Episode 4: Cue Banks - Navigating the American Economy

20m · Published 03 Jan 11:40
The wealth gap in America is bigger than ever, but what does wealth inequality really mean? The richest 1% of America now owns more of the country's wealth than at any other time in the past 50 years. 3% of the population accumulates for 97% of our economy's wealth, with skyrocketing inequality. While many of us are not aware, socioeconomic factors plague our economy causing the rich to get richer, and the poor to get poorer. According to the NY Times, the number of Americans living in poverty increased 15 percent, while the wealthiest percent increased their share by 10 percent. There are many unprecedented factors that cause the wealth gap in America, but why is it that there is such a big gap in our social construct? Is it the inability to navigate our economy? Our guest for today is a prime example of beating all odds. Quillan Black, a professional trader in the foreign exchange market, moved from Jamaica to America, and found a way to navigate his way to wealth in a society that many people fall victim to. Find out how he was able to come to this country, work at Target making $8.25 an hour, quit his job, become a multimillionaire by the age of 28 years old, and teach people all around the world his craft. As an educator with over 4,000 students, Quillan has been able to shed his knowledge and help others discover a new life. His main principles center around: manifestation, hard work, and believing in yourself. Through these principles he teaches the importance of confidence, and how that confidence is the foundation of this world. On this episode we will dive into his journey, and address the multiple factors that affect our economy, the construct of our nation, key components to being a trader, as well as his journey. Episode 3: Health as an African American

33m · Published 26 Nov 23:08
The health status of African Americans has always been higher than that of our white counterparts. Statistically, our health identifies a higher prevalence of cardiovascular diseases, cancer, hypertension, diabetes, as well as obesity. While many of us are not aware, socioeconomic factors and inadequate nutrition plague our communities. According to the US National Library of Medicine, and National Institute of Health, ----Most health care professionals are not educated and trained to be culturally sensitive. The struggle against the prevalence of diseases in African Americans must incorporate cultural sensitivity, community organization, and empowerment.----There are many unprecedented factors that cause us to suffer worse than any other demographic group in America. While I would love to cover them all, our guest for today is going to uncover one of the key principles to helping us combat this plague. Dr. Baruch is a naturopathic doctor that teaches on the socioeconomic factors that prevent African Americans from maintaining health. One of his main principles is helping others understand the difference between the standard American diet vs. the BLACK American diet. Through this work, he opened vegan restaurants in the inner city and impoverished neighborhoods. On this episode we will dive into his journey, and how to address the multiple factors that take away from our health, such as poor diet, stress, lack of exercise and negative lifestyle choices. In this episode you’ll discover:The State of Health in the African American communityHow to Combat Health DisparitiesUnderstanding our bodies and the illnesses that plague usHow to make healthy food taste like soul foodThe evolution of Dr. Baruch's journeyInstagram/ Facebook/ Twitter @itsjessicalaineValuable resources to get you going: www.eliferestaurant.comwww.fightforyourlife.org -Take free Health Assessmentwww.healthyusa.helo.life - Know the Status of Your HealthUncover the in person interviewhttps://youtu.be/2OGdWBxaNBk

Episode 2: ----Beauty Trap---- -With Guest Lita Lewis

27m · Published 24 Oct 01:44
In 2016, I worked with Michelle Obama's Let's Move campaign in an initiative to decrease childhood obesity throughout the public school system. Through my works, I gained a sense of awareness that surpassed the fitness realm. Over 85% of the young girls that I worked with developed a strong tendency to not get healthy, but workout for vanity purposes causing an automatic habit of comparing themselves to others. Those inundated with social media posts developed a psyche that was more harmful than good. Self-esteem and mental health issues skyrocketed and created a longterm negative effect on their thought process. Though my observations, I began to carve out my work to integrate not just fitness, but the totality of wellness. Through this, I founded my nonprofit, Beyond the Body Inc., in an attempt to help young women develop a sense of self-love. Most recently I partnered with a clothing brand, Beautiful In Every Shade, that debunks stereotypical ideologies of beauty. Well, today I will be interviewing a very special lady that I met throughout my work. My guest today is Lita Lewis, fitness influencer and philanthropist that teaches young women how to become the best version of themselves, whether skinny, or curvy frame. On this episode she will dive into her journey, overcoming obstacles, and triumphing into the woman that she is today. In this episode you’ll discover: Unraveling the fitness myth What it means to not conform to Americanized fitnessThe importance of self-loveUnderstanding that women are made up of all different shapes and sizes The evolution of Lita Lewis' fitness journeyInstagram, Facebook, Twitter @itsjessicalaineValuable resources to get you going: www.litalewis.comwww.fightforyourlife.org -Take free Health Assessment www.healthyusa.helo.life - Know the Status of Your Health.www.beautifulineveryshade.comUncover the in-person interview https://youtu.be/2OGdWBxaNBkJessica LaineHealth and Wellness Professional, ON-AIR Fitness PersonalitySponsored Athlete/Fitness Model, Health ReporterFacebook | Instagram: @itsjessicalaineBusiness 678-458-9256www.fightforyourlife.org

Episode 1: Healthy Does Not Mean Boring- With Guest Keshia Knight Pulliam

16m · Published 16 Oct 14:20
After training for the 2016 Olympics, I became feverishly passionate about nutrition and the correlation it has to my body. I dove deep into studying the chemistry of food, and as I transformed my own life, I began to transform the lives around me. Over the past eight years, I have found that the singular and most important concept to health is nutrition. While I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to change thousands of lives, the road always varies per person. What have I found people to struggle with the most? Nutrition... Clients often feel that when it’s time to eat healthly, it doesn’t last, because the foods are either undesirable or BORING. Depending on your goals, some people have found this to be very true. Well, today I am going to tap into a special episode that may be life changing for you. My guest today is Keshia Knight Pulliam, American actress, and celebrity chef. Keshia is best known for playing Rudy on the Cosby Show, but also has her own seasoning line entitled Keshia’s Kitchen. On this episode, she will dive into what it means to eat healthy but balance your nutrition to where it is not boring. Although she is not in the health care industry, I felt it most important, to take a real life testimony that many people can relate to. In this episode, you’ll discover: What it means to eat healthy and not be boring. The launch of Keshia’s Kitchen and the inspiration behind her seasoningsWhat balance means, and how to maintain balanceWhy sustainability is important Empty calories and knowing what works best for you
