childhood at school and in their career.

And never forget, growth doesn’t happen naturally it happens intentionally is accessible to everyone!

Workshop Activities and Icebreakers - The Benefits

11m · Published 16 Nov 03:00

Workshop Activities and Icebreakers - The benefits are HUGE, let me reiterate the benefits are really huge for the people attending your workshops and also for you as the trainer.

Lets start with benefits of an ICE Breaker at the start of your training session / Workshop

As people come into the training room they can be in a frame of mind that they are here to learn and have an open mind, or they are forced to be here and therefore they are resistant to not only participating they are what we call a hostage, they were told they must be there and they don't want to have any part of it.

An ice breaker can help build rapport and break down barriers especially if they are fun and involved. Ensure your ice breaker is meaningful and generates either action or communication.

The benefits of activities are they keep people engaged, moving in motion and when activities get people thinking especially when their may be a little bit of competitiveness between the groups this can lead to a significantly higher level of learning and engagement.

Workshop activities need to be aligned to the training and build on each stage of the session, allowing people to see the connection and want to contribute, use resources and tools that generate this, large sticky notes, white boards, other tangible items.

When the activities engage people are more open to the learning and also listening to what others have to say.

Use Feedback to Improve your Skills

9m · Published 10 Nov 08:00

As a trainer we know how important feedback is even if it makes us feel a little uncomfortable at times. As we head toward the end of the year we know that training slows down if you are in VET and even if you do non accredited training for Government Departments this also slows down.

Take the time to evaluate the feedback you have received over the past 12 months and make a plan for skills development or material development, walk into 2021 ready and in a more prepared place than you have ever been.

I hope this short podcast is helpful.

Tasks that engage and enable learning

14m · Published 02 Nov 22:00

As a Trainer you want to make sure that you engage your learners and learning new concepts is achieved.  Group activities can at times go horribly wrong if you are not organised and don't know what the main objective is.

In this podcast I talk about really simple activities to deliver in a workshop style that are engaging, create collaboration and get results that can be immediately implemented into the workplace.

This training is very relevant right now as people transition back to work, trust and rapport need to be developed and communication needs to be as authentic as it has ever been.

Some examples are;

Tuckman's Team Development Model - Why  and how the process works
Emotions - identifying and expanding your emotional vocabulary
Values - Elicit values and beliefs
Perceptual positioning - Resolve conflict by identify others beliefs, behaviors and values

Brene Brown "Dare to Lead, how she is changing the way leadership is done.

The Journey Out is In - With Nathan Hawken

47m · Published 11 Sep 03:00

In this 5 part series we are going to share such some really powerful tools and insights.

Nathan talks to us about mindfulness, awakening your consciousness and healing. As a very successful Coach he shares his insights into the journey of self discovery and going inward to discover your true self.

We openly discuss challenges in life and how if we sit with the challenge and go inside though mindfulness and meditation we can heal.  Doing the work can open up possibilities to greater wisdom, self love and self fulfillment.

We discuss why it is important to practice self care and gratitude instead of seeking external stimulation that can be taken away from you. Discovering that this journey is continuous and can be the most rewarding discovery you can make.

Coaching a student to realign focus

11m · Published 21 Aug 04:00

If you are a Coach, Mentor, Trainer and Assessor you know that its not easy to keep clients on the path to success. It's our job to support and encourage students to progress but this needs to be on their terms. Helping students realign and get back on track isn't a complicated process.

I have outlined a process that is really simple to implement and I hope you find this useful.

  1. Set up the time for a session
  2. Welcome and check in to get acquainted
  3. Build rapport
  4. Outline the situation
  5. Identify the objectives
  6. Identify what challenges and blocks may come up
  7. Assist the student to establish resolutions for the challenges
  8. Action and Accountability

When ending the session be sure to clarify all that has been agreed upon and follow up at the agreed time.
